Hi, I would like to hear comments about this list. I'm going to try it today against a dwarf gunline.

Lords (25%)
Vampire lord + forbidden lore (death) + master of black arts + Black Periapt + Helm of Commandement. 335 pts.
Vampire lord + forbidden lore (death) + master of black arts. 290 pts.

Heroes (17.2%)
Vampire, forbidden lore (death) + power scroll + talysman of the lycni. 180 pts.
Necromancer (vanhell's). 55 pts.
Wight king BSB + great weapon. 110 pts.
Wight king + great weapon. 85 pts.

Mandatory core (26.2%)
25 ghouls with champ. 208 pts.
12 ghouls. 96 pts.
11 ghouls. 88 pts.
26 skelletons + spear + full command. 263 pts.

Other core (4%)
Corpse cart + unholy lodestone. 100 pts.

Special (20.4%)
25 grave guard + two handed weapons + full command + royal standard of strigos. 390 pts.
6 fell bats. 120 pts.

Rare (7%)
Varghulf. 175 pts.

The main plan is to use the min ghouls units as bunkers for the necromancer and the lords, thos units are going to be deployed just behind the two big blocks of core. I think the grave guard can go by themselves, so the two wight kings are going to be on the skelleton unit. The powerbomb vampire is going to be on the main ghoul unit.

So the idea is try to kill the anvil as soon as possible with the spirit leech spell, casting it twice, one with each lord. If I recall correctly the rune lords had LD 9, so it can be possible to do it. My only question about this is... the anvil gave it a 4+ ward save against magic? I think it was only against shooting, but i'm not sure.

Anyway, I'm going to have +5 power dice on my magic phase, so the plan is use one dice from the pool and two from the vampiric power for each extended spirit leech (because both lords are only lvl 2), and the rest of the pool divide amongst the corspse cart ASF bound spell and the inevitable invocations to refill my units. Wheen the time is good keep 6 dice for the purple sun with the powerbomb vampire.

The bats are going to try to hunt the organ guns, but i found that with random charge movement, it's very difficult thing to achieve. Same role for the varghulf.

Any suggestions or comments?

Remember that each wizard can cast each of his spells only once per turn; so that Spirit Leech can only be cast once per lord. Same for IoN; we cannot spam-raise our troops with only one caster, since IoN can be cast only once per turn per caster (p. 37 BRB) :(

Well, you are betting a lot on the fact that your magic works. When you throw very low on the winds of magic, then it wont be so spectacular. Still, you could have a fantastic magic phase aswell.

Apart from magic and the grave guards, you really dont have anything hitty in the list. That might pose a problem. But I see what you are trying to do here and wish you the best of luck! xD

Be sure to let us know how you did.

Our armybook says that we can spam IoN and those rules take precedence (sp?) so no problems there. Right about the spirit leech though.

I'm aware of only one cast per non necromantic spell, that's why I want to use 2 lords, in that way I can cast spirit leech twice on the magic phase. I tried to say it's twice because I have two lords, but I guess I failed to express that (shame on me  )

I'll fix that sentence.

Well I misunderstood too :innocent: And you're absolutely right about necromantic spells Mikael; thanks for the correction (I prefer making the mistake here than on the battlefield) ;)

Hi,

I like the list a lot and it contains some of the ideas I have been toying around with myself. Now that I come to think of it, the double MotBA with the Dual Lords is quite nasty. For instance, you roll a six for WoM, you're opponent will be battling your 10 PD (+ channelling) with three dice. That's one spell dispelled, one scrolled and a three dice to go!

A thought, I have seen the bomb-vampire tactic banned in the Finnish tourny environment straight up (no power scrolls allowed), a good trick to have that one "killer" magic phase pretty early on would be to use a Necro with the +D6 PD but take D3 wounds staff from the BrB. If you roll quite low on the WoM early on, say a three or four, the opponent would be stranded with two dice and you would have 4 (WoM) + 1 (average channeling) + 4 (MotBA) + D6 ("that staff). Leading you to quite easily have 12 dice to play with against almost none. It would allow for a purple sun or a couple of well placed leaches killing of enemy characters. And in addition, a successful Sun would potentially gather enough extra powerdice to cast it again with the second lord. Nasty stuff...

In what units will the lords be? I guess you want to be on the front lines to cast the Sun, which could leave them quite vulnerable (if the enemy reaches them at all, that is xD).

My plan is to use the lords for character assesination and support of the main blocks (with healing and lowering the leadership of my oponents), so I'm going to put them on the ghoul bunkers. I think that I'm only try to cast the purple sun once and with the suicidal vampire.

I need to try this and check if it work.

I've been reading up on the dwarves, and the Advil gives a 4+ ward vs ranged and magic ranged, and a 6+ ward in CC.

I've been considering if I'd go Death or Shadows with my FL vamps, and I've decided to go Shadows because Artillery automatically fail initiative tests.

Each successful cast of Pit has a 50% chance of wiping out the entire Advil unit, and a 1/6 shot (if that fails) of taking out the Runescaper, so you don't have to worry about it anyways. So each casting has a 66% chance of wrecking the Advil.

With Death you're fighting agaist one of the Dwarven strong points - Leadership. The whole army is 9's and 10's.

58% ;)

In fact, the Caress of Laniph uses Strength (not too good with dwarves) and the Fate of Bjuna uses Toughness (admittedly Dwarf strong point) and the Sun uses Initiative (bad for the dwarves).

In fact, casting the Purple Sun of Xereus with the small template is 15+, compared to 14+ for the Pit of Shades - so not a big difference actually - plus you'll be able to hurt other stuff along the way and buff your PD's while doing so!

I think that Forbidden Lore allows you to have those spells several time per army if you actually take the Lore of Death twice. I think that the rule you are talking about only considers the dice rolls when you normally choose your spells. Correct me if I am wrong :)

However, I agree with you Fallen Angel; I wouldn't take the same lore with all characters, or at least, not with the two lords (ok though for the Vampire using Apocalyptic Purple Sun of Massive Destruction xD ). I would prefer having a wide range of spells.

A big thing here is to have two goes at the potentially game winning character assassinations here, as well as the potential to throw the sun twice. I mean its all a matter of tweaking to see what fits best with your particular list.
