Greetings All.
I'm a long time 40K player who is using the new vampire book as an excuse to start playing fantasy - and people from my club pointed me to this rather sweet website i thought i might as well absorb your wisdom.
I'm not a complete newbie to the world of fantasy, but i will fully admit that i haven't yet say down and seriously played it but with the help of a few vets i have put together the following 2000 point list.
Reasons for the choices will follow after:
Lords
Vampire Lord: Master of the Black Arts, Walking Death, Summon Ghouls, Extra Magic Level, Sceptre De Noirot, Flayed Hauberk
Total: 345
Heroes
Vampire: Avatar of Death (Great Weapon), Flying Horror, Wristbands of Black Gold
Total: 180
Necromancer: Extra Spell (Van Hals), 2 Dispel Scrolls
Total: 120

Total: 40
Special
15 Grave Guard: Musician, Standard Bearer
Total: 198

Varghulf
Total: 175
Varghulf
Total: 175
The idea of the army is a solid core of ranked up units around the central vampire lord and grave guard supported by fast moving flanking units.
The Vampire Lord is built for magical support for the main block - he will sit in the grave guard unit. His main focus is summoning of zombies and generally being annoying in the magic phase.
The flying vampire i could be tempted to change for a scouting nike vampire, the idea of this guy is to get behind the lines and hunt warmachines and maybe summon some zombies
The Necromancers are scroll caddies who will aid in the summoning of units and hopefully some van hals - the spells options are subject to change.
The skeletons provide static combat res, might change em for more ghouls.
Ghouls: they do what they say on the tin - i really like them and i migth be tempted to add ghoulkin to my force to make best use of them.
Grave Guard: cheap and elite, now they can be raised through invocation they will provide static combat res and a bodyguard for the vampire lord.
Varghulf: awesome concept - supporting units and possible hold up units, gotta love that stat line with hatred.
Any Advice would be grand, no part of the list is considered sacred except i would like a magic based vampire lord, but tear the list apart if you have to.
Thanks in advance.
