I will be watching this with interest as I will not be playing that much next year, but I will try to finish up painting my army. I like how detailed info you give about what you do.

You have quite a lot to do, when you pick up the brush. Can't wait to see some paint on these models. I bet they will look ace.

I am going to have to drill holes into the resin bases and put the magnets inside them. A propect I am not overly eager to do :O

I used adhesive magnetic foil (again no problems with polarity, foil attracts itself and metal all the same) - it's quite handy, especially with mantic bases which are fully filled - just cut it in the shape and apply it to the base, rather than drilling. With the GW bases though, which only have the small edge, you need to apply superglue on the edge as well to make it stick...so adding neodymium magnets to GW bases is a more practic option.

Well seeing as I have been talking about making a 1000pt list there just happens to be a local 1000pt campaign that will be starting on the 13th of May and ending on the 10th June. :|

Seeing as I am currently in the process of assembling my army I thought it would be a good idea to sign up and participate . It will also help motivate me to assemble my army by this date

Here are the rules:

#1 1000 points.
#2 No special (named) characters & no allies.
#3 Standard construction (p132-135 WHFB).
#4 The Judge will determine the battle type each round (everyone will play the same type of scenario in a given round).
#5 You must use the same list for the whole campaign.


Since this will be an all comers army for 1000pts, it is going to be a touch difficult. My friends are also participating so I know there will be:

1. Dwarves
2. Ogres
and possibly
3. Skaven

As for the rest of the contestants, I am not too sure but I do know it wont be massive ( less than 10 players at the LGS ).

Yeah, they sound like a much cleaner alternative than the magnets themselves. I wonder how strong their pull will be compared to a Neodymium magnet? I will definitely look them up !

I think a mixture of lists 1 and 2 would be the best.

For painting? I would have to agree

If I have a solid list, then the prize is a $50 gift voucher with $20 door prizes, which means more models to paint

I reckon, from a modelling point of veiw it would be coolest to go with list 3. Problem with that is you will loose every game you play

You just want to see my face after making 200+ zombies!

Recently I have been reading about how people have been having issues when taking photos and I just wanted to demonstrate the difference of lighting and backgrounds on a bare bones model. This way you can pay attention to the background and how it changes for the better or worse.

All photos were taken with my camera phone as I do not have access to anything remotely professional.

As you can see there can be quite the difference depending on the shadows, warm/cool/neutral background and warm/cool light source. The photos above are straight from my camera. The photos below have been edited in photoshop with auto levels. The first photo is straight from my camera as a comparison.

The pictures below have had their tone/colour and levels modified.

As you can see the neutral background with the cold light doesn't change much at all when edited out the wazoo. The warm background fluctuates wildly. Just by hitting Auto Levels/ Correct does not mean that it will come out how it should and can either improve or make your photos worse. Only you will know how close it is to its original state. People will manually go in and adjust the levels until it is close to the original state.

If anyone has issues like I do when taking photos, PS5 was available to me, but a program such as GIMP or Irfanview can do the job just as well when it comes to correcting these things.

It is entirely up to you if you want to experiment with this, I just thought I might provide some information that I have read online about how painters on CMON take their photos.

Well today has been interesting.

Anyway lets start off with Fell Bats!

I wasn't a fan of the plastic flying stand so I thought of a practical use for my Mantic tombstone ! The mould lines on the bat were a nightmare :O


The Ogre:

Now while I was working on my bats, I started to chat to my mate who will also be involved in the upcoming competition at the LGS. He was worried that he did not have a HQ choice and the LGS manager was not going to let him proxy anything. At the moment he could not afford to buy a butcher especially at GW's prices here in AUS.

I racked my brain for a bit and told him the old model I actually had was a beat up old Maneater Ninja that was missing half of the stuff that comes with him and someone had tried to convert the sword and it ended up being pinned at a horrible angle with huge gaps between the pins and the hand.... It was pretty shocking.


He mentioned that he really wanted to participate and that wouldn't do. I then asked what he intended to do with the Butcher. His answer: Fencer's blades.

Well that was it, I told him that I would sort it out and pulled out the greenstuff. How long has it been since I've used this? *shudder* anyway off to greenstuffing I went. Here is what I started with:

3 Hours later, here was the end result.

Even though I was unable to work on my Vamps as much as I would have liked to have, it was good to help a mate out so that we could game together. Now he has his butcher but I suppose he will have to stomach by horrible GS ability to use it :zombie:

The angle between the sword tang and the hand still looks a bit off, that could be perspective talking though. The apron isn't amazing, but it isn't half bad, the only problem I can see is it looks a little thick. Pretty nice though.

The bases are nice, however, I feel that not even your prodigious talents can save those models though...

More vamps next time please.

It clearly is, I can't sculpt for :silent: !

You are right with the angles and it irks me to no end. The previous owner was a haphazard pinner. The tsuka is bent off to a weird angle, there was a massive gap where the habaki, tsuba and fuchi were supposed to be, so imagine it with a pin on either side :slapface:

The pins were superglued in there well but the angles they were pinned it had obviously been re adjusted a few times so the paperclip was starting to give. I would have loved to have pulled it all apart and start again, but re drilling a pin out of a sword is my least favourite thing to do.

Adjusted it so it was a bit better unfortunately, from all perspectives it is slightly bent/twisted. Any further tinkering was gonna be bad.

I do feel the apron is a bit thick too. With any luck the way he paints it up will be able to hide it a bit Was a free job and only took me about 3 hours. Got to practice GS on something non-important


Ugh... Fell Bats... I have never seen them up close, yet I knew they weren't fantastic models. Utter disappointed upon opening them I must say.

I received my Victim for the Christmas in July event and started preparation for what I am going to do.

I will focus heavily on that when I receive the model in the mail. I expect great things to happen and to push myself that little bit further to see what I can accomplish !

Thus far I have plans to mount it on both a display base and a gaming base while still being under the $25 mark. It will come close though I am sure ! I have some ideas rattling around up there, but I suppose it will come together more once I have the mini in my hand.


Today I managed to complete the last of the Fell bats and the first 10 Grave Guard. Grave Guard are beautiful models but a headache to assemble the great weapons, let alone find suitable footing on the resin bases. I shudder at the thought that I have another 500 models that I need to mount on those resin bases o_o.

When your putting the minis on the resin bases it helps to make the footholds . Use a hobby knife or file just a trick I learned

Yep I did that. Had to carve out a lot of footholds so to speak. I was a good boy and wore my respirator the whole time too They are also pinned quite deep to the base itself. No danger of them coming off anytime soon

The biggest issue was trying to get them in some sense of order with extremely chaotic bases. The price of beauty I suppose

I have it down to a fine science now, so the rest of the models won't be so bad
