Howdy all. This was my first battle with the new vampire counts rules. We decided to go for 1500 pts, mainly because that's all the points I have painted right now.

Anyway, I brought:
General Vampire with lord of dead, dark Ac and walach bloody hauberk and the biting blade.
Vampire with lord of dead, dark Ac, helm of command and the cadaverous cuirass.
A wight lord with sword of kings
14 skellies with spear and command General in here.
14 skellies with hw/sh and command
20 zombies with command
5 dire wolves
14 grave guard with command and banner of the dead legion, wight king here.
6 black knights with command
Varghulf
I got raise dead and Vanhells for general and Curse of years and raise undead horde with the second vampire.

He brought two beefed up saurus heroes and one skink priest
2 units of 20 saurus, one with spear.
2 units of 16 skinks, one with javelins
1 unit of 3 kroxigors
1 unit of 7 chameleon skinks
He got comet spell and second sign.

The terrain didn't matter much because it was deployed in a very stupid fashion. hehe.

I deployed from left to right.
Black knights, dire wolves, varghulf, spearskellies, zombies, skellies with hand weapons, grave guard. And my commandment helmed vampire behind my lines to aid with ws.

He deployed from left to right.
Skinks with javelins, saurus, saurs with spears, skinks and kroxigors behind them in skirmish screen and his priest behind them too. And he deployed his chameleons behind my lines almost in sight of my lone vampire.

We deiced of for first turn and he got it.

Turn 1.
His cursed chameleons ran up behind my grave guard in range of my lone vampire, doh what a mistake I made. All his other units advanced towards my lines. In his magic phase he got of the comet on an irresistible cast and placed it near my grave guard. His chameleons started shooting at the lone vamp scoring 5 poison wounds and two ordinary hits. But I laughed and declared that he was immune to poison. Only one measly hit manages to wound him, but his armour easily saved him.

The comets does not crash down. My vamp charges the chameleons and they cannot stand and shoot due to him being within half their range. Rest of my army surges forward, my fast and nasty on the left flank moves up to threatens his flanks and to get within range of his skins. In the magic phase I beef up the hw skellies to 20 with IoN and the zombies to 26. My Vampire in cc with the chameleons begins to butcher them, but due to their coldblooded nature they stay and fight.

Turn 2
His kroxigors charge through the skinks who is forced to leap out of the way of the towering behemoths. The large lizards slam into my grave guard. His skinks goes around the flank of the grave guard and his priest follows close behind. The two saurus units turn slightly to face my flankers. His priest decides to cast Comet on another spot but fails in his attempts. In shooting he kills one black knight with the javelin skinks. Those javelins are quite nasty. In close combat my vampire kills another three chameleons and the slow witted lizard finally decide to make a run for it. His kroxigors whiffs and only manages to kill two grave guard. I win combat and they break but outpace me, his priest panics and joins the mad routing.

I charge his skinks on the left flank with dire wolves and black knights. My grave guard and skellies charge the spear saurs block with his general. They pass their fear checks. My lone vamp moves closer to aid with his ws. Zombies and spears wheel to invite the other saurs block into a charge. My varghulf moves around the flank, behind the skinks. In magic I cant get anything of, due to really poor dice rolling. But in the close combat I kill 6 of his saurus and he only manages to kill 4 skellies. I win and he breaks. I caught him, and in the process his kroxigors are forced to flee and exit the battle. My dire wolves and black knights win easily against the skinks and they both pursue of the board.

Turn 3.
Being only left with one block of saurus, he concedes.

I only lost 1 bk, 4 GG and some skellies. A real massacre!

I learned to be more cautious with scouts, especially chameleons, the only thing that saved my vamp was his magic armour.

Kroxigors are really rock hard, 10 s 7 attacks are very nasty, I was just lucky they whiffed. I need to take them down with magic, or give my gg great weapons.

Dire wolves are fast, very fast. I didn't realize this but 18 inches of charge range is pretty far and could have got them into combat earlier.

So all in all it was a fun battle which we both enjoyed!
