Current Tomb Kings book, page 57: "Arkhan was reborn as the Liche King - the first of Nagash's nine Dark Lords. These fell beings were the foremost of Nagash's captains, and they brought despair and destruction to his foes."
Mannfred wasn't around back then, so he's not one of the nine - unless...
This is the best motto ever.
I periodically consider building one, because it would be awesome, but I can't figure out what to do with it (apart from dying cackling). It's certainly fluffy for Necrarchs, but I'm not sure you want your Necrarch riding around on something that wants to be in...
Eh, all I know is, every army book that mentions the Dark Lords of Nagash says they were his trusted generals and acolytes from back in the day, and that they're still around. The only individuals specifically named as being Dark Lords of Nagash in an army book are Arkhan and Krell.
I haven't...
Krell was a chaos champion originally, but Nagash raised him and put him in charge of a legion when he was attacking the Empire. It eventually took Sigmar himself to stop Krell. How does that not fit?
Every other reference I've been able to find in the old army books gives their number as nine, when a number is given. Arkhan is always described as the first, and they're always his most trusted captains and disciples, presumably from the time from the Great Ritual until Nagash lost his fight...
Unless they've rewritten the lore again, Vlad, Mannfred, and Neferata were not Dark Lords of Nagash, though I suppose it's possible they've been promoted.
In Warhammer Armies: Undead, it says, "Mightiest of the Wraiths are the Dark Lords of Nagash, those five fell beings who in ancient times...
Here's some zombies that I dedicated an unnecessary amount of time and green stuff to. They probably owe their existence entirely to Mad 'At, though if I were trying to keep up with him (I'm not) I think I'd need to build 30 more like this and then paint them all in plaid or something.
I got...
Yes, but the question here isn't whether or not GW are bad people. We know they're bad people. Remember that they not only thought Finecast was a good idea, they thought it would be a good idea to charge more for it, and when it was clearly an inferior product with a lot of problems, their...
My books also seem to have been printed in China. I checked the boxes from GW model kits that happened to be within arm's reach, and apparently my vargheists and my mortis engine were both made in the UK. My black knights, a box of skeletons, and boxes of Empire handgunners and flagellants were...
Everything here is so good.
What parts did you use for the wight king? (Also, I can't believe you green stuffed his arm. It looks perfect, but, um, if you have the kit, there are a couple coven throne bits with skeleton arms holding swords in that position.)
I would be very interested to know what the actual production costs for a model are. How much money goes into the design process? How much is the sculptor paid? (I hope they also make residuals off their work, but that's probably too much to ask.) How expensive is it to prepare the model for...
It's definitely really expensive. I haven't decided yet if, in my opinion, it's overpriced. I think I might need to see the model in person.
Another way to look at it is the dollars to points ratio. I don't have time to work it out right now, but I suspect when viewed that way, it's not a bad deal.
I've said this before: Nagash wants to kill the living, which would also kill anybody who happens to need to drink living blood in order to survive. Any vampire in their right mind should fight against Nagash.
They look good!
I'm guessing that you're using that green on everything to keep the models simple and quick to paint. I don't know if you ever go back and tinker with "finished" models (I do all the time), but maybe once your horde is a bit hordier, if you were to go back and add a secondary...
Master of the Black Arts, Black Periapt, and Channeling Staff with the Black Coach.
Aura of Dark Majesty, Fear Incarnate, the Screaming Banner, death magic for Doom & Darkness, sprinkle Beguile and/or screams to taste.
I feel like you could largely mitigate the problems with frenzy with a Wight King for Ld 9, a BSB for the reroll, or a Wight King BSB for both.
The unit's overall fragility and vulnerability to elves make me think that you always want to have the Nightshroud in them.
The Obsidian Amulet or...
