Ok feel free to blast broadsides at this idea but at least read it

Now i just posted in a thread asking about other races becoming vampires and made a point about gods and curses it just so happens that i was on my way to make this thread as i posted that comment because i want to ask a fluff question

now dont tell the people at GW but i dont use their world!
just the models hehe

i use a world that i made for DnD and expanded to become a place where i write stories
so
my question is what do you think of Vampiric Deamons?

not deamonic vampires
but Vampiric Deamons

like a deamon who needs to feed on the flesh and blood of mortals from another realm to sustain itself in that universe but who also has necromantic powers

the whole thing came up because im writing more stories and came up with a deamon character leading hordes of undead into the world after he was summoned by a foolish sorceror (you know the ones im on about) but i want to use a similar creature to lead my armies into battle using the system

any ideas because im just wondering if this whole idea makes sense to others or have i finaly launched myself over the edge of a very dark hole in the earth where my sanity will be tormented...

You mean a daemon with vampiric tendacnies?
Like a thirst for blood or an aversion to sunlight?

That seems quite possible

Although I'm not sure if deamons can use necromancy.

Saying that, if there can be vampires of other races than human then I'm sure there can be Vampiric Daemons.
It's your fluff, do as you wish.

I don't think it's possible in the current WH world though. That is meant strictly according how GW has planned the grand scheme of things. I can remember readining somewhere that (common) daemons are powered on the Magic of the WH world. So they aren't anything substantial, more like a fantasy in a fantasy.

Then again, I do like the idea. I think I can understand, but what does the daemon side of the creature add into the concept? The appearance? What about attributes?

So, as GoW defined, you want a Daemon that constantly thirsts for sustenance usually characterised by Vampires? Is that not what Daemons/Chaos Gods are to begin with?

Rather than flesh, they constantly hunger for the emotion that they are a manifestation of. Khorne is anger and wants more anger, if you will. If you would forgive such an awful metaphor: souls tend to be the bread upon which the butter of emotion is spread.

My goodness, that was terrible.

If its your fluff, you can really go wild and do what you want with it. Personally, given free reign I would be tempted to construct the mythos of a Daemon that was a rampant soul-devourer. I would write it as a tragic feedback system: it devours souls to gain more power, and yet it needs more souls to remain 'alive' to support such power. This would also helpfully explain the Daemon's penchant for necromancy, as the daemon could instil small portions of collected souls within corporeal shells. The investment of diffusing its power amongst its followers would ultimately garner the collection of yet more souls in the long run.

I guess I just like Galactus too much.

well Inspector i think you may be on to something

i suppose since the basic idea seems to be agreeing with others it might be worth it to take this onto character creation now

also this wont be a race of deamons just a one off, but if someone else wants to use the idea they can go ahead, its not like i copyright this stuff...

It is funny you should be writing about this, I am writing a story at the moment where a being - not quite a demon but something otherworldly - is born into the real world. It must feed off the rot and decay of the living and their surroundings, needing this environment to survive. I guess in a way, this is similar to your concept, except while your demon is in a fantasy setting, and need blood and flesh, mine is in a real-world setting, and requires death and decay.

I guess what I'm trying to say is go for it; it's your fluff/story/background, do with it as you want!

If you take into account the events that occured during the Storm of Chaos events then Daemonic Necromancy is entirely possible as Volkmar the Grim was brought back from beyond the grave by Belakor, the Dark Master. This obviously leads a mark of some description as Volkmar was described as being tainted afterwards.

In my opinion it is reasonable to hypothesise that Necromancy is a bastardised form of some greater Chaotic magic as the basis for it was Daemons that Nagash interrogated. The necromancy we know was born as a hybrid from this magic and became the 'Lore of Nagash' so to speak. Now, Daemonic magic is probably a lot more 'pure' than anything that mortal men can do as it is made by creatures of magic i.e the daemons themselves. With this in mind it is not a great leap of logic to assume that a daemon could quite feasibly do something necromantic to further their own ends, going so far as to raise a dead operative, for example.

Daemonic rituals require many stringent reagents for them to work. Blood being a key component of most of the rituals surrounding Khorne. It is not impossible to then presume that a daemon of Khorne would need the blood for the Blood Gods favour and to further their own ends. Inversely, Slaanesh or Tzeentch could quite easily have their minions drinking blood because they know it will annoy Khorne immensely and some people may get some sort of perverted pleasure from the ingestion of blood.

The combination of the two is another progression of the above ideas. This makes it entirely feasible as an idea but one that would be sighed at due to the obvious stem of the idea being the vampires, something Warhammer has an abundance of.

Hope that helps.

I know you said that you play Warhammer and DnD in the same setting, and that reminded me that in DnD they have a Demon Lord, Orckus, I believe his title is Lord of the Undead. He is a Demon Tyrant that summons swarms of undead. Now he doesn't have to drink blood or some such to sustain himself, but it isn't such a large step from a demon practacing necromancy to a demon practicing necromancy needing sustinance and having weaknesses much like a vampire.

Go for it. Sometime 'off the wall' characters are what you need to spice things up whether it is Warhammer, DnD or whatever else.

I can't remember what it's called, but in the recent Forgotten Realms series of books (I believe it starts with the title "The Haunted"), there is exactly what you mention - a Vampiric demon, who actually drains the blood of other demons for his sustenance (and humans, though he doesn't like it). If Forgotten Realms isn't easily applicable to D&D, I don't know what is. So I'd say that there is in fact a very good precedent for it.

In the fluff of the Warhammer world I would say no, as a part of becoming a vampire means removing your soul from chaos, and for some reason I can't see a daemon surviving well with that addendum. I can see a daemonic necromancer (as Nagashes necromancy draws heavily from Dark Elven dark magic - which draws heavily on the unrefined winds of magic), but I don't believe a vampiric daemon would work.
