Err, one thing we haven't almost ever talked about is winged nightmares. They are still available or not? what are their stats?

As far as the rumors are telling the Winged Nightmare will now be called Abyssal Terror and will have a few stats lowered, but will be cheaper.

The nightmare is just a mean skeletal horse with ST4. The winged nightmare is just one of those with wings. The Abyyssal Terror doesn't even have a decent picture of what it's supposed to look like, much less a miniature, but the stats are pretty good on it.

I found this model, which could make a good winged nightmare.

Also, I havn't seen anything about winged nightmares beyond that you can take them. I havn't seen anything saying how you take them, or anything. Anyone with the new armybook want to tell? I don't want points, I was just wondering if its an upgrade to the nightmare or something you can buy base or what.

You can't have any Winged Nightmare. Its name has changed to Abyssal Terror, it's cheaper but it lost the impaling charge. Otherwise pretty much unchanged.

Winged Nightmare and Abyssal Terror are two different entries.

Yes, in that the Winged Nightmare is an entry in the 6th edition rulebook that doesn't exist in 7th edition, and the Abyssal Terror is an entry in the 7th edition rulebook that doesn't exist in 6th edition. I'm sure you must have some kind of point however?

There are two flying mounts now. One is called the abyssal terror, the other is the flying nightmare, also known as the helsteed.

Darci, that is a great helsteed model! Looks better than the dark pegasus from the DE army. Although, you may want to wait until the DE book comes out, because there may be a new release of the pegasus then, and it may rock. But maybe not...

I thought there were THREE flying mounts:

Hellsteed (basically a nightmare with wings)

Abysmal Terror

Zombie Dragon

And no one has answered the real question:

CAN HEROE'S TAKE THE HELLSTEED?

I'm planning to use this model as a hellsteed

And this one for an abysmal terror

All vampires, be they lords or heroes(not sure on special characters though), can take the hellsteed.

I'm in the process of building a winged nightmare; just ordered some bits for it. Can I get a second opinion on N.I.B.'s statement that the Winged Nightmare has been changed to Abyssal Terror and besides losing the impaling charge is fairly unchanged? I don't want to go through all this work for a model I won't use...

haha 'sources'. The shady side of warhammer that goes on right under our noses that everyone wants to pretend isn't there. Meetings in dark alleys, no names given, hand off of money, and information is given :)

Good work "Voltaire" if that is your real name. Any relation to Deep Throat?

Really, thanks. I think the inside sources is kind of funny.

The Abyssal Terror is a fair bit cheaper than the current Winged Nightmare, and with the way things come together in the new book, it can still be a perfectly viable choice.
