Greetings All.

I'm a long time 40K player who is using the new vampire book as an excuse to start playing fantasy - and people from my club pointed me to this rather sweet website i thought i might as well absorb your wisdom.

I'm not a complete newbie to the world of fantasy, but i will fully admit that i haven't yet say down and seriously played it but with the help of a few vets i have put together the following 2000 point list.

Reasons for the choices will follow after:

Lords

Vampire Lord: Master of the Black Arts, Walking Death, Summon Ghouls, Extra Magic Level, Sceptre De Noirot, Flayed Hauberk
Total: 345

Heroes

Vampire: Avatar of Death (Great Weapon), Flying Horror, Wristbands of Black Gold
Total: 180

Necromancer: Extra Spell (Van Hals), 2 Dispel Scrolls
Total: 120

20 Skeletons: Standard and Musician
Total: 172

15 Ghouls
Total: 120

Corpse Cart: Lodestone

Total: 40

Special

15 Grave Guard: Musician, Standard Bearer
Total: 198

Rare

Varghulf
Total: 175

Varghulf
Total: 175

The idea of the army is a solid core of ranked up units around the central vampire lord and grave guard supported by fast moving flanking units.

The Vampire Lord is built for magical support for the main block - he will sit in the grave guard unit. His main focus is summoning of zombies and generally being annoying in the magic phase.

The flying vampire i could be tempted to change for a scouting nike vampire, the idea of this guy is to get behind the lines and hunt warmachines and maybe summon some zombies

The Necromancers are scroll caddies who will aid in the summoning of units and hopefully some van hals - the spells options are subject to change.

The skeletons provide static combat res, might change em for more ghouls.

Ghouls: they do what they say on the tin - i really like them and i migth be tempted to add ghoulkin to my force to make best use of them.

Grave Guard: cheap and elite, now they can be raised through invocation they will provide static combat res and a bodyguard for the vampire lord.

Varghulf: awesome concept - supporting units and possible hold up units, gotta love that stat line with hatred.

Any Advice would be grand, no part of the list is considered sacred except i would like a magic based vampire lord, but tear the list apart if you have to.

Thanks in advance.

A Scouting war-machine hunter with Hunter in the Dark, Infinite Hatred, Armour of Night and the Sceptre de Noirot ought to serve you well: he'll butcher war machine crews, he's hard to hit with conventional firepower (just watch out for cannons and anything with a template), he can potentially raise two new units of up to ten Zombies per turn...

As far as flying vampires go, I personally favour the Hellsteed as a means of getting them airborne: it doesn't take up any Vampire Power points and also adds a S4 attack and a point of Armour Save.

Yeah, Ghoulkin is only useful for armies using ONLY Ghouls or armies using one unit. Either your whole army bounds forward or your one unit gets a head start.

As for the list.. me likes! It's a proper VC list.

I'd keep flying as it wil allow you to charge OVER units to get to those XXX-artillery units on hills.

Thank you all for your helpful comments, and i have rethought my army after looking at yourmumrang interesting flying circus army.

i'm thinking of changing my army to include a scouting zombie master with the sceptre and making the army more speed focused, with ghouls and black knights.

i was thinking of this lord to lead it:

Vampire Lord: Red Fury, Dread Knight (gives him the steed), Dread Lance, book of arkhan

leading a unit of black knights.

OR

keep my lord as he currently stands as a magic based and base mya rmy around that again, just with ghoulkin and black knights. A vampire with a hand of dust strikes me as a worthy addition.

any tips?

Will post an army list once i've explored the forums a bit more.

I think there are two main ways to go with the new VC and be competetive.

One is the summonig horde and the other is a speed list.

I really liked your original list but would swap the Ghouls for Zombies (let's face it, they look LOADS better!). The Sceptrescout is really good. I would use him in your horde army because of the awesome disruption he can perform. Raise Zombies then use the Book to Danse them into CC.

Then your large horde advances whilst the Vargulf protect the flanks. I'd look into perhaps having your Vamp Lord be a specified caster with the Helm of Command, making those GG do more damage than he could ever do alone!

Hand of Dust is good but always keep it as a suprise because you WANT it to go through.

ok, its been awhile but its time to return this thread back from the dead (pun intended).

I've put together a fast vampire army for you to view at your leasure and give tips upon.

Vampire Lord: Master of the black arts, Dark Acolyte, Avatar of Death, Sceptre de Noirot, Flayed Hauberk and 2 power stones
Total: 395
Vampire: Hunter of the Dark, Ghoulkin, Tailsmen of the Lycni, 2 power stones
Total:200
Necromancer: Extra Spell, 2 dispel scrolls
Total: 120
Necromancer: Extra Spell, book of arkham
Total:105

15 Ghouls

Black Knights: Musician, Standard with Banner of the Barrows
Total: 189

Varghulf

Idea is a fast army based around magic, the corpse carts will act as mounts for the necromancers. The magic phase is around raising zombies, alot of zombies and basically being annoying with the vampire lore.

any comments?
