Thanks mate, I will try and get some more up but with my uni schedule of late, it has been quite difficult to get around to building my models let alone paint them. Within the next few weeks I hope to start focussing on the painting side

Those images are both fantastically done, and yes, I am not near the level of the majority of painters on CMON. While I whole heartedly accept criticism both constructive and not, I am not sure I have ever bragged about my skills or mentioned how 'pr0' I was. If you could direct my attention to the post in question I would be very happy to modify the language I used to portray that image as in my honest opinion I am still a beginner painter. Just because I have gone to the effort of making my work area in my house accessible by no means implies that I am a professional by any means.

Thank you for taking an interest in my modelling log and I encourage you to freely express your opinions for and against, just like anyone else.

Those Eldars is looking sweet, not a massive fan of the colour scheme, but the painting standard is a little above mine

Mike72: I have not encountered lillilllliililllil bragging about his Pr0 level or his technical ability in any of his posts. I have not had the feeling that was his meaning in any of his posts either.
In terms of technical ability, I agree he is not the best, I could probably equal some of his older models if I took a week over every model.

However, I feel it is perfectly legitimate to call his work fantastic, as the rhino you posted in comparison is of the standard that it could have a fair stab at winning a Golden Daemon trophy. As the vast majority of painters will never come near that standard in their lives I hardly feel that that is a fair comparison...

If you feel otherwise, I cordially invite you to make your own paintlog or thread in the Unholy masterpieces section so you can show the rest of us how to really paint models.

After all, the very definition of words like fantastic is almost always relative to your own level of ability. A Guardsman may see a Tactical Marine as a godly avatar of destruction, but that's not to say a real Avatar would think the same, after all...

EDIT: I don't know about you, but while that Mannfred is undoubtedly very nice, I feel that the armour is a little flat in comparison to some of lillilllliililllil's models. It's probably the quality of the photo though...

You can find scibor's tutorial on greenstuff here if you haven't seen it already. I hope it might be useful for anyone who wants to start getting into it.

I agree, the colours aren't the greatest and were chosen long before I had even heard of what colour theory was! I am still learning about colour theory and I hope to put into practice what I have researched so far.




Not much of an update today as I haven't had much time to myself this weekend. I did manage to start on the first 119 zombies :zombie:

That's a lot of zombies, have you considered an air-brush?
Or at the very least a spray gun?

Yep ! I have an airbrush. Not much of an idea of how to use it, but when it comes to this amount of models I am sure it will prove invaluable. I think I have 300 zombies all up and 160 skeletons so it is going to be of great use :ghost:

As far as bragging I have seen none and as a Mod I watch this stuff closely. I think his skill with the rhino was self evident and I look everyday to see what he has posted new. I love the fact he teases alot like I do with his posts. He is assembling a army possible to play with then painting it bit by bit. What is wrong with that.

Maybe I should do a week of nothing but assembling posts.

If he is good then don't be jealous of him but ask and learn so that you can prefect your own skill.

You can just put my workstation down to my obsessive habits. The zombies will be quite the challenge. I plan to use a lot of glazes to convey sunken eye sockets, ante-mortem brusing among other things and the Mantic zombies are amazing for that! I was thinking about this once again... while lying awake in bed :slapface:

After seeing your work space, I went out and bought a new shelving unit to organize all of my stuff. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited to step into my hobby room and get down to work.

Your abilities to sculpt green stuff is awesome. I'm quite jealous of that as I consider it one of my "weak spots" in my hobby. From the painting I've seen you do, you're quite skilled with the brush.

I look forward to seeing more of your progress!

I am glad I have inspired you to become organised. Heading into a hobby room that is organised and where everything is at your fingertips is a great feeling !

Sculpting is my worst area as well. I have no idea how people can just spend hours and hours building up layer upon layer.... oh wait... we do that with paint :slapface:

Anyway, it is still a different skill set that I wish to improve myself as well.


Small update:

I just finished my 119 zombies ! They are currently blu-tac'd to the mantic bases and all of them still have the mould lines o_o , but for now they should be okay to game with.

When I re-base them, I will clean up all mould lines and flash from the models.

Mix n' matched zombies. Buying the grave stalker sets instead of just the zombie horde was a good move on my part. There would have been a great deal more doubling up than there is now.

I also received my rubber steel sheets in the mail. These are self adhesive and will be placed on the bottom of the movement trays.

Polarity does not matter with these sheets as they are not magnetic themselves. I quickly stuck a magnet on the bottom of the zombie and suddenly he was climbing walls !

Now to work on more Grave Guard :grave:

I am very happy with the mantic zombies. GW ones never really appealed to me in the slightest. I am going to have to drill holes into the resin bases and put the magnets inside them. A prospect I am not overly eager to do :O


Update:

After assembling my zombies I thought I would have a break from more monotonous assembly and hit the characters and throw in 2x Necromancers, seeing as though I am going to have to use them anyway.

Now, the three models below are different levels of 'dirty' in my book. The top is Vlad straight out of the box. See how he is quite bright. The bottom left is a Mordheim necro. He has been previously painted and stripped back. Heinrich has never been painted, but has lived in a bitz box for more years that I care to admit. They are all dirty dirty models. :frown:

Why does it matter? You may ask. Well like anything in life, whatever you build must have a solid foundation to start with. I believe this also applies to painting and cleaning models. When you have a nice clean surface, the primer will stick to the surface allowing you to use a minimal amount. Contrary to popular belief, I believe a mini does not have to be 'completely white' for it to be primed. More on that later.

Another benefit of having a clean and sanded model is that paint will flow a lot better instead of pooling in crevices and cracks or getting caught in some of the mould release that makes Vlad look the way he does.

Here is a clean Heinrich.

Due to the bad lighting, I moved him here so you could see the difference.

Clean necro

To achieve this I used a brass wire brush and my Ozito drill as pictured in my hobby room photos.

I usually do this just prior to undercoating and will more than likely do it once more just before. I wanted to do this so that I can mount them on their resin bases right away without any danger of the brass wire brush eating into the base. When I do it the second time, I will cover the base as much as possible with masking tape.


If anyone wants to try this, I cannot stress the importance of saftey goggles and a mask of some kind. These little slivers of wire can embed in your face. Totally owchy :'(
