Why is everyone on most other forums so convinced that it will be High Elves and Skaven when GW have confirmed it to be Empire vs Greenskins... Just ask at your local GW. They are allowed to tell you what armies are in it, just not what are in the armies.

Because a lot of reputable sources say HE vs Skaven and they have been consistent in that rumour for ages. It could be an elaborate hoax, but it's more likely the one guy you spoke to was making stuff up 
Wish I could ask my local GW that question but they have no stores in the state I live in (New Mexico) 
Now I would be a happy camper if the starter set is Empire vs Greenskins since I am starting a Orcs and Goblins army and Empire can be easily converted to VC .

Meh, the guy has no reason to lie and it kind of slipped out when I was talking to someone about it, saying it might be Empire and Chaos and he looked up and said nah, it's Empire or Orcs, and then had a look on his face that maybe he shouldn't have said anything. Then he told us that he can tell us what armies it is, just not what's in the box.

I'm fairly sure that the contents listed by Aegis are pretty much confirmed as the contents of the box.
Aye, that's the list that I've been seeing tossed around too. It's pretty impressive, at least on par with Skull Pass (if the models match up, of course).

Yeah, I guess if the swordmasters can make it, they'd uberpwn just about anything the rats could throw at them. But still, only ten of them - thin them out some with ranged/magic, and the elves have problems.
Anyway, I'll probably pick it up. I picked up Skull Pass, even though I didn't play either army. Just seems like such a good deal.

Aha. I was hoping they would put in one of the new Skaven weapons. Shame they didn't throw in an abomination.
I have no real problem with it being HE and skaven, just more converted GG, Skeles and Zombies (rat zombies? hmmm ), but I wont be convinced until I see it I guess. I already preordered it because I'm not interested in paying AU$160 for the BRB and I want the little one and as I said, no matter what is in it, I'm a big time converter for my army, so there was no reason to give me a sales pitch either.

Id really like to see the HEvsSK starter set as a definite product. My brother plays skaven and I would convert the elves into various undead.
Mainly id be buying it for the condensed rulebook though, while I like all the extras in the new BRB id prefer a slimmed down version for easy tabletop reference and such.

The HE monster could be good material for an abyssal terror conversion. Clever of GW to only have the Skaven mortar available in the starter box.

I saw the models today, and I must say, they are simply fantastic. The Griffon and the Rat Ogres especially. Come September 4th, I'm definitely picking up one of these.
