I dont know for sure and i might be wrong but im pretty sure ive read somewhere that a magical vortex somewhat counts as impassable terrain?
My memory has that it was explained that no unit would willingly/by choice move into/through a magical vortex. this would prohibit moving, charging, marching if that would bring your unit into contact with the vortex.
Now im looking at brb and faq for any evidence but cant seem to find it.
Typing vortex in the threadsearch also came up unanswered.

Idd :-D

next q:
if an o&g unit fails animosity and is subsequently forced to charge the closest unit. is he forced to move through the vortex? if that closest unit is behind the vortex?

Yea thats what i thought.
Id say anything that isnt on purpose and forces a unit to move into vortexcontact is legal:
Failed stupidity, flyers that fail chargedistance, animosity spring to mind.

At least i think a flyer can charge over a vortex? In case it then fails to reach its target and moves into the vortex than that is what happens.

Obviously the unit gwtting in the vortez would take the full damage consequences inherent to the particular vortex. that is faq'd and i very logical and not surprising :-)

so that would be prohibited since you cannot do that voluntarily.
Only our frenzied vargheists have to charge if you fail to restrain, which would crash them into/through a vortex

A flying model is still affected by a vortex if they move over it, especially if they charge

I don't think this is correct. Can you point to any rules/FAQ's that would support this? You are a flier. You fly over other units, all types of terrains, fanatics and such. So why can't you fly over a vortex?

And any unit forced to move thru a votex pops out the other side and stops 1" away and stops movement.

You could simply imagine (really is the case actually) that a vortex looks like something of a tornado. So unless youre able to fly into stratosphere or higher, that vortex spans the entire area between ground and sky.
A vortex is summoned from the heavens

Sorry to disagree but there is nothing in the rules saying anything about vortexes going to the high heavens/stratosphere. Sounds more like an opinion. Not anything based on any rules.

All templates work in a 2 dimensional space, which means that it doesn't matter if you're OVER it or UNDER it. The rules for flying doesn't not specify that it allows you to fly over area zones created by spells. At least this is my reasoning.

And there are no rules that say fliers can't fly over either and treat it like any other impassable terrain. So all we are left with is peoples opinions. And another of GW's wonderful world of rule snafu's.....

Umm no. As nothing is said about it in the flying rules we are left with the default rules. Why would we treat it like any kind of terrain?
The reason you can fly over terrain and units with a fly move is that it specifically says you can in the rules, but as templates or vortexes are not mentioned you can't.
