Zombie Dragon or Coven Throne

Okay, so both are fantastic model kits, both can only be taken in 2.5k pts+ and only really work easily in 3k+ pts and both have a similar pts cost.
So, comparison!
Zombie Dragon
-5 str 6 attacks (less attacks, more str)
-Thunderstomp (Coven Throne has Impact hits instead)
-fly (More Mobile)
-terror (Coven Throne has no terror)

-6 wounds and t6 (Tougher than Coven Throne)

Coven Throne
-2d6+4 s3/5 attacls (less str, more attacks)
-Impact Hits (Instead of Thunderstomp)
-Ethereal M8 (Less mobile)
-Is a chariot (Dangerous Terrain Risk)
-Battle of Wills (Useful debuff or even make enemy attack themselves_
-5 wounds at t5 (Not as tough as ZD)
-Vampire or Vampire Lord
-Scrying Pool (bound spell for re-rolls to hit or wound)
-Free Banshees and Necromancer in kit
-Boobs

So, the ZD costs more pts but is tougher, but doesnt have the built in ward save that the throne has. The dragon can move alot better, and has higher str attacks, but the coven throne can dish out alot more attacks and mess with the enemy in combat. The dragon gets thunderstomp, which is better than the thrones impact hits.

Thoughts? Ideas? I think im going to end up getting both- so which will I use in which kind of battles/lists?

Well, the only real downside the Coven throne gets because it's a chariot is the no-marching, because IIRC it has the 'Spectral Steeds' rule, giving it Ethereal movement. But anyway...

I really prefer the Dragon over the Coven throne simply because of the damage output. 2D6 attacks at S3 really doesn't cut it when compared to 5 attacks at S6. Plus, the ZD has the awesomely useful Cloud of Flies ability, subtracting 1 from the to-hit rolls of everybody in base contact with it. This means that, even with only WS4 (which is pathetic compared to other dragons), he'll still be hit by most RnF on 5+, and by most characters on 4+.

Flying is also incredibly useful because you're able to fly over top of your own troops, not just ignore terrain like Ethereals do. So, you could put the Dragonlord behind your battle line on turn 1 to provide his march bubble to as many guys as possible, then leap over top of them after everybody's moved.

My vote goes for the dragon. As for the boob thing it is nothing a bit of greenstuff can not fix! And then that dragon would really cause terror!

I personally don't like either of the models because they look like they are easy to break. I would go with a ZD because of personal preference.

When I think of mounting my lord, I think of what is most pleasing to look at rather than special rules. Though they both do have cool rules. Coven throne and mortis just seem very fragile. Nothing is worse to me than breaking a model and having to play with it at the same time, its a sorry eye sore. Plus, I'm superstitious, unpainted models and poorly painted models or models built poorly never roll well! So naturally, my beautiful GG kill everything they touch! 666 bitches

I find both models pleasing, and like them both, that is why I am looking at the special rules.
Also, the coven throne can also make enemies re-roll to hit or be at -1ws or make the enemy attack themselves, so that kind of balances with the cloud of flies.

Though I think for now I will stick with the dragon because I already have one

Depends on the game and meta-game. Dragon is pretty sweet, but if your shop oozes cannons, neither are super great, but the throne has the dragon beat handily because a 4++ is considerably better than only (lol) being T6.

Personally, it depends on the kit of the lord or hero riding it. Glittering scales + Z Dragon is pretty amusing, and while the lord is a lot tougher to hit on the Dragon in some respects, a lord with -1 leadership bubble *really* could lay the hurt on from the throne. Also, don't forget that its more than 2D6 s3 hits, which isn't super awesome, but it has a few vampire coven attacks (I believe 2-4 s5 ASF attacks). While you mentioned that the dragon has a thunderstop, it's not a simple trade over the throne. If you get hit / hit cav or MI, you don't get it, whereas you at least get Impact hits when you charge with the throne.

Personally, I feel the throne, despite being "less" mobile has considerably more survivability with Battle of Wills and, most importantly, a 4++ ward, and so my money is on the passion wagon.

I would go for the dragon. I like mobility.

Although Coven Throne looks good with Battle of the Wills and will work pretty well when engaging some kind of units.

Also, the coven throne moves like black knights, and ignores dangerous terrain.

On the other hand of mobility, the coven throne is perfectly cool marching straight up the middle, while the dragon pretty much screws the rest of you army unless you are playing a 4k+ points game.

We aren't an army where a general is designed to be mobile

Just a little side note: I do believe that the CT does not suffer from Dangerous Terrain eventhough it's a chariot, since its movement is Ethereal. But I could be wrong here

The throne wins it for me. In most cases the Zombie Dragon is going to be housing your general meaning that now more than ever you need to be shrewd with your deployment and subsequent movement of it. With the Coven Throne you can throw a Hero on it and still have your general separate. IF you do decide to mount your general on the Throne, you have a support unit thats going to basically mince through bog standard infantry and should be able to knock out a few elites too with the ASF attacks.

Overall, the Throne strikes me as having more utility and overall impact on the battle than the Dragon.
