When Wolfie's 'TT standard' ends up being far better than anything you could hope to paint, after months of training and practice, does anyone else feel the instinct to snap their paint brushes in half??!

Nice work again Wolfie.. you keep a high standard to your painting even when you are only aiming for the TT standard...

Being only an average painter myself, and not really looking to ever move much beyond a TT standard (hey, some of us in the hobby are painters, some are gamers, yet others bond more with the fluff/story aspect of the hobby.. I consider myself one of the third group, with a little of the second group thrown in), I don't feel like I'm in the position to offer any criticism, so instead, I offer an observation.

I'm not sure what it is that you are doing with the way that you are painting the metal components on your models, but the way that they are appearing to me, is that if I were to pick them up, and be touching the metal parts (or most of your nurgle model), that I would be left with a greasy residue on my fingers. The metal parts just look really oily and greasy to me, like the sort of metal parts that you would see in an engine.. was that a deliberate intention, or is it only something I am seeing and others aren't?

I do have to say, I really do like the autumn scheme that you have gone with for your wood elves :D

Hehe, my intention with the Nurgle lord was to get a sickly feel to the metals, without resorting to a laquered green armour. It had to look as if touching the armour is deadly. Guess I succeeded then.
The swords on the Wardancer were actually painted using an NMM method for painting real metals. It's got reversed highlighting on both blade halfs (light to dark on the left and dark to light on the right half) to represent the light reflecting.
About the greasyness, on these swords. :D
If you've ever looked at modern daggers, swords and bayonets you'll see/feel that the blade is rather greasy. This is to enable the wielder to swiftly pull the blade from the scabbard without it getting stuck. It also provides some layer of protection against water and dirt.

Cheers, Wolfie

*Tips my hat to you*

So based on your reply, and the initial reaction that the metals look greasy/oily to me.. you have suceeded totally in the look you were going for with the metals.

*Tips my hat again*

You have done a great job with them. I like the Nurgle one in particular, the sword looks awesome. The blood effect is very good. :)

Hey Wolfie just checked out your thread, very nice stuff. I really like the camo-type scheme you have for your Wood Elves as its a take on WE I have never seen before. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next update!

Thanks mate. Sorry to disappoint you, but the next update is probably going to take a while as I'm currently a bit away from the hobby. :(

Cheers, Wolfie

Time to revive this thread as it's been left alone for far to long. Decided to post the pics of my To4G exploits here as well as this part of the forum gets more views and I can always use some constructive criticism. :D
Pictures of last month's wardancers and lord and some pics of 3 finished Glade Guard. The GG have been painted quite fast, so please keep that in mind as they're not the most neatly painted minis ever. :)

As always, comments and criticism are highly appreciated.

After another return to mini painting, I thought I'd upload a picture of what i'm working on ATM. I started it this summer and it was supposed to be a competition entry, but I didn't get to finish it due to school starting again. Anyway, did some more work on it recently and here it is. Not to happy about the colour of the backpack so I'm probably going to change it.
He's about half the size of a Warhammer hero model, so I can't paint to much in detail.

As always, c&c are appreciated.

Yes, it is a Helldorado mini. Have a cookie for guessing that. :)
It's called Messire Valet if I remember correctly.

Your painting is very smooth and the models look very natural. Still I think you could do some more shading to bring out some more depth into them. With the skills you obviously have it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks mate. I'll do some touching up as soon as I finish the painting and I'll probably highlight a bit further then. In all fairness though I must say that the picture took out most of the highlights. :)

Cheers, Wolfie

Painting a Cold One for display and to test some skintones for my Lizzies who will be revamped. Not so flashy as the GW scheme and a lot more natural looking. The pic isn't that good, but it's a Green tone based on Catachan Green with a blue tinge due to some glazes. Looks a bit more blue than I wanted, but that ties them in with the traditional Lizzie scheme, which is fine.

Anyway, C&C are appreciated as always. :)

Thanks mate. Took some bad pics with my camera during the night and I botched the touching up part.
Anyway, their the latest version of the Dark Elf Cold Ones and they're brilliant. It's actually the first mount I'm painting since I painted a HE horse when I started WHFB. I hate painting horses, but this one's a dream to paint. It still looks a bit greener IRL though.

Cheers, Wolfie

Yes, i think so to, but it's quite understandable as it costs a lot to make a new mold. And the Lizzie Cold Ones are allready plastic.
I've got 4 left if you want to trade some. the only one missing is the Champion Cold One.

Cheers, Wolfie

They're a bit fiddly yes, but if you paint them in parts they're quite easy to paint. :)

cheers, Wolfie

Picked up a brush after about a year of no painting. Painted 7 dryads in about 4 hours for TT. Nothing fancy, mostly drybrushing and washes. Nothing some nice bases can't solve. :)

Anyway:
