Back to the skaven issue.

I have a question this time. The warp lightening cannon says that for each unsaved wound it does D6 wounds.

Do the D6 wound apply to each model or to each unit.

In other words. If the Warp lightening cannon passes through a unit of skellies killing one skellie in 8 rows of five, does that mean that 8 X D6 or just 8 skellies as each model only has one wound.

Conversely, if the WLC shot passes through a Crypt horror unit, of 3 rows of three does each unsaved wound cause D6 wounds to each model, 1(3*D6) or D6 wounds applied to the unit, 3(1*D6)?

I don't think my skaven opponent has even considered this implication and I just noticed it in his book. Until now he has treated the WLC as a cannon, doing D6 wound / model taking away regen to my crypt horrors and killing one skellie / rank.

Is he doing it right or can he potentially do 8X6 wounds to my big block of skellies simply by shooting through it with the wLC?

D6 or even d3 wounds is only done on multi wound models.

So he would only kill 8 skeles.

Crypty question i dont have book to hand as ive never came across that scenario as i mainly fight woc so never had to check it :(

If its shot into the unit of skellies it would only remove 8 models as skeletons dont have multiple wounds.

If its shot into a unit a crypt horrors you will have to resolve every model hit individually, so the process for crypt horrors in a 3x3 would be:
roll to wound
Regen save
if regen save is failed roll for d6 wounds
if roll is 2 or less cannon shot stops as it doesnt carry on through monstrous infantry
otherwise rinse and repeat

Son of a Gun!!! I am glad I bought the Skaven Armybook yesterday now. Until now I just took my opponent at his word that the WLC had flaming attacks. Now I see what he was calling flaming are only magical and my Crypt Horrors WOULD get their regen.

I can already predict the discussion Thursday night.

Tintip has the right of it. Doomwheel shots are reconciled the same way, which is why any skaven general worth his salt will drive it straight at whatever multiwound models you've got.

Also, were you implying the wlc ignores/negates regen? Wlc shots are not flamming, so regen happens as normal.

Also, the skaven book has about two billion pages of faq/errata, so your next step is printing those and familiarizing. It's a pain, believe me. Skaven are my second army.

Ok lets use the BK BUS as an example.

10 Black Knights (*1 wound), 1 Master Necromancer in Second rank (*3 wound) with Iron curse Icon and Magic Resistance (3) and , 1 Baby Vamp (*2 wounds) / 5+WS, 1 Wight King Standard Bearer(*3 wounds)/4+WS and 1 VL (*3 wounds)/4+ WS.

In this scenario I want to say that the final bounce landed right in the middle of my BK bus, touching all 14 models under the template. Further by some fluke roll of the dice all 14 wound.

1. The Ten black knights take a 6+ WS (iron curse Icon), MN, VL, WK, Baby Vamp all take an appropriate WS or suffer D6 wound each?

2. Ten black knights take a 3+ WS (iron curse + MR3), while the characters take an appropriate WS +MR3 or suffer D6 wounds each?

3. Can Each Character take a LOS before the unit takes any wounds? This is important. If I resolve the characters LOS first I can transfer the wound to a Rank and File Black Knight. If I have to take it against Rank and File first I could potentially not have a model in the unit to pass a LOS roll onto.

4. Prior to the "Explosion of the shot" the template passed through the VL. Does the VL need to take two LOS / WS (one for the line of the shot and one for the "explosion"?) or just one total?

First Magic resistance is only usefull against spells, it will offer no benefit against the WLC

Second, this is the important rule with the shot from the WLC
"All models touched by the template or in the path of
the Warp Lightning from where it hits the ground to
where it explodes suffer a hit at the Strength rolled."

so a model can only be hit once by this attack, whether from the shot or the template.

Third LOS are made once the model is hit, before wounds, as long as there is 5 or more R&F

so assuming every model in your unit is hit, and assuming you have full command, have your WK, MN, VL, VH and champ all make their LOS.

then resolve to wound rolls

then all your R&F will have a 6++ from the iron curse icon, any chars that failed their LOS would have their own ward to take, and any of those that failed would take d6 wounds

Makes perfect sense. I printed a copy of this discussion to help bolster my argument which I know is coming Thursday.

Monstrous Infantry will not stop the WLC as they do a cannonball, though.

Just curious how you figure that as its states it fires the same as a cannon from the BRB "The Warp Lightning Cannon is a move or fire weapon
that fires in the same way as a cannon"

the small template will still go off but MI will stop the shot if they dont die

the rule also says to place the small template at the furthest range.
If the shot from the cannon doesnt kill a MI the shot stop per the rules for cannon shots, and that is where the small template would be placed

"It fires the same way as a cannon" sets up the mechanics for rolling artillery die, etc...
The rules for WLC state specifically that all models in line including template are "hit".
You then roll to wound, with each unsaved hit causing d6 wounds.
Nothing stops WLC.

The rule is
"If a misfire is the result of the initial roll of the artillery
dice, roll on the Warp Lightning Misfire chart below.
The second dice roll determines how far the warp
lightning ‘bounces’
and the Strength of the warp
lightning shot"

"All models touched by the template or in the path of
the Warp Lightning from where it hits the ground to
where it explodes
suffer a hit at the Strength rolled"

Since it is fired like a cannon the shots are resolved like a cannon you have to resolve against every MI model individually, it the first model stops the shot that is where the shot explodes. nothing in the rules say the bounce automatically goes through every model

Gotta agree with the bat here. Youre ignoring a crucial part of the ruling where they talk about the path of the shot. They wouldn't need to specify "the path" if it was a normal cannonball because it would explode where it was stopped. At least that's how I see it
