Hi,

I'm wondering how important the WYSIWG "rule" is in Warhammer. From my past experience in 40k it seemed quite strict, but for fantasy tournaments and stuff how important is it to show everything?

I ask because I'm waiting for my mantic revenants to arrive to use as my grave guard. On my list they are equipped with great weapons, but the revenants only seem to have the sword and shield option. I'd rather not get into converting at the moment because that means buying loads of bits (I have none) so if I just tell my opponent it should be okay, right?

Unnoficial tournaments, obviously xD

Generally speaking, just telling your opponent what your troops are armed with is fine. I find it a good rule of thumb if you don't want to model the models too extensively and weapon swaps such as what you would need to do with those Mantic models to represent all possible options on a model - you could have Great Weapons strapped to the model's backs for example. Obviously you should still point it out to your opponent, but it helps remind people that the models are armed with something different. It also retains the option of running them with shields should you want to!

Be sure to record it on paper or something what unit's have what weapons. Otherwise, if you have say several units of guys with (modelled) swords and shields, but playing two units differents, it could result in several in game arguments following along the "NO, this unit had the great weapons, hence why I sent them to attack", etc etc

What they do in my neck of the woods is the first two ranks need to be the correct models with the back models not needing to be.

My suggestion is get ahold of your local crowd and ask what there thoughts are.

In freindly games all one needs to do is say this counts as. So it is possible unoffical tourements would be the same.

I've found in casual games people are a lot more relaxed. If I want to try giving my Skeletons spears, for example, as long as I tell them before that they have spears they're usually OK with it. If you have two units of skeletons, but only one has spears... than a way to clearly distinguish them (either different color scheme (IE: red vs blue shields) or a note) might be asked.

If I'm mixing in a few skeletons with zombies, but it clear that it is a zombie unit... they're often OK with that too.

Basically as long as it is clear what the unit is (IE: Ghouls, skeletons, zombies, undead midgets on unicycles, etc, etc) , people are fine. The equipment might be a bit off (IE: still need to glue on shields) and they won't mind if you make it clear.

In tournaments, people are bit pickier. If not a GW tournament, people can be more relaxed sometimes. A lot of them around here can be. When in doubt ask the organizer. Ultimately as long as they know it's grave guard they might be cool with it.

I'm fine with people using counts as-equipment or even models as long as it doesn't get too ridiculous like using paper cups and saying they are fell bats. For tournaments folks can be pickier so I'd check with them in advance and as for GW tournaments well...I think they are sometimes taking it too far to be honest.

Hmm, thanks guys. I guess I'll just see what the head of the local club says, it's pretty laid back so it should be fine.

Don't think I'll be going near a GW with my army, it's 95% mantic!

Thanks guys, this board is really newb-friendly.
