Why does it always have to spiders?...
Why couldn't it of been follow the butterflys? ;)

Great work so far mate, have you considered reposing any of them around some scenic basing such as crawling over walls from the garden of Morrs set and similar things?
Nothing says creepy like scuttling down a horizontal surface does. ;)

Awesome work, really love how you are mixing a range of models to make your army unique.

How big are the bat swarms compared to the zombies?

Thanks for the great reactions everyone! I thought about putting the spiders around some fences, but unfortunately I don't have any that would be suitable. I really wanted to make some pictures of the bat swarms that are now painted and the skeleton unit, but the lighting sucks too much. I tend to make them with sunlight as light source, but now autumn is in full swing the light turned really yellow, making for blurry pics or awfully washed out details. I have a lightbox coming in two weeks though!

The two masquerade bat swarms are really tiny. The way I posed them the top of them is a little lower than the head of a zombie, and the reaper swarm in the middle is larger. Once I can make better pics again I'll post a comparison!

I wanted to update this log earlier. I got a nice lightbox at St. Nicholas (dec. 5), but then Christmas was at the door already and the usual family gatherings and painting up christmas presents for a bunch of friends took up most of my time. I've been fiddling with the lightbox a lot to get good, sharp pictures. The photo's are slowly getting there now, so I decided to post a long-needed update!

I finished the second unit of Skeleton warriors. These guys have been given shields and a command group.

The bat swarms are also done. They were really nice to paint, but very, very tiny. I had a pretty hard time seeing all the detail. The second picture shows the scale of the bats (masquerade left and right, reaper in the middle) compared to a skeleton and a zombie.

I got a wight on horseback done as well. I learned from Melle that he was originally part of a metal skeleton cavalry set. His shield was missing. I replaced it with a shield from the Dark Elf dark rider set.

Then there are some of the Dire Spiders, painted and based. The unit isn't quite finished yet, but I think they turned out very nice and a lot like the idea I had for them.

Most of my undead painting time however is allotted to a pretty big project, the Corpse Cart. I had no idea the kit was so fiddly and detailed to paint! I've been working on it for over a month and it's still a WIP. I'm currently painting the last two zombies that pull it up, and then it's time for some of the tiny decorations and the driver.

Thank you!

It's update time again! The Corpse Cart took a long while to paint. It had a lot more fiddly bits and details than I initially thought. Getting every little piece in focus was even harder

There's also the first five Dire Spiders and a Necromancer on horse. I thought his normal horse was boring so I gave it a old Bretonnian head which I painted as a grail filled with blood. The tail is sculpted since I was out of horse tails

I have a few WIPS too. A unit of 12 archers put together from two lots of bitz I got, some Bretonnian peasant helms and an Empire pistolier helm for the champion. The standard bearer is literally a skeletal standard put in some rocks with a small banner.

Also a little beginning of a Mordheim Warband, made from zombies from said bitz lots, a ghoul from there and some stuff from my own bitz boxes. They are led by an old mordheim vampire model and a necromancer.

There's not too much new this month, but I did manage to get a few things painted.

A little reaper bones model that counts as Banshee:

The first of 15 (!) Black Knights. I picked up the group of them for less than 10 euro's. They were missing their shiels and spears but not long after I found an ebay lot full of skeleton bits and arms  He's nothing too special, painted just like the mounted wight king in green and rusted metal. I didn't want to make him too elaborate since he'll be in a fairly big unit.

Some more reaper, this time three spider swarms I sculpted a bit of a scenic base around. The little bone familiar opened an old grave and sends forth the bone spiders within to skitter over his enemies.

Then there's a little WIP of an Abyssal Terror. I sorta have the colour where I want it to be after washing, and now it's time for details and highlighting up to bone. The membrane of his wings will be the same terracotta brown colour as the bats.

Well. Looks like I haven't updated this one in year. Time to change that and start posting everything undead I did in that time (believe me, it's quite a bit.) I replaced some of the older photo's in my earlier posts with new ones I took in a good lightbox. I painted up a good chunk of the things I had laying around and bought myself a large oldschool 4th/5th edition undead army to boot. Those models have mostly been stripped now and a few have been finished as well.

Let's start with the Abyssal Terror. While his rider isn't finished yet, the beast itself is.

And it's not just him out there, it's his little brother too! This one's from the 5th edition I think and he's tiny, so I decided his rider had to be tiny too. The girl is a very old pre-slotta Citadel mini (Helen, lawful adventuress) and I see her as a child vampire, guarded by her trusty mount. I want to come back a bit to this model though as both the beast and the girl look quite alive. Perhaps adding a few more green glazes and some blood could help.

Two more banshees joined the fray as well.

Two oldschool chariots. The skeletons have been given a banner to add a sprinkle of green.

Isabella von Carstein has also joined the cause.

I made two pieces of terrain themed around this army. The first is a sacrificial altar. I made from a reaper bones 'Altar of Evil' and a spare base I got from a bits-kit that once belonged to a casket of souls.

mpOBajYl.png

The second one is a cheap halloween decoration turned into a pillar of bone. I took the reaper spirits off their base as they did not fit as well with my banshees as I had hoped. Instead, I placed them on the pillar as if they are being summoned by it.

AvSf9OFl.png

Then there's my Varghulf. He took quite a while to convert and paint. He's made from a spare Abyssal Terror body that came without wings. I replaced the terror head with that of a dire wolf, removed the forearms and turned his legs the other way around. His wings come from a vargheist. I'm pretty happy with how he turned out: a twisted bat-like monstrosity that's clearly different from both abyssal terrors. His base is a painted up resin cast.

For my crypt horrors I took an idea from the excellent Orlaster and his gergeous Custodians of Carceri. I call them my Cryptlords: giant bloated warrior kings of old, now mindlessly shambling forth over the battlefield to smash everything and everyone in their way. This is the first one I've finished painting. The others are mostly finished and ready to paint, and a few are still in the last stages of converting.

A few more Mordheim zombies then! I'm going to switch their bases eventually, but I still need to order one of those fancy GreenStuffWorld cobblestone rollers for that. The warband is a bit on hold for now.

This guy is painted in the colours of my boyfriends Empire army.

Meanwhile, this guy's one of my Bretonnians, dead and raised.

That black coach is splendid, the colour choice is great. Did you paint the vampire in the coffin and are there pictures?

@Angie I am honoured that you think so highly of my stuff. Like, I really am. :D Your plog is great! I love the way you've kept so many really classic minis and I really like the colour scheme you've got going on. Also, I'm really digging the look of your zombies. Normally I don't really like GW zombie models but yours, I like.

Also, needless to say, your blightking conversion is smashing. The pale skin goes really well with the blood. How did you get that gore effect? Because they fit on the 40mm bases, it does make sense to use them as crypt horrors, doesn't it? Ooooh I'm getting all itchy fingered now. I've got some horrors lurking around somewhere I need to get finished. Nice stuff. Really nice.

Wow, what an update!

Loving the first of the Abyssal Terrors especially. A very gritty feel to that paintjob, suitably creepy. Also quite like your Isabella. Those old minis certainly have a charm, she is certainly looking quite regal.

The terrain pieces are great, especially impressed with the skeleton hand one. Great idea to use Halloween stuff, must remember that one :D

Nice thinking on the Black Coach also ;)
I too switched out the horses on mine, it really is an effective conversion. Nice work with the freehand on said horses too. I was considering doing something like that but couldn't figure out what to paint.

I like to see plogs come back to life xD I took some time to look through your older posts and not only the army itself is impressive, but your progress is visible too! Orange eyed zombies are really creepy and using different bats as a swarm really made them something unique - normally it's difficult to get them to look random enough, but you did a fine job there :) Bone spiders are also a cool thing to have ;)

From the newer things, I also really like the first Terror - pale, sickly and rotten! Makes me feel regret about selling my own one very long time ago ;) Your converted Terror is also very inspiring, makes me wonder about all the unused wings hidden in a drawer somewhere. Zombie conversions are also very good, especially the last one with the helmet and a broken shield

Also, quite an interesting direction with the lively green! Quite unusual! Reminds me of @Mioum 's army, but your is still much more lively and creates an interesting contrast with the fact that they are all undead xD
