Of course, we all play VC (except me, although I do intend to get the new rulebook, so who knows). But I know a lot of you play other armies. So I was just thinking - who plays what? Which armies are played more than others? Well, let's find out.

Personally, I've played WoC since a few months before the 8th began to be adertised, and I have recently started the Empire.
I stopped Vampire Counts after I fell in love with the WoC playstyle (for wont of a better term. I do not actually lust after my scions of Chaos).

I am largely a Dark Elf and Empire player. I do intend to check out the new VC book and see if they are a fit for me. I have smaller (~500 points) armies of Skaven, Goblins, and Dwarves.

I have 3000ish points of wood elves. And 2000ish points of that is made up of actual elves! Which I much prefer to the forest spirits.
They may not be the best army in this edition, but we are not useless as a lot of internet people claim. The playstyle is very different from the VC's which can be refreshing. Having a shooting phase and charge reactions are a wonderful novelty. And then you have the monsters. Treekin and Treemen are freaking brilliant (until some one casts fireball or has some other flaming attacks. But if you do that youre a horrible person whos encouraging deforestation.)
I also happen to think that, despite the range being a bit older, the models are some of the best that GW have ever produced. The noble with a great weapon is just awesome.

You'd be surprised. I was, to find out that some staff members don't play VC at all :D I do, but that's not necessarily a good assumption to make.

On top of my current armies, which I vote on (and are listed in my sig)... I use to play Skaven and Chaos (before it got all divided up :D )

Actively I play empire.
Always liked the army, used to play every army at some point, waiting for the new codex for the Bretonians though.

My empire army is good but it has allot of iconic awesome limited edition models, forge world gear and a mountain of unpainted cannons.....

Lots and lots of Khorne for me :P started with Warriors, then Daemons and Ogres (yep, khornate ogre army ;) ) and am slowly going to start getting together a Beastmen and Chaos Dwarf army too, all united under the banner of the initial Warriors army!

I've also been considering an O&G army, used to have one but never played with it and eventually sold it, now I want to get one specifically themed around Savage Orcs and Forest Goblins. I've also got a small Brettonian army i started a few years back, but that was around the time I started college and ended up losing touch with the hobby for a couple years, so i dont really have any plans for them at the moment, will probably just hold off until a new Brettonian book comes out and get to work on em then :P

Skryre (Skaven) and Dark Elves. Combined with VC which started out as general Undead I've been playing them all forever.

I also own a small force of autumn themed Wood Elves but they were for a painting compo and were only used with the Warhammer Skirmish rules.
I might sell them off if the new book comes out as they are just gathering dust now.
Used to also play Chaos Slaanesh but sold them after the split into Beastmen, Daemons and Mortals.

Also played Chaos Dwarves for one edition as I traded them for my all night goblin army but their support dropped and I've never been into Dwarfs fluff wise.

Three armies is more than enough plus the ones I have now have been with me forever. No matter what I keep coming back to those three and they never bore.

I've got a number of armies that I WANT to play, and have army books and so on for. However, I do not really have the will, time or money to make them (having said that, I have a TK battalion sitting at home unassembled, as my plastic glue had dried up mysteriously). Also, I can't seem to find any opponents...

Ha, that is the life of a Warhammer player, I suppose; Tantalized by all of the possibilities and cool ideas, but can never have it all.

The armies that I currently have are bretonnians, lizardmen, and vc. I have also played dark elves, but I am currently selling them. Empire was an army I was going to start, but ran out of room, and didn't have the time for another army...plus I was horrible and guessing ranges. My first, and still favorite army is my bretonnians though.

Looking at the poll, I'm surprised at how many bretonnian players there are...who says that they are an unpopular army. ^_^

Now you have one that plays with TK, though I have to admit I only played a single game with them since the new book came out. I went through all WHFB armies except Skaven at some point in time but now when I am older and my attention span has grown longer I have reduced things just to the two Undead armies, High Elves and Dwarfs (that doesn't mean I stopped hoarding miniatures of almost every army in existance).

Tell me Archivist, have you ever played Dwarf Fortress? It might well be right up your alley, depending on how much ascii (text) graphics hurt your eyes. However, in spite of having the world's worst graphics, it is one of the most detailed simulator games out there... and the people on the forums need to be put into a padded cell somewhere.

C'mon guys, keep on topic.
I love pretending to be responsible.

I can see why Dark elves are popular (being evil), but Bretonnians? I dunno, maybe undead necromancers and stuck-up french nobles just go together.

I like how no one in this hobby, or rather, no one in this hobby that cares enough to come to a forum plays just one army :ghost:

Lizards were my first first first army, I got them back way way, when the battle-box was between Lizards and Brets, not even sure what edition that was, I was like 13-14? Been quite some time; I still never win though ;D

I only played vc when I joined. I only really started my woodies because people were whining about them on the internet (ie; warseer) and I like to think that they know that I do moderately well with them and it causes them discomfort. Well that and they are pretty.
And Harland, Brettonias are popular because people like knights. Cant for the life of me figure out why. Real men dont need horses to win battles.

Personally, I love guns... if there was an undead army with muskets (like the Zombie Pirates featured in an old White Dwarf), I don't think I'd sleep until I'd finished making an army. I'd also be fine with Dark Elves making a repeating rifle/carbine based on their crossbow; in fact, I designed one that would theoretically work...
