First, thanks to everyone on this thread for all the advice. I wasn't as bad as I thought, but I know luck played a huge factor in the game. So on to the report~!

Armies:

Vampires (me)

Hero - DA, Summon Ghouls, Helm of Commandment
Hero - Hatred, Walking Death, BSB, Biting Blade, Flayed Hauberk
Necro - on CC, BoA (knows IoN)

14x Skeleies
10x Ghouls
1x CC w/ Necro
14x Grave Guard w/ BoB

Empire (him)

Warrior Priest (something that makes the ItP)
Warrior Priest

19x Swordsmen
24x Greatswords
10x Gunners w/ Hawkeye
5x Mounted Pistoliers (the fast cav ones)
1x Mortar

Terrain: House in the center of my deployment zone, trees on the right side of my deployment zone, hill on the right middle of table and trees on the left middle of the table.

Empire (turn 1)

His Pistoliers march onto the hill and wheel to a 45 degree angle. WP w/ SM and WP w/ GS both move up 4 inches. Shooting phase sees the Hawkeye trying to snipe my Vampire BSB, but failing to wound and the mortar targeting the Grave Guard unit, but scattering 10 inches to the left and missing.

Vampire (turn 1)

Ghouls move up 4 inches, with my Generals Skeletons right behind them (both on the right side of the house). The Grave Guard w/ BSB move up 4 inches with the CC behind them. Magic phase saw me bolster the Ghouls to 17 from 10 and raise a unit of Zombies 3 inches in front of the Pistoliers. My hopes were to use them to redirect the horsemen into a favorable position for my ghouls to charge on my next turn.

Empire (turn 2)

Pistoliers declare a charge on the Zombies and pass their fear test. WP w/ SM and WP w/ GS both move up 4 inches...again. In the shooting phase, the ghouls were just out of range for his rifles, but the hawkeye took aim and sniped a ghoul. Also the mortar misfired, making it useless for this and next turn! The pistoliers bravely hacked and chopped at the WS 6 Zombies and managed to kill 3. In response, the 2 remaining zombies dragged one horsemen down and devoured his brains before crumbling to CR. The remaining Pistoliers over ran infront of my ghouls, offering up their flank 2" away.

Vampire (turn 2)

Ghouls charge the Pistoliers, who promptly flee ... 6" and are subsequently caught and devoured by the flesh eating ghouls. Skeleies w/ General marches behind the ghouls and the Grave Guard march their 8" with the CC in tow. I successfully bolstered the unit of ghouls to 22 strong from 16 and Dansed them to a favorable flank position on the GS unit. The Grave Guard got Dansed as well, but were 2" shy of a frontal charge on the GS. No combat, but the next turn promised to be bloody!

Empire (turn 3)

The GS charged the front of the GG unit, ignoring their fear due to their brave and valiant Warrior Priest. The Swordsmen followed suit and charged the flank of the GG unit, after passing their fear test. The mortar crew was busy repairing the misfire damage and the riflemen fired at the ghouls, only killing 2. The magic phase saw 2 grave guard killed from Holy Fire, because I failed to dispel it on 1 die (stupid rolling a 1). The Swordsman champion declared a challenge from the flank, which my Vampire was all too happy to accept. The champ was promptly put down by 2 wounds from the Vampire. The Warrior priest on the flank dispatched 2 more GG, but his swordsmen were reluctant to follow suit. On the front, the Warrior priest cause 1 wound, but the resilient Guard made their saving throw. The other Greatswords managed only to kill 1 more GG. With only 4 attacks across the front, I needed some good rolls to stand a chance. Thankfully my general was 11" away and the GG were hitting on 2's. All 4 hit, 2 KB and 2 wounds, which went unsaved. CR saw the Empire win 9 to 8, but nothing crumbled b/c of the BSB. The Empire would pay for the loss of my 4 Grave Guard.

Vampire (turn 3)

My ghouls charged the flank of the Greatswords, hungry for man flesh. The corpse cart parked behind the Grave Guard for support and the General w/ her entourage moved closer to the huge melee. The winds of magic blew strong as I raise my GG unit back to full strength, cast both Miasma and Van Hel's on the combat to ensure I was hitting first, no matter the outcome. In combat, the brave GS champion stepped forward to issue a challenge, which my Grave Guard Senechal gladly accepted. With 2 swipes of his Wight Blade, the champion died instantly to a killing blow. The rest of the front grave guard cut apart 2 more foes with killing blows. The Vampire, thirsting for blood, dispatched the Empire General with all 3 of his attacks, and on the side, the grave guard killed 1 swordsmen. The ghouls managed to drag down 2 unfortunate GS with their poisoned attacks. Only 1 ghoul died in the retaliation. Both Empire units broke, with the swordsmen fleeing 9" and the GS fleeing 11". Sadly I had piled up the body count too high and only pursed 7" with the GG and 4" with the ghouls.

Empire (turn 4)

Both Swordsmen and Greatswords rallied and turn to face the unending tide of undeath running after them. The riflemen took aim and dispatched 2 skeletons and the hawkeye sniped 1 wound off the Vampire general. The mortal took aim at the Ghouls, but scattered to far to hit anything.

Vampire (turn 4)

The Grave guard charge the newly rallied Swordsmen, who held and passed their fear test. The ghouls ran forwards, faces smeared with the blood of the fallen looking greedily at the Greatswords just out of their charge range. The Corpse cart wheeled forward behind the GG and the Skeletons turned and moved closer to the ghouls. In the magic phase, the Vampire general promptly regain her lost wound, Dansed the Ghouls into the GS (who failed their fear test, so they would hit on 6s) and the corpse cart cast Miasma which was dispelled by the lone Warrior Priest. In combat, the Vampire challenged the last Warrior Priest and cut him to ribbons, licking the fresh blood off his swords. The rest of the GG cut down a few swordsmen and passed their saving throws. The swordsmen, leaderless, outnumbered and beaten ran from the undead warriors, but not far enough, and were trampled into the ground. The ghouls managed 4 poison attacks and 2 wounds, but the greatswords saved all 4 of the poisoned men, but succumbed to the raking talons of the other 2. In turn 1 ghoul died. Out numbered, and having less ranks the GS ran for their lives and got away from the ghouls, but only just.

Empire (turn 5)

The greatswords rally, teetering on the edge of the table, staring down a huge unit of ghouls on the front and a bloodthirsty vampire with his grave guard entourage on the flank. It was a grim day for the Empire. The Riflemen took another 10 shots at the skeletons, but only 2 died again. The mortar fired at the skeleton unit again, and scattered to hit the Corpse Cart! But failed to wound the undead wagon.

Vampire (turn 5)

Smelling the fear in a cornered prey the ghouls and grave guard charged the remains of the Greatswords, who manged to conquer their fear and held!! The corpse cart shambled forward, and the Skeleton unit moved closer to the melee. In the magic phase, I raised 2 skeletons from the dirt, bolstered the ghoul unit to 25 and made sure I had re-rolls for my ghouls, in case they missed. Combat was bloody and one sided, but I didn't massacre the greatswords. They did run off the table though, and at that point the Empire player conceded defeat.

All-in-all a good game and it could have gone much differently if his mortar had been a little more accurate.

Great game! Must be nice to have your dice though, sounds like you were raking up about a 50% Killing Blow rate there ;)

I was honestly stunned as to how many 6's I rolled in combat. I probably got about 6 or 7 Killing Blows and about 8 to 10 poison attacks throughout the whole game ... but I'm sure this is a one off.

<sigh> I guess I'll have to sacrifice a few virgins to the dice gods for my tournament this weekend. Anyone know where I can get them in bulk? :P

Well done on a rather good victory.

You were lucky that Mortar jammed they tend to wreck Havoc every now and then. Its always nice to see the black powder fizz, In my last campaign game my opponent lost all three warmachines in one turn to misfires.

Nice to see the GG doing well again as well!
