Hey guys, I'm playing a game this weekend and there's a good chance there will be ogres. I was thinking using bat swarms to combo charge with the graveguard. It might be good as it will allow me to strike at the same time, before I lose like 20 gg to their attacks. Do you guys think it would be a good option? or waste of points? Given that I will likely not get the charge since ogres are faster than me. Also is it any good as a take all comers option?

It's actually better to take a charge from your opponent. That means there's only one round of combat before you get to heal in your Magic Phase. Though Impact Hits are a drag. But hopefully you've enough bodies and casters to weather it.

As to Bats, if you take them, keep them one wide to mitigate attacks on them. They'll die like chumps.

And they all cause fear and a buncha shit take a level 4 death caster for purple sun. Watch out for hellheart. Also Yhetees are fast as hell

ya I actually am taking a lvl 4 death caster. And Konrad :P aha it's a 2 vs 2 battle and I'm against dwarves and ogres. So I'll need all the advantages I can get. I also get a dwarf player which is nice as the ogre units hopefully won't be at full strength when they crash into me. I'm going to have konrad and a blender lord in with the grave guard so the bats may be overkill, but ogres are pretty tough in combat, especially if he has a fencers blades + glittering scales slaughter master in there that I haven't been able to assassinate with my master necro of death

Fear doesn't give up anything against us. Bring it on, scary fatties.
I meant that as in we don't cause fear in them because of it. Ya know, fear is kinda dumb in this game. Ogres and undead and lizards with their low-mediocre leadership cause fear and aren't affected by it, and then all the armies that would be are sitting at leadership 8+ (barring like skaven) to say "aha we aren't a afraid of anything." I don't really get that lol

I miss autobreak when you lost to a Fear causing unit that outnumbered you. Quality.
I think that terror should do that and fear should do what terror does. That'd make it a lot less useless. it's too easy as is to get stubborn or ITP, and the to hit chart is just retarded.

If you had a terror causing model and you outnumbered the enemy, then wraiths would get a nice "level up" bonus inside units (wraithwall spearskeles the new hot stuff)

remember ogres are natively only str 4, and sure they have a volume of attacks, but are hitting on 4s and wounding on 4s. That is, unless they are ironguts, in which case he strikes at the same time you do, and its hit on 4s wound on 2s, just like you. His only advantage at that point is stomps, and if you can take the banner of the barrows I think you can get out ahead of the damage from stomps. Plus if you can manage VHDM it will be even better.

EDIT: Points wise, I believe a standard ogre is ~ 38 points, which is a little more than the cost of 3 gg with great weapons. So he pays ~ 2 points for the stomp attack, which is cheap, but when you consider the gg are str 6, I think you win out even more. I just wouldn't let yourself get combo charged by more points than you have in GG. use spirit hosts to block/screen for yourself. Come to think of it, spirit hosts would be really good against most of the core ogre units.

They were really only good if you added the drakenof banner to them. I miss my horde of ghouls with wight king bsb and vamp lord in addition to my grave guard horde. Now that ghouls can't take regen they die pretty quick to most everything. That's one reason I want 8 pt ghouls back. I like 8th edition rules better. I just miss some aspects of our seventh edition army book.

True. But it's a lot more expensive than it used to be. Plus it's only a 5+ instead of a 4+.
After further thinking about it I don't think I'd be willing to give up crypt horrors to get it back. I love them way too much. Hahaha.
