Thoughts?

The vampire is unhittable in CC by ws4 or less, 6's by everything else- spells and magic items/ modifiers not included?
Seems solid.
Str 5 Vamp with 4+ armor and 5+ ward are a bit worrysome, though.
Dispelled miasma spells big problems for that shadow vamp. 248 pt ASL vamp with 6+ armor????:O Shame you can't squeeze the DBG on him. I k now he's got 5+ regen, but...

I see this list having issues with a few armies. If the dragon goes down, your own real damage potential lies with the hero vamps. Against heavily armored foes, you may have some problems getting their defenses.

Ogre blade and knight skill on The Lord and fencer blades on a vamp with ots...... I got two 3k coming up and I know the second one is going to be a zombie dragon.... The chick on the carmine dragon is just to good not to be in a list

Dual Engine and not a single Crypt Horror :O blasphemy! I agree with above though, you dont really have much in the killing apartment apart from your characters. I also dont like the thought of having a general at 2500 pts without a 4+ ward. Im guessing your WK is a BSB and that you just havent typed it out? I would also prefer having the Glittering Scales on the VL.

Wight king is not a bsb just more of a beat stick. And dreadknight means i must challenge which conpletely negates the reason for the direwolves and varghiest champs. I have faith in chadow magic.

I made a few changes to this list (put both Vampires on Shadow and swapped the Mortis Engine for a varghulf and three more bats) and got some games in with it these past few days Three very solid victories against WoC, Beastmen and Chaos Dwarves.

I'm not to keen on the charmed shield. Everyone and their mother will fire 10 archers at it first. I'd go for 4+ ward, but it's not a clear cut anyway. I'd also definately use Crypt Horrors, they're basically canonball cathers. Although you can use your Vargheists for the same purpose, yet it's more difficult (flying -> skirmishers -> fire between the holes). I don't think going without a fast moving BSB is clever here, seeing as a failed marching test will give your lord quite a few headaches. Have you though about fetching both Vamps a mount, dropping the Mortis Engine for Black Knights and going for a Bus? With 2-3 ASF vampires, you can tackle anything the Lord is scared of.

EDIT: Also, kudos on the dragons! Dragons are awesome, cool and beautiful :)

So I am new to Vamps but have a lot of experience with a HE Star Dragon build. At 2500pts I was running:

Prince on Star Dragon + GW, 2+ AS, Vambraces of Defence(4++ and reroll AS), Talis. of Loec
Noble BSB on eagle + S.Might, Dragon Armour, shield, Helm of Fortune
Level 2 Light Mage + Annulian Crystal
Level 2 Light Mage + Dispel Scroll, Ironcurse Icon

28 Seaguard + command, shields, Flaming Banner
21 Archers + mus

25 White Lions + command, Am.Light, +1 Movement Banner
7 Sword Masters + command, Skeinsliver, Gleaming Pennant

2 x Eagles

The idea was to be as quick and mobile as possible such that the dragon and BSB (& White Lions to a lesser degree) can provide a concentration of force at a single point at any given time. I don't know whether this concept would work with Vamps though due to the Ld bubble stuff the general needs to give to the troops.

Have you thought about going more mobile or making the list more of a monster mash? By this I mean you could include heroes on flyi8ng mounts or with fly and then include TGs and Vargheists. Your core would then switch to focus on wolves and maybe even zombies as a means of setting up the combo charges you want.

As an aside, I think the 4++ on the Lord is almost mandatory when on a dragon. They both need to survive for the unit to be effective and with Vamps this is doubly true. A single cannonball can ruin your day big-time here. If you change the list up I think this has to come in. With the list you have, an idea might be to put in the Seed of Rebirth (IIRC this is cheap and gets you a starting 6++ from regen to buff up), flaming attacks then become a bigger problem though...

I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about the feasibility of the more mobile monster build. The main issue with it that I can see is the need for the Ld of the general near the troops but with my lack of experience with Vamps, I'm not sure how big of a problem this is.

Mobility paired with survivability I believe will be the new VC build that emerges.
VC can put chaff out with the best of 'em, by sacrificing a few points here and there, it let's our heavy hitters get the game winning points, while avoiding trouble with our mobility.

My VC runs super mobile nowadays. Abyssal Lord, Tbat, Vargs, and a Varghulf all on one flank. It's been unreal how fast that formation can end a game. I'm seeing Turn 3 victories left and right lately.
