I like number 2, it's the riskier list as you could get bogged down easier. I'd try and work those hexies or Vargs in there as a multi tool for chaff clearing.

Also you have to have a lord in your death star but he can't be your general? And you still have to obey ld priority for your general? A GK on TG is a good way to get that scream into your list. Write it up and we'll be able to see the lists strengths and weaknesses better.

What mount is your VL on? In regards to the rest of your army, a big standard MN general with preservation and skeleton/zombie/dire wolf combo should fill the requirements, any leftover points need to be on faster units like black knights or Hexwraiths to allow for some target saturation...

I like that one, although 18 ghouls won't really do much.. I'd swap them for some skeleton archers for your necromancer to sit in. Then you can drop the zombie horde and get more skeleton warriors, this allows you to maximise the benefit of your master of the dead upgrade.. If you're taking it...

I feel like you've gone too far the other way. I liked the other lists flavour.. I would have dropped the black knights for Hexwraiths and put the necro in the archers, any spare points go towards more grave guard. But that's just me.

It's more of a thematic choice, who wants a master necro cowering in the back when you can have a lord in heavy armour astride a mighty undead beast throwing magic around like a boss.

I second the free company over state troops. I use mantic Z's but the other undead player I know mixes free company with GW Zeds and the effect is very nice.

Personally I'd either go for Black Knights or Grave Guard, never both. If you have loads if fast movers, take black knights because your grave guard will get left behind and be nothing more than a point sink. If you are mainly footslogging, go for Grave Guard because your Black Knights will get...
