Twilight....
It's a very moving movie. The protagonist, Bella, finds impossible love with a vampire who struggles with his insecurity about the fact tht he sparkles in the sunlight... And then she's torn between her newfound love and her child-hood friend who, unbeknownst to her, is in fact a werewolf... beautiful. makes me cry every time :'(

I am torn between my desire to purge you from the face of the earth for your heresy and forum rules...damn.

EDIT: Or are you being sarcastic i can't quite tell.

"struggles with his insecurity about the fact that he sparkles in the sunlight"

Yeah. That's sarcasm, there. Those are the sorts of noises a sarcastic person would make with their mouth - or rather in this case the sorts of glyphs a sarcastic person would invoke with their fingers. It has that feel to it of the kind of thing a person says when the words they are speaking are precisely the opposite of the thing they are using them to say.

Try saying those words out loud. The bitter tang you taste on your tongue is what they call "snark". Or possibly vomit. We cannot discount that possibility, given that Twilight was involved.

Ignoring Twitard tralalalalah
Anyway have already seen the classics mentioned but for those liking 30 days of night it's definitely worth checking out Stakeland. Where the remake of I am Legend failed this one delivers in terms of apocalyptic vamp invasion and even the supposedly good guys, a Christian cult that wants to save the world, aren't exactly helping.

I have over sixty DVDs of vamp movies ranging from the very first silent movie Nosferatu to Hammer to B flicks that are so horribly bad they are actually good in a cult flick way.

If you like weird check out Andy Warhol's Blood for Dracula. I love it and it even has Udo Kier in it as Dracula and Kier is one of the best Dracula's IMO. In here Dracula is a sad dying blood junkie that is in search of fresh virgin blood but virgins are hard to come by these modern times. Most people hate the movie but is nice and trashy cult.

did anyone mention van helsing and frightnight

lost boys has to be the best for me closely followed by 30 days of night

fav type of vampire is the 'big jaw' vampires by guillermo del toro in blade 3

Bitten (2008) was a pleasant surprise. I almost didn't watch it, because it looked overly campy. It was campy, but not overly. It's on Netflix streaming (or at least it was).

Shadow of the Vampire and Daybreakers were already mentioned but they were great.

Totally horrid awful and just horrid was a movie called "Ankle Biters" (2002). It was about midget vampires, amazing and everyone should watch it (if only to share the loss of brain cells that I have lost).

I like any of the hammer classics especially the ones with Christopher Lee but another one I really like that I don't think anybody mentioned is The Fearless Vampire Killers.

It's a 1967 film by Roman Polanski but for all intents and purposes it deserves to be a Hammer Film. There is just the right mix of fear and hokey that makes those movies so enjoyable to watch. The ending is unconventional for the genre and should make a VC player smile.

There is one scene involving a gathering of vampires at a ball. The image in the last two rulebooks of the vampire lord stepping on the neck of a rival before an assembly of his peers always reminds me of this movie.

Harland maybe you could write about your love for the Twilight movies in the description of your VAU character. I am sure you'll be the 1st character to be killed. You will be voted by all vampire players, but humans as well. Doesn't matter what you are  Even the host will vote for your "death"

To be honest, it's really Kristin Stewart's facial expressions that really win me over.

wait she does more then one expression? :O, all jokes aside, would anime count? if it does Blood: the last vampire a bit short but a solid story. hhhmmm Anke Biters hey? i might just watch it  .

Would also second 30 Days of Night, family screamed I laughed was priceless

Firstly, although it's likely been mentioned, little shout out for The Vampire Lovers. Vampires, occasional nudity, Ingrid Pitt, some surprisingly good acting, writing and storylines, it's got everything going for it!

Secondly, this is a great tutorial on how to be EXACTLY like Kristen Stewart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKKAVYI7vdU (do watch it, it's rather funny)

Interview with a Vampire-Pure movie gold-9/10
Daybreakers-Phenominal idea let down by the acting-7/10
The true blood sieries-awsome TV sieries-10/10

Got to add a newish one , Let The Right One In, the Scandinavian original is a superb modern Vampire tale. Not too heavy on the gore, but what there is comes so out of the blue...

Watched a pretty cool trailer the other night entitled
"Abraham Lincoln vampire hunter" looked quite cool pretty sure it was a Tim Burton film worth checking out

The Dark Shadows movie is based off of the original television series which inspired Mr. Depp to take up acting when he was a wee lad. However, it was a dramatic series while this new movie looks like a parody/comedy.

To my knowledge there's only been one trailer for Dark Shadows to show up, and I'm assuming that first one is the "comedy cut" trailer. I'd be surprised if it wasn't edited to show the majority of the slapstick type scenes the movie holds, with the intent of catching a wide range of people to see it in theater. My guess is the full feature length film will have it's "scary" bits, intense bits, the gamut.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter also looks very cool. Based on the book by Seth Grahame-Smith (who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies as well).

As far as vampire movies you don't have to own a time machine to see, a lot of the stand-out choices have already been mentioned, so I'll try to dig a little deeper:

From Dusk Til Dawn - Rodriguez/Tarantino style saloon vampires with lots of gunfights, quickfire dialogue, and Cheech Marin. Lots of fun, and vampire burlesque strippers.

Fright Night (2011) - The original has been mentioned, but the remake from last year was a oft-looked over gem in my opinion. Skip the first Act, really. Kid has school problems, why doesn't the girl like me, mom doesn't understand, blah blah. But when it kicks in, the film really was enjoyable. Stay tuned for David Tennant (of Dr. Who fame) as a not-so-fraudulent Las Vegas vampire slayer.

Vampire in Brooklyn - Are you ready for a jerry curl wearing Dracula? Probably not.

Blood And Donuts - For a, well, how do I say this and not completely turn you off?... It's a little hipstery, if you take my meaning. But it's honestly got a touching story and the quirkiness is endearing as well. Not exactly a horror film, per se.

Have fun!

White Skin - Canadian movie(in French) and not really what you expect but it has a hot redhead so I'm sold anyway. But seriously an interesting new take on women that suck blood. Not a real action movie and more drama/thriller but if you like the original Let the Right One In you probably like this one also.

Ha you beat me too it I was going to mention this one in all seriousnes of course! Love everybodys suggestions and agree on most. Love the Underwold series mostly because I have an infatuation with Kate Beckinsale. She can bite me anyday! :suck:
