Why did you choose your Avatar?

I've noticed recently that many people have changed their avatar, so the question I put to you all is - why did you choose that particular picture?

For me, the reason I choose this was a surprising one. As many will have noted, it is the picture of the Invocations front cover. When Zephyr first emailed it to me both my missus and eldest daughter noted that it bore a disturbingly accurate resemblance to me, in fact they first questioned why someone had drawn a picture of me.

After that, and considering what a superb work of art it is, I had to have it as my Avatar.

Captain Spaulding, one of the devils rejects(as they call themselves). I think he is a cool movie villian, I mean what not love about a homicidal clown with a seriously dark humour while at the same time being a caring father. You dont see that one every day. Plus I like the deranged parody on uncle sam with the clown twist.

No matter what I always seem to return to this avatar.

 

[The Inspector]

I've had my avatar for years, and those who have known me for that time are probably aware that I was something of a sensation in the rumour department a few years ago.

I changed my name to The Inspector to better suit my function among the online Warhammer community, and the avatar is of the most famous Inspector of all time! The actual picture is from an article on Sherlock Holmes that was on the BBC website at the time.

because i suppose i like the way the Joker works, sneaky and tricky and kinda evil but puts a humour to it. And evil clowns have always been a liking of mine

I use images of my favourite fictional characters as avatars. The current one is of an individual from the Touhou series of shoot-em-up games, done in an outlandish style with freaky colouring. Others I've used are of my VC general and her sidekick who is currently afoot in the TVC. I plan to eventually get an animated GIF which showcases them all in intervals, that way I won't ever have to switch! :lol:

It's my Vampire's personal heraldry, but as I see everyone else changing their avatar I might end up switching to something I'm working on for my Averlanders (And when I do I won't change it back before everybody else does as well... Yes DoN and MS, I'm looking at you).

Simply I spotted it somewhere (can't remember where) and thought it looked cool so i used it.

Well mine was simple, it is the image of Bilbo Baggins from the animated Hobbit Movie from the 70's.

Maybe we can start an Evil Clown army, to counter DoN's perverted legion and take control of this place! Heehaahahohahahahuhaha!

Anyway, my avatar is self-evident - it had to be an evil clown! I switch it from time to time, but it's usually a mean looking jester/joker-ish guy. I've had an obsession with both clowns and the horror genre since a very early age, and I soon combined the two; that, and I can scare people witless with my avatar as many folks seem to suffer from coulrophobia!

Indeed, there is something about the image of a clown with a mean trick up its sleeves which makes people cringe. Aside from horror
I think it is why I liked Tim Burtons Batman so much, a damn shame they didnt go the extra mile there, it could have been so epic!

The Wuffingas ("Woolf people") dynasty ruled East Anglia, where I live, between c. 570 and 750 AD. Most notable of the remnants left (probably) by the dynasty is the site at Sutton Hoo, about 45 mins from my home;

When the site was excavated it yielded an extraordinary haul of Saxon artifacts and treasure, much of which is now at the British Museum. The avatar is of the famous royal helmet found at the site and is thought to have belonged to King Rædwald one of the most important Anglian Kings.

If you are in Suffolk at any time it is really worth a visit. The location is beautiful but the burial mounds themselves are eerie even today.

BTW there is a bit of a dispute over whether the dynasty were Wuffings or Wuffingas but the latter just seems more entertaining (in a juvenile way).
