I have well over 50 skellies and rarely do i find myself disapointed. So no. If u use them right they will get their job done.

But, as far as why? Becausd this aint your lil sisters sparkle-pires.. here there b monsters and wr f***ing eat people.

I'd honestly wait till 9th edition to play VC, we got hella-nerfed in 8th, most games are just an exercise in frustration for me as my far-superior opponents steamroll me over and over again. Judging by the number of High Elf and Ogre Kingdom bootprints on my VC's rear, I'd say play one of those two.

Hey!! All of my Vampire Count models I coated in a nice thick sealant ... That also happens to be glittery!! So my vampires are Sparkle-pires!!

Reasons to play Vampire Counts:

Mass-regenerating units
Near-unkillable characters, when properly done
Ultimate tarpits (see first reason)
Awesome screaming power
Bloodlines-Dracula (von Carstein), Sensual and stunning but deadly (Lahmian, also hate men), ancient wizards locked away in towers studying and experimenting (Necracrh), devolved monsters living off stale blood in graveyards (Strioi), martial perfection, and a Master Vampire who cured himself of his thirst (Blood Dragons and Abhorash)
Great spells
Most units can be used as chaff in one way or another, especially dirt-cheap (3-8 point) core
Ethereal chaff
Ethereal light cavalry who can run through enemy units and cause damage
Healing Lore Attribute
Easy to theme
Due to global reach of Vampires, any bloodline or personality can be invented
An Ethereal caster (or he can fly) who uses Death and Vampires, reveals magic items, and heals units by causing wounds
A Chaos Champion hero
A caster with 5 wounds, Vampire Lord profile and bucket loads of potential power/dispel dice, partially from combat
Can be semi-professional, regimented army, or can be a massive, shambling horde, based on character choice
Vampires and Undead, creatures of the night
A spell to increase movement or combat bonus

Those are all the reasons I can think of to play Vampire Counts.

If you like hordes of skeletons but don't like the way Tomb Kings play.

It's a high skill cap army. Lots to learn from.

Not a "point and click" army. We shamble, but it takes some finesse.

Want to learn make way rules? Take us.

Want to learn how to really maximize efficiency in the magic phase and play the "magic phase poker game"? Take us.

No tricks. Everything says what it does on the box.

Terrorgheist is one of the coolest monsters, IMO. And, the game of "keep the TG alive, but still have him do something" is a fun one that any general can learn form.

People seem to be overlooking one of the greatest features of the VC- No running away and losing your entire unit just because you rolled badly after losing a combat. Sure, a few guys crumble, but you won't have a combat where only two guys die and lose the entire unit because they run.
