Why do people bother with Insane Computer Specs and so-forth?

I like to have awesome computer specs simply for maximum performance on my video games. I don't need to go INSANE, but it's always nice to have the 'oomph' necessary to run something like, say, Mass Effect 2 (or 3, when it comes out). Currently, my PC is aging rather poorly, and it's surprisingly frustrating being unable to run the latest cutting-edge games. Must...upgrade......:zombie:

I like to record gameplay of cool stuff every now and then, which facilitates the need for higher grade hardware depending on the game.
