Yes yes, it may not fit a Lahmian theme...

Anything fits if you hammer it hard enough.

love the 200 model zombie squad

i might get LOTS of them and see how wide i can make the unit:):zombie:

The unit could be 200 x 20mm = 4m wide. I don't think your movement tray would fit in your carry-case.

I don't understand why people want to have Zombies in Horde... They can't fight at all (believe me, even when buffed they are still so poor), so why to put them 10-wide? Your enemy can fit more models in the combat so Zombies are going to be killed very fast. If I want to tar-pit something, I'd go with Zombies in 5x5+ formation, it's waay better than Horde.

It might look cool though. :)

Interesting post, personally Zombies were the main reason I started collecting VC in the first place. Having always been a die hard Zombie film fan , who wouldn't wanna have a uber shambling horde of freshly dead flesh sacks. I have 70 now stuck together and I am gonna see how I get on fielding them all. I was at firs thinking one monster unit 7 deep 10 wide, but having read your wise words and got over my childish whims, I will probably now take two units of 35, 5 wide by 7 deep. I will however be taking two units of 40 skeles, in ranks of 10 wide by 4 deep, its gonna be bone-tastic. Got some new Mantic skeles and they mix in wickedly with GW, if you use GW spears as the mantic ones look like cocktail sticks.

Zombies will never be amazing but I love the little goobers to much to not use them :D Plus I love raising zombie hordes to screw with people. Isn't that what VC are all about? Oh I strained on painting 100 of the boogers so I'm gona use em damn it.

Hmm. Much as I'd love to include a zombie horde, I think they'd be whuppaad pretty fast. As many folks have said, our ability to resurrect casualties in sufficient quantities to sustain units is pretty much gone. With step-up, horde, monstrous infantry, thunderstomp etc etc, plus the new magic system, 100 zombies could vanish in two turns. That said, the psychological impact against certain opponents could be interesting. Bah, I'm just trying to vainly justify using them. I might test a unit of 60 for a game or two and see if there isn't some combo I could use to make them worthwhile. It just seems natural, to use a horde of zombies...

Zombies are not a unit to base your strategy upon, but they are cheap and their raise is D6+4 so I believe that with a bit of support they could delay a core enemy unit.

Let's look at it this way.

Yes, Zombies are pitiful.

but, with a bit of Magical support, you can make your opponents just as bad.

Default spell from Shadows + Any Augment spell = something completely different than Zombies.

Empire Troop: -D3 WS, BS, I, M (Or all of them if you power it)
+ An Augment (Pha's Protection, Speed of Light)
= Something that zombies can stand against.

Empire state troop under the powered effect of the Miasma is crappy. Average of -2 per stat, they'd look like this:
2-1-1-3-3-1-1-1-7
Zombies aren't that far off!
4-1-0-2-2-1-1-1-2

Mmm, hitting simultaneously with Zombies. Not a good day for the Empire.

In the above example, there are several factors to take into account. Which Buff? Did they fail Fear? Is there a Corpse Cart nearby? The Helm? Is it worth it to expend the resources on this unit?

Here's the synopsis for each buff.

Pha's: -1 to Hit. This means they need 5's to hit Zombies. You heard that right, they need -5's-. That should make em survive a round or two, eh? (Also, as a replacement for magic, use the Helm with a Lord. Same effect with the above hex + Augment in play, or you could use both and make it 6's to hit....)
Speed of Light: Zombies now get hit on fives. But, they strike really, really first! This could definitely help them hold a turn or two.

With even half of the equation in effect, you can still tarpit like the good 'Ole days. And if you get multiple buffs, or you buff something even better than zombies (Hah, right?) then the magical side of the battle will really, really help you out.

That was my two cents on how to make Zombies awesome. usable.
