Oooo...well, GW has stated that it won't be this year or next (same story with bretts). From what I've gathered, dwarfs are this summer, warriors are this winter and high elves will be next year followed by beasts "of chaos."
I play Wood Elves myself and while they are considered the bottom of the barrel by the majority of people, they still win tournaments all over the place and I enjoy them a lot. They are worth trying out.

Hehe, Warriors are not in dire need of an update (more of a toning down/ sorting somethings right out ((initiative/ MoT mainly...)) ), I'd much rather they went back over the daemon book first. ;D

It truly is a shame about wood elves though. They could be amazing in 8th edition, especially with all the new terrain rules and such, as well as skirmishers ranking up in combat. And of course, a MAHUSSIVE ent/treekin monster on TG base. sure, it might not fit in properly... but it'd be expected, after all, this is Horde&Monster hammer now, Right? ^___^

@ seneschal, where do you keep hearing these rumours of dwarfs this summer? Cos I'm not hearing that myself, next month is the big 40k fliers release (at least according to bow) then 40k 6th ed on july the 7th, chaos Legions/da August, starter box for 6th in September, warriors of chaos Oct/Nov, last part of the year for the hobbit.

Back to the original question, I'm not seeing we coming out for three years probably, next year will be 40k heavy to support 6th, we will be lucky to get two army books I think, rumours of demons for a dual release with 40k. Rumours of tau, eldar and bt next year plus at least one expansion for 40k.

Its weird cos Matt ward plays WE, and wrote the last book, but I suppose they aren't that uncompetitive atm, though they do require a lot of skill and experience.

Johnny crass is starting a WE army, and has been talking about it in the know your enemy section.

they cant have two 40k releases in a row that would mess up the pattern of releasing 40k/fantasy/40k/fantasy and so on, so the release after necrons should be a fantasy release of some sort, if not i will be very surprised.

It was actually somewhere on this site where I first read the dwarf rumor. I was surprised by it myself as I've only heard word of the other 3 armies (insert shrugging smiley face).
Does Mr. Ward still play Wood Elves? Usually an army will be redone a lot sooner if someone in the studio is actively using them.
Yes, I've spoken to Johnny about his WE list and I'm excited to hear about his games.

I mentioned the dwarf rumor since them and warriors have been talked about a lot in rumor stuff over on warseer itself.

Also I wouldn't trust beasts of wars for rumors that supposed flyer thing was mentioned last year for summer if I remember correctly.

6th edition 40k is meant for this summer chaos legions is supposed to be after that then warriors after that with dwarfs supposdly this year as well how I don't know but that's what I been hearing.

No rumors lately of any release for wood elves though of course I don't think they know what to do with them or bretonnians lately so were stuck in limbo currently with our 6th edition books.

Except, weren't there two Fantasy releases in a row just now? VC and then Empire? They seem to be making up for the pattern thing through releasing "second waves" of miniatures (e.g. current Necron new releases...).

no there wasnt, there was another release in march, it was space wolfs and tyranids, and then it was empire the pattern is still the same, yh its only second waves and stuf but still the pattern is the same whther its a major or minor release, obv with the exeption of lotr in feb.

GW just want to make money, and if they have to annoy some fantasy players to do so, bad luck on the fantasy players. I personally think that WE and the brets are in danger of being dropped like chaos dwarves were back in 6th (or was it 7th?) ed. GW have already dissed the brets by saying that the empire is the greatest human nation, and Wood elves are the target of choice for being victimised. It's high elves that GW loves and it likes dark elves, too. So, because not many people play brets and WE, GW are deciding to help the more successful 40K market (and LoTR to an extent). The reasons dwarves and WoC are getting re-done is not because the players want an update, it's because everyone else is in an outcry against their broken natures, and one think GW listens to is large outcries. Also, dwarves will be really happy with GW after they get some giant dwarf monster (dunno what it's going to be for them; perhaps a massive robot with a dwarf inside?). Anyway, the only armies that are allowed by GW to be broken in 8th are daemons and skaven (dark elves are also broken, but their new book will probably fix that (when they get one)).

Bretonnians and Wood Elves won't be going the way of Chaos Dwarfs since they actually have books and even have sections in the 8th edition rulebook where as Chaos Dwarfs never even had an actual book they had a White Dwarf list type of deal.

There is also a lot more people that play both armies then some people even think I mean just go to the round table forums we have over 5 thousand members and I'm fairly sure every single one or most play or own a bretonnian army same goes for the wood elves with their almost 6 thousand members if there's that many people registered to a forum you can bet that a lot of them play that particular army.

Player outcry of Dwarfs broken? That's a new one on me their getting an update because of the way their dispel dice generation work and most likely a major overhaul of their rune system and whatever else and I don't think many dwarf players are looking forward to some type of giant dwarf monster if I recall I think it was rather so so to the people over on bugmans forum.

Warriors getting an update is no shock to me their one of the other big sellers for GW when it comes to fantasy alongside Empire and Orcs & Goblins and who knows what else.

But this was a question about army book releases, so far as I'm aware there are no plans for a 2nd wave style release this year for fantasy, and I'm pretty sure there will only be one more army book (woc), its already been heavily leaked we are getting fliers for 40k in June, after a 2nd wave for necrons this month, and then 6th in july. I'm not saying there won't be any fantasy models, but I'm not seeing an army coming out.

@ senechal, yep, he used them in a wd (admittedly a while back) I think he also uses we in the multiplayer battle from the 8th brb.

ive heard that wood elf book wont be coming out until 2013/2014....however harry has mentioned that after empire it will be dwarfs and then warriors of chaos near to the end of this year, so my money is on dwarfs as there have been rumours about them, i do both dwarfs and warriors of chaos so im not bothered what book gets re done...although i do think that warriors of chaos dont really neeed an update....but thats just me. But yh wood elfs not any time soon, and same goes for brettonians, sorry people if im right, i hope im not i do think wood elfs deserve a new book, more than anyone (Y)

The beasts of chaos rumor came from The Dark General who is a WH veteran and a very prominent tournamnet player. I figured I would post it since he would probably be a reliable source.

Yeah, some new models for warriors would Be nice (rumoured to be plastic chariot/warshrine, plastic dragon ogres, forsaken, a new chaos dragon and something special, I'm hoping for a warmammoth.) the lores of the gods being as useful as the lores from the brb would be nice too, but they aren't desperately in need of an update. Dwarfs too, tbh, I think a new dwarf army book will be really unpopular, they are gonna lose most of the flexibility in their magic items, getting brought down to 8 items like everyone else probably. Plus their warmachines will become much more expensive if ONG and empire are any guide.

We and brets probably need it most, but lizzys could do with it too, and both high elves and dark elves could do with toning down a touch.

@ seneschal, I hadn't heard that one off the dark general, must have slipped me by, yeah, he is usually a reliable source.

I don't get way GW can't release all army books at the same time, or at least within 1 year. If you ask anybody at GW, those idiots start talking about something else. (I use to work for them, so I can call names)

Both the rumours guys from Warseer have suggested that fantasy wise at least it will be DE and WoC (with WoC first) before Dwarfs. It's also been mentioned that HE are in the pipeline (probably to get rid of SoA.

With only like, 3 codex/army book writers, obviously some are going to be finished before the others- is it fair to make VC players wait a year for Wood Elves to be ready when the VC book is sitting all finished in crates ready to go? Delaying the VC release to be at the same time as Wood Elves won't make the wood elf book come out any earlier, it'll just make more players have to suffer the long wait.

WE and Bret players do seem to be around the place, but not nearly as many as other races. I can't believe GW would kill them off completely, though... I mean Necrons almost had to wait as long as they were put into stasis in the fluff to get a new book, but it came eventually. Perhaps the Brets and Wood Elves are going to have to settle down for a long sleep whilst more popular (read: profitable) armies are incessantly updated?

I do hope they get books. I've always had a gentle soft spot for Wood Elves, and even started a little collection many years ago. I might even start again...

Im mostly ambivalent about wood elves. Used to love wardancers back in the day, the rest I am fairly meh about. Elf archers living in trees.... *yawn*

If I can make an army purely of Wardancers, sure, I'd love them.

I always preferred wild riders to wardancers, but they're both cool compared to the load of dull that is the rest of the book.

Hey Games-Workshop, can you say 'Lord of the Rings'?
