So, for Christmas I thought we could run an Chrismassy theme VAU for a bit of fun :vampire3:

VAU's have always been very popular on CN, so why not have a giggle over the festive period.

With this VAU some of the rules are still in design a little, notably I am thinking of speeding it up a little. So instead of one night per week, we may have two for example. This is because I know some get tired of playing as it goes on longer, plus it would be nice to keep to the festive period.

Therefore I will post up firm rules shortly, but in the meantime here are the details of what is definite, and how to signup.

Signup will be open for the next few weeks at least, with a definite start date advised towards the back end of November.

No doubts there are a few of you that are saying “Wait a minute, what the hell is Vampire’s Amongst Us?” Well for those of you who don’t know, here is how I run it:

Game Description

There will be a group of players in a location. However unknown to everyone, some of the people will actually be vampires.

During the day (in game) you will discuss in character (like a roleplay), speaking to other members, reading their responses, trying to figure out who is actually a vampire. A key point is that you can only post what other characters can see, unlike other RP's you cannot post any internal monologue etc.

The vampires will of course be trying to waylay suspicion, make others look suspicious. However in this VAU not all the vampires will be working together, nor will they all be aware who are vampires or humans.

A day role play wise will actually be [to be confirmed] days in real life, to give time for posting etc.

The idea of the discussion is to get the point where you vote for someone to die, on the basis you think they are a vampire. You can abstain if you wish but maybe that's not a good idea considering what happens at night.....

At the end of the day, the person who has the most votes against them, as long as there are a minimum of two votes cast, will be executed. Hopefully it will be a vampire.....

At night the vampires will kill one person. They do this by PM'ing me at any point from when the previous day starts up until the end of the night. They can choose anyone they like, and again when the discovery is made the next morning (wrote up by me), their true nature will be revealed. If there are more than one group of vampires, they will all PM me, and I will take it in turn amongst the groups, and yes a vampire could end up killing another vampire.

The night period lasts for [to be confirmed] days in real life.

The game carries on like this until it reaches a point where all the vampires are killed, or one single vampire group is numerous enough that they cannot be outvoted.

So the idea of the game is to try and survive whilst not knowing who everyone else is!

Rules
Statuses will be assigned via PM, if you have not received a PM from my by the time the game starts, then you are a normal human.
You cannot reveal who you are to another other member via posting or via PM, with the exception of vampires who are in the same group who may PM each other. Anyone spoiling the game in this fashion will be seen to be breaking forum rules and treated accordingly.
Refrain from posting your characters thoughts – this is not a story. You should only post what other characters can actually see / hear / feel etc.

Statuses

The Host
Is me. Does not take an active part in the game apart from narration or to stir things up. Does not vote at all, except when the Host’s Ear power is used.

Vampire
The bad guys. A number of players will be these, based in the total number of players. They can discuss via PM if in the same group, and can choose to kill any one character (except the host) during the night. They must nominate one vampire player to be the killer for that night. Vampires may be given hidden powers…..however they will also be given a tell, something small that if other players are reading carefully may catch them out.

Human
The food. Most players will be these. They can be of any description. They have no powers except the ability to vote for someone to die at the ends of the day.

The Lovers
Two random players will be chosen to be these, possibly even a human and a vampire. They must try and keep each other from being voted for death / or killed if a vampire (though they cannot tell the other vampires), whilst the other still lives, however they cannot say they are lovers, nor can they discuss via PM.

The Witch Hunter
One human will be chosen to be the Witch Hunter, with the experience to find one of the dead. Once per night he can choose to investigate a player, by PM'ing me, and must state beforehand whether he wishes to attempt to kill his target.
If he decides not to he will be advised if his target is a vampire, but no further action can be taken. He may then use this to vote the next day, and try and convince others, however he cannot state how he came by this knowledge.
If he decides to take the risk the target player is automatically killed. If it was a vampire the Witch Hunter has chosen well. If it is a human however the Witch Hunter is overcome with remorse and may not use his abilities any further in this game.

Guardian Angel
This character has a touch of the divine, and they have taken up the roll to protect others. At any point before the night ends (before I have written up the death), they can choose to protect someone. They do this by PM'ing me the name of the person they protect. If they successfully chose the same person as the vampires, that person is saved from death. The vampire is also revealed to the Guardian Angel. He may then use this to vote the next day, and try and convince others, however he cannot state how he came by this knowledge. However should they be targeted they cannot save themselves.

Unwilling Minion
This character is being blackmailed by the vampires to do their will, though he does not know who is dark masters really area.
All the vampires will be told who is this character, however they cannot reveal this to anyone else. At any point during the day discussion they may choose to make the Minion accuse another player and cast a vote against him. This is done by PM'ing me who will advise the player. That vote then cannot be changed for that day, nor can the Minion do anything to show he acted against his will.
As there are groups of different vampires, it is first come first serve. Therefore the vampires will have to be careful not to let another use the minion, but also not use him in waste.
Once used the Unwilling Minion stands up for himself and cannot be used again.

The Host's Ear
This character has secret connections to the host, and thus is trusted. He can if needs be call on his lords favour if the need arises.
Once per game the player can PM me and ask for the Host to add his vote, against a player of his choosing. Such is the Host's influence his vote counts as two votes.

Anyone wishing to join should post a small bio, as per this example from the last VAU:

1. Disciple of Nagash (Host)
Name: Anita Jacqueouff
Age: 28
Description: A masked figure, this lady has a very alluring and curvaceous figure revealing pale skin. Having invited all of you to her masked ball, it seems to intends to throw a hell of a party....

You can of course post more than that if you wish. Just note that no weapons will be permitted xd

So, hope to have a lot of you join and have some fun!

Could we add an extra role?

Santa
This character may consult their naughty list in the night-phase. On a D6 roll of a 6, the naughty list has brought them the name of a vampire; any other result is just somebody doing something they ought not to in their bedroom... however the list will discriminate vampires and naughty humans, it will just provide a name.

Santa may choose to act on their naughty list by leaving a trap-present. However, if they should leave a present and the unlucky naughty individual not be a vampire, they lose this status for the game as they themselves are placed on the naughty list and can never read it again.

EDIT: In addition, will the question of private discussions/interactions be addressed in this VAU?

Name: Esteban Buenco
Age: 49
Description: This man, obviously of Estalian descent, wears rich clothes which are obviously expensive but not ostentatious; a study in understated taste. He is overweight and constantly dabs at his brow with a silken handkerchief. His face is round and and red, with sagging jowls - his clothes might not be ostentatious, but it's obvious his appetites are (as the two chins he boasts can testify). His jet-black hair is cut relatively short, and he has a wooden cane which is carved with Estalian characters - most often this is propped up against his chair or the table he is eating at. Very rarely is he seen without either food or a drink in one of his hands.

Esteban has an accent to his voice which speaks of his Estalian heritage, but he speaks flawless Reikspiel.

I will add the description tomorrow when I am in my laptop!

EDIT: or on my laptop, even

Hell yeah!

Name : Gerhard Moench
Age : 25
Description : Of average height and build, Gerhard's most distinguishing characteristic is his flame red hair of mid length cut. He is attired in the latest fashion, his clothes individually tailored and of the finest materials. He is amiable and light hearted in nature, this is probably due to his life of privilege and comfort.

Can I just add that personally I like the VAU as it is without any changes to the rules. They only time I feel that it could do with speeding up is towards the end when the characters and number of posts drop. Just my two penneth!

Name: Nicoletto Viggiani de Remas
Age: Twenty-Nine
Description: A somewhat handsome man with pale skin, long dark hair and a lean physique he is the "Famous" Sellsword Captain and has come to the party dressed in dazzling bright clothing of the latest fashions, he wears a Tilean Masquerade Mask of glittering green and gold. He walks with a shining silver cane in hand and a mocking grin on his face.

Name: Bercilak Bredbeddle
Age: 50 (but could perhaps be older)
Description: A tall, leviathan of a man. A famed Knight in the Breton realms and a bit of an enigma. He has a jovial countenance, and a round bearded face with blushed cheeks and a red nose. He likes good food, good beer, good music, and the odd spot of gambling. He has come to the party dressed in the finest green robes given the festive season.

Sorry I haven't added the description yet; working took more out of me than I thought it would! Will do this tonight

Name: Dr. Yana Bumbleton

Age: 72

Description: Yana is an old man, his face wrinkled by many a long winter and many a glorious summer. He has what can only be described as a "kindly" face, his wrinkles creaking into a knowing smile as he peers out through a pair of timberwood spectacles. He has pearly-white hair, which still has fairly good coverage, and a glorious white, bushy moustache. Yana was a doctor by profession, but has long since retired to walks in the countryside and soaking his old bones in the warmth of a logfire since a nasty back injury left his hands too shaky to safely perform surgery. Yana wears a smart black tailcoat over his formal grey suit, replete with bright red bow-tie. A golden-chained pocket-watch can just be spied hanging from his waistcoat pocket, and he stands with a polished mahogany cane to help with walking about. Since his retirement, Yana took to studying old scientific journals, and can occasionally be seen pondering some hypothetical quandary, brow furrowed, and will become quite unreachable until he either resolves the issue or gives up entirely.

Also, what did people think to adding Santa...? Not an overwhelmingly positive response so far I must admit. :clown:

Yay! My second VAU!

Name: Sir Geoffrey Genet

Age: 81

Description: Genet was, one might judge, one of the lucky minor, obscure knights who, despite their lack of ability to rise high through the ranks, did not die in battle, but slowly became more and more inactive until his eventual retirement. He now lives cheerfully, though poorly: he seems to own little, being not much more than a hedge knight (he seems not to be of noble birth). He always possesses a rueful grin and will happily launch into a boastful anecdote of his past heroics and victories (the truth of them is debatable, based on the fact that no citisen of the Empire has so far been able to hold off Archaon with one hand behind his back) though this boasting never becomes truly unpleasant, only frustratingly boring, as Genet seems to have learnt over the years that too tall a tale can end with a test of his mettle, which might not end well for an apparently harmless old fool. Genet posses a shrewd intellect beneath his boastful nature and apparently holds certain morals (of the right compass) very strongly, judged by his arguments and actions. Geoffrey is not very skilled with a blade, though basic ability (and a little more personal skill) has not quite left him even in the apparent dusk of his life. He wears the tattered robes of past formal meetings with other knights, fine but not very expensive and worn (though not in a bad way) with age.

Darvy! I love the Santa idea, it's a nice little touch that I think would be great in this VAU.

Another VAU! Hopefully I last longer than my last two characters this time...

Name: Arden, Son of Mann, Daughter of Elvii, Victim of Frost

Age: 50

Description: A cursed individual, Arden has signs of both elven and human heritage. He/she swaps gender nightly and whenever she/he feels intense emotion, though besides the anatomical differences he/she looks the same. He wears a toga and she wears a dress of magically preserved autumn leaves. She/he wields a bladed staff the length of his/her arm.

So this VAU will be kicking off shortly.....though we seem to be short of players, normally we have many more. I'll sent out a notification, see if anyone else is interested.

Rufus the Torched
Age: 37
Appearance: A gangly man standing around 5'10" with a untidy shock of red hair and a unkept redbeard.
Background: Rufus is a bright wizard though due to his odd nature he has never really risen to be a very good one. More often then not he will set the wrong thing ablaze. The long red robes of his order have a multitude of burnt holes in them and the sleeves are dusted in ash.

I may put my name down for this, but I've never done anything like it before...

So, either watch this space, or this is only here so I can subscribe... :P We'll see.

Name: Sophie Zimmermann

Age: 20

Description: A young woman with bob-cut, curly brown hair and brown eyes; Sophie is a devout follower of Sigmah and his teachings. She stands at 5’, a very short gal but very nimble and is usually seen in her green dress and cerulean shoes. Sophie carries no weapons other than her golden twin-tailed comet pendant to ward off the unholy. Hailing from the province of Nuln, Sophie was born and raised there. There she frequented at the church for sermons and just about every other religious thing they offered. Of course, things are always fuzzy in relation to religious scripts, certain lifestyles could always be loopholed…

Emil Liskorov

Age Late 40's

Emil is partial owner and sole heir to the famed Liskorov Meats. With carts on busy corners all throughout the streets, he both supplies tasty treats to the working class, and a steady stream of information to anyone connected enough for the right price. "Old Money" many say, but Emil wasn't given his fortune on a silver spoon at all. He's worked hard from the time of his youth and continues to do so. He takes pride in his charcuterie skills and nose for good business decisions, but his knack for cloak and daggery have his name whispered on tongues of those who could care less for his sausages. The socially ambitious Emil dresses very simply. One would have to look carefully at his garb to see that the plain designs are tailored to perfection. His long mustache is a necessary break between his squarish jaw and red, clumpy nose. His eyes cast a trustworthy and affirmatory glance through thick spectacles. His weathered, patchy skin does not belie his age. He can be seen anywhere, rubbing elbows with nobles at a ball or drunk as a skunk at the seediest of taverns. He seems to fit perfectly in either.

Harrison Jonasberg
Age: 40 something
Descended from wealthy merchant families of Marienburg. His grandfather discovered his initial wealth in mordhiem before settling down with his half elven grandmother and establishing Jonasberg trade emporiums along the western coast. Growing bored with the life of a merchant, Harrison enlisted with the Imperial navy. After spending time at sea, his ship was assaulted by druchii pirates. Left for dead, he joined a roving mercenary company and spent time serving in the wars of the Border Princes. Known for his piercing, steely gaze. Harrison's worn features and distant gaze seem to look off to the horizon, his mind on another place and time. He is a bit weathered, his better days behind him but a hardened veteran none the less.

Player: con-fusion

Name: Arturo Bombasto

Description: Bombasto is a mountain of a man with gold and wit to spread around at will. Shaped like a taproom wrestler who long ago had let muscle lapse into an indeterminate bulk of rolling fat, his appitites are as legendary as they are indescriminate. Night after night, Bombasto indulges in rich food, drink, women, and violence with a boisterous gusto that makes him the life of any party. While in his cups, he has drunkenly claimed to be a renowned wizard of the Grey College, a spymaster for at least a dozen nations, and the hero of a hundred wars. Inexplicably popular in places both high and low, he is commonly seen feasting with the wealthy and driving the economy of dive bars and whorehouses, all too often over the course of a single night. Unconscious, hungover, or just plain dead to the world, Bombasto is never seen during the light of day. But, that is to be expected with his lifestyle.

I guess I'll try this out. Looks interesting.

Jean-Claude Narcisse
Age: 45
Description: Jean-Claude is a tailor and fashion designer for the upper crust of society. His prices are outrageous and thus it is a statement of power and influence to be seen in one of his outfits. He dresses in a aubergine crushed velvet suit accented with a golden pocketwatch, and blood red rose upon his lapel. He is arrogant and self important to all except his societal betters, where he is fawning and obsequious.
