Oh I see, they're just selling little box sets and made special rules. They used to do that for the get starting sets back in earlier editions too.

Hrm. Can't even reinforce the zombies? And the cart doesn't get anything particularly heroic apart from the keyword? Honestly I'm not terribly impressed. I like the models for the cart and new zombies, so could be nice as a painting project, but I'm not sure it has much competitive relevance.
The only decent ones are the tzeentch, Orruk and sylvaneth RoR (and thanks god they can't be taken in their respective armies or they would be broken) The others are more flavorful rather than impactful (but a fun addition nonetheless

And the Tzeentch one needs a lot of precisions. (eg : can other wizard of the armies cast the Endless Spell, can you add other endless spells or these 3 take all the slots, etc)

I think it is okay, nothing amazing but it is a decent pinning piece as the unit has ward saves and an -1 to wound aura. It also adds antimagic capabilities to death armies that might not have good access to that. The biggest issue with this unit is the speed of the cart, but that is the same for the SBG cart. If you face a lot of nurgle then this unit looks quite alright.

Metawatch article went up this week on warcom.

Beast, lumineth & disciples on top and asking for a nerf not exactly surprising.

Notable death info: These results have Soulblight and Nighthaunt doing considerably worse in the new matched play season so far than I expected - not that nighthaunts are doing poorly, they're sitting pretty at around 50%, but if anything I expected them to be strong in the new season to the point of almost being a problem, especially Emerald Host who essentially get to kill d3 +1 of the enemies gallatian champions for free each game. I'm glad my expectation seems to be wrong, though, as it means we shouldn't be seeing any arbitrary nerfs to the faction, at least not beyond the relatively painful points increases they already got.

On the other hand, Flesh Eaters and OBR are doing considerably better than I expected, both sitting around 50% where I expected them to be doing a fair bit worse. That might honestly be a bad thing, though, as it might give GW the impression that both books are 'fine as is', leading them to get copy-paste 3e books when they both honestly need pretty hefty revision to properly fit in with 3e, obr especially.

The end of the article mentions that we'll see the next two battletomes announced this weekend. From the confirmed schedule the next two should both be chaos books, with two death books coming after that we'll still be waiting on announcements for

The big rumor pile says the chaos books should be Khorne & Slaanesh, and the only new models either will get will be a single fomo/pity hero. IF that happens it will be support for the accuracy of the rumors, but it won't be confirmation since if I had to guess what was coming next completely blindly that's what I would have guessed anyway. However, if that's not what happens - if one of the chaos books isn't khorne or slaanesh (unlikely as iirc those are the only two aos chaos factions not yet updated to 3rd edition tomes) or if either of them sees releases other than a single pity hero (or i guess if one of them doesn't even get that much), then that would be a pretty strong refutation of the rumor pile.

the rumor pile has good bits for death (FEC get a new dual kit in addition to the usual pity hero, soulblight get a 3rd edition update later in the year with a new dual kit that builds either grave guard or a new crossbones unit), but it also has bad bits (FEC still don't get any named heroes, don't get new plastic model for the dated resin varghulf, don't get models for the currently model-less courtiers; obr only get a pity hero - no archers, no monster, and the pity hero is another redundant mortisan - not even the infantry liege we currently lack), so we can spin both support for and refutation of the rumor pile as a good thing.

This time around I think it is important to take the meta watch with a big grain of salt as the data is not solidified yet.

I agree it was a surprise to see Soulblight doing so bad, but I think it is because people are playing them wrong and have to adapt to the new season. At the recent Grand Tournament I was at I saw most SBG players run the same lists they did in season 1, so lots of Blood Knights and Mannt and Neffy. That type of list will get bullied this season. But people adapt when they have gotten around to painting 120 zombies :)

Slaves to Darkness being in the bottom is also misguising. I assume the pool performance is do to a high influx of new inexperienced s2d players. There is no doubt that Slaves is a really strong army at the moment.

Gloomspite will also become a top tier army soon if they don't get significant points increases.

Regarding new releases they just showed that the chaos books are indeed Khorne and Slaanesh. I am super excited by Slaanesh because my girlfriend has just started Hedonites (as her first army).

articles up briefly going into what the gravelords & obr have been up in the "age of beasts". just lore stuff, no hints of rule changes. which might mean there aren't any to speak of, or they might be holding off for articles next week.

as for the lore, nothing unexpected. legions of blood & night locked in civil war, avengori & vykos empowered but pushed closer to edge of monstrosity by the current arcane climate in the realms. kastelai seem to just be doing their normal teleport raids.

on the obr side, some of the mortisan caste are going out of their way to incorporate bones "corrupted" by beast magic, resulting in strong but undisciplined soldiers, & katakros's attention is split between suppresding this heretical practice, holding the hard won 8-points territory, & maintaining control of the ossiarch empire in shyish with mortal vassal states starting to ruse up in rebellion.

still no hint of actual battletome changes if any.

the new vanguard boxes are... passable. Model-wise at least. Can't speak to the rules without knowing what is or isn't changing in the books. Though I'd have preferred not to see the vargheists there. Nice to have the separate release for the mounted wight king.

just a matter of waiting for leaks now. Apparently some stat lines from repackaging are coming in, and they don't look great. Not for obr at least. but without points costs or warscroll & allegiance abilities raw stat lines don't mean much yet.

Wuuhuuu! That was indeed quick! That is so great, I cannot wait to get my hands on that book and start pouring through the pages.

Really great they finally sell the Mounted Wight King alone. Now is my time to get it!
The Sun King, will you be making/updating the SBGL Handbook tactics, when the book releases? Im loving your existing one, it helped me a lot with getting to know the army, and I think this community deserves an update ;)

Hmmm I already have those soulblight black and red dice. But yes I agree that it's nice to have the Wight King mounted by itself I have not bought it yet.

Worth pointing out: based on the tokens that come with the OBR warscroll cards, the faction now just uses regular old command points - so we'll now likely have access to basic 3e commands including Redeploy and Forward to Victory. We'll still have some advantage compared to other factions in generating command points, based on there being several '3 command points' tokens.

That alone is a pretty significant update in terms of getting the faction to play nice with the 3rd edition core rules. Beyond that there are a handful of unfamiliar terms - enhanced clawspan, accelerated ossification, and ossified barbs. No idea what they do or what generates them. They could be related to the new hero, or something else.

There's also been a kavalos stat line leak based on new packaging:

1680630927830.webp

Compared to current stats, that's -2 movement to the core profile. Nadirite blade statline is unchanged. Nadirite spear is one worse to hit in exchange for one better rend. Steed attacks trade hit and wound values, for no net change in average output.

That's a slight nerf to the core profile, mostly in the movement speed. That said, they're still enough faster than morteks to fill a niche there, and imo their movement speed was maybe a bight high for an ossiarch unit previously.

Whether the unit overall is better or not will come down to warscroll rules, faction rules, and points cost, so too soon to really say. This is pretty much proof that we can't expect significant improvements to the faction's base line combat stats accross the board, which I know some were hoping for based on how much the faction previously relied on stacking command ability buffs to fight in line with their lore, something they're at least currently not allowed to do anymore in 3rd edition.

i like this warscroll in principle. its rules are clearer and cause fewer weird interactions than before.

but while clearer, it's no stronger, and certainly no more durable. what made the /old/ old nagash worth 900 points was reroll 2+ armor and faction synergies making him easy to heal. Current Nagash isn't worth anything close to 900 points, and this new nagash won't be worth that much either, so i hope this new scroll comes with triple digit points discount.

again, nothing against the scroll itself. i like it a lot. it's just not the scroll of a 900+ point unit.

The new Nagash warscroll is reaaaaally f'ing good!

He gained:
+2 wounds
+1" movement
Undegradeable +3 to cast and unbind
A 5+ Ward save for himself and ALL our units within 12" (this is crazy good!)
Invocation of Nagash now affects mordants
Supreme Lord of the Undead now straight up raises units to half strength on a 3+!!!!

He lost:
Gaze of Nagash as a ranged attack (it was not important)
Lost infinite Arcane Bolts (this is probably a good thing)

he also lost the 4+ ward vs. mortals, the bonus to other healing abilitied (good, that rule was a problem), and the +1 ward save CA (though the 5+ aura is better).

pointedly new nagash dishes out way fewer mortal wounds while being more vulnerable to them. his support abilities are better, but imo not enough to make up for how much of your army is given over to fielding him.

to be clear, i *like* this warscroll for nagash much better. i just feel very skeptical that 965 points is even within 100 points of the right price for him. but maybe i'm wrong, I'm not the best judge. people like nagash, they'll try to run him, we'll see how they do.
