I was planning on taking a brace of cheap WKs (great weapons and armor only) to stand about in my zombies and add some punch. They're cheap and sturdy enough to answer challenges with a decent chance of not dying instantly. Might BSB one to reduce losses from losing fights all the time with the zombies.

In this role they seem quite good; just a damage amp for zombie units to give them some punch for a good price. The leadership might be useful too. Since I'll be IoNing the zombies quite abit, there'll be a few spare wounds flying about for them too (lore att).

Wraiths are better for this job IMO

Seems like you might rather have the WK to me.

You say a wraith is better why? Partially because he can make a worthless unit of zombies a tad bit scarier, with no risk to himself (Save for crumble/the Zombies sucking hard)? But with the WK, you gain the ability to one shot other heroes (A chance anyways) and more importantly, with his resilience coupled with the fact that he is not Ethereal could encourage players to throw directed attacks at him, which essentially shores up CR for the zombies, since those attacks would have surely gotten more damage in on them :ghost: I mean it depends on the situation in general, but I would for more often prefer a WK if I'm spending the Hero slot like that anyways.

The points difference definitely favors the WK IMO, you don't save as much as you gain with him; Plus the ability to tool him up is also quite a bit greater. And like someone else said, the higher Ld can come in handy (Quick reforms especially; Oh or against TK with a Casket!) so it could really take an opponent by surprise if a unit of zombies were to reform and take their move at once :ghost:

Reason I like the wraith for this job is he can run out and speedbump units, causes terror, is way cheaper, can wound very tough things (see steamtank) and decreases attacks coming back at you.

Do not get me wrong I love the Wight King but this is not his job

Well for sure, if you're just trying to speed bump or wound things that normally are extremely hard to handle, the Wraith makes sense; But on the other hand the WK adds elements that could be useful in the same units (Zombies in this case). Sure a Wraith would add some oompf, and could potentially stall random units up or such, but I disagree with the sentiment that they decrease attacks back. Could you explain that one for me? 'Cause at 20mm the opponents would be able to attack a zombie to either side of the Wraith, unless you're planning to play that 'Wraith wall' in the front line of zombies?

Also it's definitely worth the consideration of the WK for killing blow. Wraith could hold up a unit that doesn't static CR it to death or have magic attacks, but the WK could accidentally kill one of their unit-champ/heroes or worse, one of their heroes that actually matter. It just depends what you'll be facing, or how you plan to use them I guess.

What I meant with negating attacks is against 25mm and such when you get the charge you can get full contact but leave one of their columns eating wraith

Yeah, you can stick a WK in a unit of Horrors/little Vargs just fine. He'll just get shunted off to the side because of the different base size.

BRB pg97 "Unless otherwise stated, a character cannot join a unit of monsters (too much danger of being stood on), a unit of flyers (too many ill-disciplined wings buffeting the sky)" etc.

-> BSB can join MI, but not fliers ie. little vargs

Yeah, I see how that could work. But then you're 'Negating' what maybe, 3-5 attacks? Depending on base attacks or spears or such.

In any case, I still think the WK is resilient enough that putting him in the center of a unit and allowing them the choice to focus their attacks on him rather than the unit is a better option. He would survive most units that aren't elite/high Str, easily, and in my experience with gaming a good tactic is often to leave options available to your opponent and allowing them to make bad choices you give them :pumpkin:

Plus the pts difference is only like 25-30 ish. I'd rather have two WK, than three Wraiths.

dont forget unmodified leadership is the highest lD in a unit according to gw faq.

so if you stick him in a unit of zombies or even better ghouls and cast mind razor they start ripping through stuff at a horrifying rate.

wraiths main thing is not that they cause terror but they are etheral, great against none daemon and treeman armys.
