The Old World What's your view of The Old World?

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
So far, I've been having a blast. My hope is that VC will get a fully-realised ToW release soon, which would very much tempt be back to the forces of Darkness... (The other ones...) ^v^

I think we'd all love to see this, but unless/until there's another management shake up at GW it seems unlikely, as the current pattern of rigidly enforced separation of product ranges reeks of executive interference. But hey, Warriors of Chaos got to be an exception due to how fundamental they are to Warhammer, and the persistent presence of Vampire Counts in the Old World competitive scene - whether because the army is just that popular or because their pdf rules are just that strong - has got to be signalling to GW that there's demand there.

If anything happens on that front it's probably still more than a year away though. In the mean time we have the PDF rules (which are pretty good actually), the AoS models (likewise pretty good overall), the Square Based Renegade pack, and various homebrew arcane journal projects

What did you play now SethDrallitoc - an older version of WHFB or something completely different?

I know a few people who have said GW prices are ridiculous and it is a pity as some of the new models are beautiful, but can appreciate paying for example around £100 for a single character on a dragon is expensive! I've always personally got models from a variety of ranges, just found some great non-GW banshees I had stashed away the other day, so I'm pleased there's a lot more people doing it nowadays, including the 3D printing options as well.
I play a modded version of Frostgrave, Rangers of Shadow Deep, Forbidden Psalm, The Dolorous Stroke, and a whole host of TTRPGs that I insist on building minis for, even if they don't get used on the table.

My favourite game right now - and for the past 8 years is Dracula's America from Osprey Games.

It's a skirmish game with a low model count, which suits me fine after playing Skaven in 8th Edition. Low model count means I get to devote all my efforts to my true passion: terrain making (See attached)

For Warhammer, I continued playing 8th, until interest fizzled out, then went back to 6th Edition with my diehard friends. Playing only with my old armies (though I do have a Hobgoblin Army in progress using Geoff Simm's sculpts).

Personally, I've been REALLY enjoying ToW. When it dropped, I resolved myself to not just re-buy my old army (I sold my nearly all of my VC army when AoS came out), and used it at an excuse to start the other army I always wanted: Warriors of Chaos.

(Also- totally forgot I had this account- but the recent Blood Knight battle force got me reminiscing about my WHFB VC days and decided to see if I still had an account here- it worked!)
Welcome back Vengeance Crusader xd it's good to hear you've been enjoying the Old World, ultimately we really need that for it continue to be a success. Feel free to post up your army log and show us your Warriors of Chaos (y)

as the current pattern of rigidly enforced separation of product ranges reeks of executive interference.
Agreed on this, but I just can't help but feel it's bonkers. There is probably a significant group of people who would collect vampire counts, and yes likely use a lot of the AoS range, if they were properly supported. The's pretty much free cash as the models exist. I get that it would make analytics/reporting more complicated but it still seems daft. Same for Skaven etc. I'd love to know if there was further reasoning on it, especially as VC have always been a very popular faction compared to TK who previously weren't.

That terrain looks brilliant! (y) We don't see enough of that and it really brings the game alive xd
