So, I found a great, really simple way online to make lava bases, that looks really good. I would really like to base an army this way, but I am stuck on what army to base that way.

I have considered maybe my daemons of chaos, but I don't feel it will suit them because they are nurgle daemons (lava bases is more a khorne thing)

I am planning on collecting Warriors of Chaos some time soon... perhaps these would be the best candidate? I would go for Chaos Dwarves but that would be very expensive.

Anyone have any ideas of which armies Lava Bases would suit best?

Oh, if anyone is interested- the trick I found is as follows-
Step 1- Paint the base a mixture of reds/yellows/oranges
Step 2- Paint over the entire base with Agrellan Cracked Earth (the citadel effect paint)
Step 3- Varnish the base to improve durability of the cracked earth
Step 4- Paint the cracked earth (but not the lava that shows through) Abaddon Black

If fantasy it's only really suit khornate armies so khornate demons or maybe khorne alligned warriors of chaos.I'm not sure if there's anywhere in the old world ( not including realm of chaos) where the ground would be like this naturally except maybe the chaos dwarf homeland .you could say the earth is Like that from khornate influence or ritual etc if using warriors . 40k however would be fair game as lava planets are plentyfbull

you could also swap the lava effect for mud or ice to get a similiar effect for snow or swamp bases which could fit easier into an army

You could do Vampire Counts with a burning dead theme: blackened and crisped zombies, greenstuffed flames on skeletons, etc.
Ogres seems like a good fit. Lizardmen could work well too, on account of salamanders and the association between volcanoes and tropical islands. Any of the O&G, but particularly forest goblins and savage orcs, for the same reasons to my mind.

It had never occurred to me that you could substitute blue colours to make the cracked earth look like cracked ice.... I will have to remember that!

I think I will do the lava bases for my tyranids, as I am painting them to look like the concept art for the zerg in starcraft 2- the zerg homeworld char is a volcanic lava planet so lava bases would be fairly thematic.
