Why did you start VC?

I've loved horror-flicks since forever. It was the natural choice, alongside daemons. Despite being on a break from warhammer I'll never sell my plastic war dolls... And Mordheim also have vampires and daemons in it, so that's nice.

I started (well, will) VC because the whole image of Gothic, blood-sucking evil guys appeals to me, along with the great fluff. I just found it hard not to be drawn in, and when I found this site, it was impossible to say no to collecting the guys. Not to mention all the freedom that you can have - vampires can come from anywhere, be anything, and the zombies + skeletons can be really customisable, which is a huge plus.

Exactly. Other armies are constricted to certain archetypes due to race, whereas we can have huge hordes of zombies that contain orcs, elves, humans and even beastmen. Hell, that's be kinda cool, a zombified beastman

I started playing VCs, because when I was first playing Warhammer Fantasy (Wayyy back in maybe 1992 or 1993), my best mate who was playing as well, always ran Undead or High Elves, while I was running Orcs & Goblins. Undead causing fear, and Goblins Fearing High Eleves just used to really ruin my day every time :(

We both quit playing when I went away to boarding school, but a few years later I started playing again. But this time I didn't want to be destroyed by fear, so switched to Vampire Counts so that I could actually win games lol.

Now the rules for fear have changed, so maybe I'll experiment with other armies as well, but VCs still seem like a safe/stable option.

yep true blood is the best! i havent seen season 3 yet. the books are quite different to the series, i see it like a whole different storyline but the first books are prety much erotica xD which is always fun!

I remember being dragged to see twighlight once and the whole time all i could hear was "its not like in the book", are you one of those types :P I know one of key differences was that Lafayette got killed in the books. Season 3 is very good, I think unlike heroes it gets better with every season!

Yea i have to agree with you there malochai, i love customizing the pieces, there is so much conversion-ability with vc's!

It's one of the things i enjoy about the hobby, it's nice when you put something on the table that only you have.

And I'm guessing by your avatar that devils rejects is one of them ;)

Well i do love the Twilight series, and the books are better then the films, Bella is just a whiny anoying girl in the films, but i don't really see them as vampires, they are more superman like kryptonions (cant spell it) who have no weeknesses and impossible to kill, but i find it fun.

also Tara is very different in the books then tv series and Bill is quite a horrible vamp for first few books. and yea true blood does get better unlike Heroes, which is ashame coz heroes had to much potential! i cant wait till season 3 of true blood comes out on tv in england! :konrad:

I especialy agree with you that it is great having something on the table thatonly you have.

Well to be honest the only thing I liked about the twiglight films was the redhead vampire! I didn't really find them all that enthralling! I agree they don't really feel like vampires, but do the vampires in true blood, in dracula he can walk around in the day after all.

What I like is at the moment we are seeing alot more vampire stuff, a lot more films and TV shows are being made, Vampire Diaries is pretty good, not as good as true blood but certainly very interesting, btw why wait for it to come on TV? You think I'm watching true blood on TV ;) The problem with heroes was that Season 1 set the bar pretty high, then they went and changed writers and the other guy just made loads of stupid changes that would be hard to change and make plausible, I mean Peters power's are a prime example, why exactly did he lose them, it made him a nice balancing act for Sylar, Why id Sylar a blood good guy now anyways?? I live in hope that the next season is better!

Its good to see we have more like minded warhammer players, I tend to only convert my character models but I think it makes enough of a difference for me, My vampire is very different however, I have yet to meet anyone who uses Mantic models!

Twilight?! Praise?! In a topic I created?! Noooo!!! I am tainted!!! :grave:

On a separate note, it's nice to see this old thread is getting some attention... even if it is because of *shudders* Twilight. xD

Praise is praise, and after what Order of Blood Dragon threatened me with, the word Twilight has become synonymous with :grave: .

Dooom to Twilight! For they doomed the Vampire race!!! :vampire2:

Can we stop talking about Twilight, I can feel my brain melting :(

If I can gather some sense of this is it safe for me to assume the reason why Vampire Counts are appealing is, much like True blood, is that while the encapsulate the romantic aspect of vampires they do not neglect the vicious nature, aka the beast within. In essence the series does not bastardize the ancient mythos about vampires. This is the reason I am able to follow the series as well, True Blood that is(same cannot be said for Vampire Diaries which ends up too close to Twilight... Gah, only typing the title of the series spoils my brain :O ).

That said, I really really miss the days when vampires were allowed to be the "monster" in the movie and not some silly love interest.

i just wana say i wasn't really praising twilight, i was infact saying they are massively overpowered and said they were on the scale of supermans kryptonions. (which in my opinion is also massively overpowered) .

I agree that true blood has the romantic side with lots of the vampires vicious nature in it. i have never seen vampire diaries, i was told it was rubbish. In buffy the vampires were generally the big bad monster which was fun  :suck: except for angel and sometimes spike but that doesnt really count due to curses and chips in brains.

True Blood is fantastic. One of the shows that shows both sides of the coin, vampires as romantic interests as well as monsters that kill. Plus in most episodes you get to see naked flesh....though that's not a patch on Spartacus Blood and Sand - every episode has sex acts and breasts.......I love that show xD

Thats actually the side if vampire's i like, I find the image of Vampire's being just monsters being rather boring, I like the idea that you that you don't know who your really sitting next to. I would say you have watch Vampire diaries and judge it for yourself, my girl friend has told me the TV show is very different from the books and infact really likes the books so maybe look those up.

The only thing I liked about Buffy was buffy ;) the film is rather amusing however!

Sounds like i am missing out on something, i think i will have to look into spartacus, see if its on catchup or something, have you seen TB season 3 btw?

I started VC as my third army (my first two armies were Orcs&Goblins and Dwarves) after Finland Grand Tournament 2009. I was playing with Dwarves then (Thorek Ironbrow with his gunline xD) and I saw some GREAT armies there. Troops rising from their graves, what could be cooler than that!? :D After the tournament I searched some more pictures from web. They really inspired me to start a Vampiric army.

Let's say that I started VC because models were great, new army book was just arrived and the army was easy to convert. I LOVED converting, shame that these days I don't have enough imagination to get all those crazy converion ideas. For example, in GT I had drunken Dwarf Warrior unit, some Dwarves were on wheelbarrows and some of them were eating sandwiches etc... Shame I don't have the unit anymore, I just sold it away to my friend. :)

I wanted to be VC because when I was a kid I liked Vlad von Carstein and Isabella story. The Vlad model looks sweet and I want to paint another Isabella von Carstein and play them...

Unfortunately, the game has changed since the 90's. :(

Hmm I find Vampires to be more on the monster only side that's why I have my army themed to the Konrad the Bloody legion (you know that guy doesn't love people HE RIPS THEM APART!:suck:)
but I do like vampires that use their tactics to fight not their super powers. xD

I also joined vc's coz i love the fact that we arnt painting the same human models again and again, we have things like wolves, ghouls, bats, etherials, etc.
and i read the story of vlad the impaler (the real vlad,) in a book of a history of serial killers and it fascinated me. he was such a messed up man! (and no i am not a serial killer, i just find their mind sets fascinating, )

I actually started VC when they were released in 6th Edition. I have always liked Vampires in general (reading Dracula, watching Interview with a Vampire, etc.) because they are just either super-cool, super bad-ass or just generally super.
But what really got me persuaded was when I read about them in the White Dwarf and then picked up the armybook. The bloodlines were just too cool and although I do still love playing my VC in 8th (also in 7th) they have seen a lot less time on the board since the 7th edition book came along with its "mix-and-match Vampires". I know you can still play according to fluff but it would be waaay cooler if the bloodlines made a comeback in 8th.

Another great influence were books written by "Wolfgang Hohlbein" called "Die Chroniken der Unsterblichen" (german ... "Chronicles of the Immortal"). If anyone of you can get your hands on these books they are great fun to read and portray a Vampire(s) living through the different stages and centuries in Europe (about Middle Ages till 1800).

Cheers
