Hey guys,

I've been playing a game vs skaven with the abomitation (regen 4+). It was really hard for me cause I had no flaming attacks on my list and he killed too much.

I am wondering what about the flaming attacks on VC. Just hexwraiths with the soulthing, staff (2d6 S4 flaming attacks) and scabscratch?

If there is something else I don't see it.

Thanks!

You can take the flaming banner from the main rulebook.
A Vampire could take Forbidden Lore, then take Lore of Fire (don't think that's a great idea though).

Could try the banner but I am afraid 1k army with Vampire with lore of fire it is not posible, or difficult.

Thank you!

No worries. Lore of Fire is only S4 anyway so may not do much against the HPA even if you did take it. I might be mistaken, but isn't there also a weapon in the main rulebook which grants flaming attacks? I may be misremembering, don't have the book with me.
Skaven are absolutely EVIL at 1000 points - good luck! (They're horrendous at other points levels too, but especially so at lower points levels because they can get all the usual toys and STILL outhorde you due to those blasted Slaves. I have a Skaven army but of late have started to feel quite bad about how unfaie they seem).

Yeah the item with flaming attacks is the scabscrath or whatever. But it is too expensive for 1k points and you have to take a vampire lord if you want the sword.

Why not just use the tried and true VC method and just zombie it? If you can tie it down with zombies, then in theory you have a huge advantage everywhere else. There's also the (name eludes me) ruby ring I think that casts a fireball. Might not work great but if you get a hit the HPA can't regen, then just pile on it for a round and see what happens.

In 1k pts you really don't have any units to throw away even zombies. Tarpitting is not going to work at 1k. Also if you cause flaming damage it only negates his regen until the end of the phase not until the end of the turn. This being established, flaming banner seems to be the way to get the most flaming attacks for the least amount of points.

Tarpitting a HPA doesn't work at any points level. It could dish out 20 S6 hits without batting an eyelid, many of them auto hitting. In the turn it charges, it inflicts D6 impact hits, D6 thunderstomp, and I believe one of its random attacks also inflicts 2D6 or 3D6 more auto hits. It's going to be munching through 20-30 Zombies every round of combat - so 40-60 per game turn!!!

I can't tell from the GW site entry if it has magic attacks, if not you could have a spirit hosts or cairn wraith tie it down. I never played vs Skaven since after 5th ed.

YEah that's what I am thinking, using one spirit host cause you can not tarpit it successfully, it can kill more than half of a 50 zombies unit in one round :(

The hellpit is initiative 4, honestly I feel bad fielding my skaven sometimes! If I were to face on with my vamps, I'd say the best remedy would be a terrorgheist scream.

I've been playing against skaven at 1500pt, and I'm successfully taking care of his hell pit with my terrorghiest. Not sure how much shooting your opponent has and I've been fairly lucky, knocking off 4 wounds on average with the death shriek.

What leadership is this beast? EDIT okay I found out on the GW site. What sort of points does this thing cost? It seems unbelievably good. Give it me eqivalent skellies or something so we don't mess with IP issues.

Thanks =)

I'm watching this thread with interest because tbh the hellpit just seems totally OP and I'd like to know how to take the mother on.

What about a unit of black knights (lances an the whole shiboodle) with flaming BSB? Beyond that the only other obvious choice is hexwraiths, but really what skaven player wont take the magical attacks upg after this happens once (or even if they just know they'll be taking on VCs)...

Don't forget that even after it has died, it can come back! I saw a battle report where he killed it twice and it came back and was on the field at the end of the game after wiping out the unit that killed it twice.

It's 47 skellies. 50 with magic attacks and 6+ MR. It is without a doubt op for it's cost. And I play skaven too so that's an opinion from both sides of the table. However I'm pretty sure the 'it's alive' rule only works once per game and even then it's negated after a single flaming wound at any point. Also your awarded the vp's when you kill it even if it does resurrect. Small comfort if your opponent gets a lucky roll and revives it to full wounds!

That thing is a nightmare for 200 some odd points, i often fight against skaven and find no problems with anthing but the HPA (and the odd doomrocket wiping out an entire block of units)

How about broadsiding it with hexwraiths? S5, flaming attacks?

Sure, sure, skaven have plenty of magical attacks, but still... I'm struggling to see how we answer this thing.

Except purple sun is an I test which they have a 2/3 chance of passing. Thats if you even get the spell, not to mention a miscast could cost you more than you gain. Ive never yet seen magic be particularly effective against the hpa from either side of the table. I'd stick with hexwraiths or a terrorgheist, as I think a unit of black knights would be seriously hurt before they even get to strike. In a 1k game the hellpit will be the only rare, so no warp cannons to worry about.
Edit- now I think about it. This could be a job for Konrad! Lots of attacks, d3 wounds and red fury could do the trick.

Terrorgheist was what I thank would be the best . So I engaged him into close combat with the hellpit and my terrorgheist died in 1 round. He strike first with the 1d3 wounds attack = 3 wounds. My scream did nothing due to the fact I roll a 4 on 2d6 minus the 3 wounds on my beast. No wounds from the stomp or regular attacks plus 1 more wounds from the hellpit stomp.

It was something really annoying...

You know the scream happens in the shooting phase right? So from what I can see, you wouldn't have taken any wounds yet and caused three yourself. Also they wouldn't get a stomp on each other. Stomps only affect infantry, swarms and warbeasts.
