When is the VC battalion coming out?

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
all depends on what you want in your army. I didn't like the zombies or ghouls so getting the battalion made No sense. Having to buy everything seperatly however was pretty painful. Its just not as cost effective. When i built my brets its was easy because i only wanted knights archers and men at arms in the army. I basically bought 4 boxed sets and 2 trebuchets for 250. Bargain 3k army!

It depends on a few things. First if you are using everything in the box or intend to eventually (whether it is cost efficient to spend more money now and save over time by having extra things that you don't intend to use right away is up to you) and second how many corpse carts you need. So no more than two unless you really love the corpse cart lol. The box retails for $105. You can buy it online for $77.70 shipped if you know where to look. So let's break it down shall we?

you get:

10 dire wolves $25
20 ghouls $50
20 Skellies $50
1 corpse cart $30

Total individual purchase: $155

You save: $55 (if you are using everything)

Once you run out of the need to have corpse carts around you are then only saving $25. Still not bad. And you have extra carts to trade or to sell on B-town or to a friend. At $77.70 a pop with the online discount you save about $78! Not to say you weren't buying your individual models discounted to begin with.

Me personally I support my FLGS and struck a deal with them so I can get a discount so I don't have to shop online. It's a win win for the store and me. I spend a little extra this way but I have a place to play at the end of the day. Gotta pay to play! Hope this helped a little at least lol.

As with others, I'm surprised to see them drop zombies from the box after they're finally good again. Makes me think new zombie models are in the works, though we kind of already knew that, and being in the works doesn't mean we'll necessarily be seeing them any time soon.

As it is, I think the mantic 60 zombies deal is a better battleforce then this.

That said, if you are a new player, a single block of 20 ghouls is good for watchtowers, even if you don't field more then that due to their price. Skellies are kind of iffy, but you can fear bomb with them, which helps. 10 dire wolves is nice. So it's not a bad box for new players.

I would have rather seen a greater divergence from the previous box. Maybe black knights or crypt horrors instead of the corpse cart, for instance.

Kuwanger, I can make a much larger saving than that by buying of the websites that I purchase from (For example, a box of 10 gw skeletons bnos for $20)

I think the idea is to get a partial discount that may not be as rich as possible while still supporting local business and the local gaming club.

I purchase my skeletons for $18.31 plus free shipping

I was just listing how much this sites battalions go for. $77.70 Which is nice.

Am I the only person who likes the zombie sprues? I mean, I know they're outdated, and perhaps not in line with the rest of the range, but they have so much character. Next you'll be telling me you don't like the Empire militia sprues... :zombie:

I'll probably get one of these. It's pretty good. Obviously, it needs some zombies, but I need another unit of DW, can always use more skeletons, and the ghouls will be useful at some point, I'm sure.

Agreed, I doubt you will be able to make 30+ zombies out of one box of new zombies(which you can do with the current ones). They (GW) know we need lots of zombies. When new zombies come out its gonna be like $25 for 10 models. We are goin skele style. Suddenly these old cappy zombie boxes are going to be gold. Glad I've got 120 zombies stocked up for the apocalypse :grave:

Nah, my guess is £25 for 20 (same price as the current skaven clanrats after another round of price increases). However, they will be nearly monopose if this is the case (this would be sold as 'easier to assemble large hordes'), a la the skaven clanrats.

If that happens, you'll the second one I have to murder, for suggesting it :ghost: (the first being the person responsible at GW obv.)

Honestly, that would be the worst thing that could possibly happen! I would much rather stick with the current zombies than pay them for single pose crap! :grave: Hell I'd rather pay more for the current zombies than trade them for single pose models.

Man, and I don't even like the mantic zombies :zombie:

Not COMPLETELY single pose, but with one arm and the legs pre-attached to the body. As I said, see the skaven clanrats sprue. Otherwise, they're likely to be rather more expensive, since there'll be more sprue space taken up the more bits the figures come in.

EDIT: I've just thought... what about if they also include non-human zombies on the sprue? I'd love me some zombie goblins, saurus and elves...

That might be interesting, but I have a feeling it would be slightly frowned upon in the case that people wanted only 'Classic' zombies, and not such wild things.

Then again if they released them as a separate box so people had choices..

Or in those limited 'Sprue bags' they release for campaign Kit bashes, but with.. components that made some of the basic models look more zombified you could add on? (Heads/arms that could be added to the core kits instead of whole models made over), but I highly doubt they'll include non-human zombies any time soon. I mean hell, just look at the silly hair the VC's women have, they clearly have a very strict art direction they want the models in, and basing the other fantasy elements into it kinda throws it off :ghost:

New spirit hosts please. I can't remember the last time I saw someone use those models. Most people paint up 4 infantry sized models and paint them ethereal. I think until we get rid of the trick o treat ghosties this is our only real option lol.

And that is why Mantic Zombies are perfect.

I wouldn't say they are perfect, they are just as poor in sculpt quality as the outdated gw zombies. Thats why I make my zombies out of corpse cart bits (which as actually just as cheap if you know where to shop for the bits)

same tawg, I can tolerate the zombies and ghouls, and I feel that all of their kits lack variety/options...
I cant tolerate their skellies. Skulls do not frown.

Show me where one skull in the mantic skeleton kits is frowning.

And as far as the zombies go, I can understand both not liking them for aesthetic reasonsas well as them not being "perfect" (perhaps my earlier comment was a little too magnanimous)

However, in no way are they the same level of quality as a ten + year old kit GW serves up. The sculpting quality is top notch, and there is little flash or mold lines meaning casting quality is high. The GW sculpts are dated and have clown hands.

Every one of the mantic skulls has a frowny face.... look at the shape of the forehead and eyes.
The mantic zombies aren't terribly detailled and have nowhere near the amount of customisation of the dated games workshop zombies.

There is a great example- look, he has bonebrows! and instead of a jawbone, his jaw is somehow just one contiguous piece with the rest of his skull.
Also, his lower leg bones are way too short in comparison to his other bones

They don't look like frowns to me, more like evil grimace's ala army of darkness.

@ the zombies. Guts hanging out, fractured skin, part of the skull exposed. The spine detailed into the back as if its showing through the skin, the walking spine bit in particular has individually detailed vertebrae. how more detailed can you get with zombies?

Having tested the Mantic Zombies I concur that they are of superior sculpting quality to the GW dated ones, but then to be fair they were produced around a decade later xd

However we digress, this thread is not to compare GW and Mantic zombies.

[mod]Back on Topic[/mod]

Indecently, I recently made a rather large purchase to expand my army by a billion, which included a Battalion of the old variety, which I am glad, since I still need upwards of 40+ more zombies to fully realize a force of zombies that can be fielded and allow me extras to summon :skull:
