So I read the thread that was started recently, and it asked "what is the most threatening thing in our army?"

This got me thinking, "what is the most threatening thing to our army?"

That question is a little too broad, so here's my revised question. But I ask this with the stipulation that I'm referring to ONE unit, model, monster, etc.

What have you found to be the most threatening "thing" from other warhammer armies?

As a follow up, do you have any counters to this thing?

Edit: As long as there is continuing discourse I'll try to keep what looks like the general opinion for each army up here at the top.

Updated 10/4/2012

Beastmen - Doombull fully roided out
Bretonnia - Grail Knights on the charge
DoC - Greater Daemons
Dark Elves - Witches
Dwarfs - Gunline
High Elves - Teclis
Lizardmen -
OK - Hellheart
O&G -
Skaven - Hell Pit A-bom
The Empire - Karl Franz
TK - Necro/WarSphinx
VC - Terrorgiest or Blender Lord
WoC - Warrior Lord on flying disk that kills everything
Wood Elves - War Dancers

Beasts of Chaos

Minotaurs, they are mean and do a lot of damage. A unit of 6 without upgrades spits out 18 str 4 attacks. It can be equipped with two hand weapons and if it wins combat when not frenzied, it gains frenzy. If it is frenzied and wins combat the unit gains another attack.

Ethereals seem the best way to take them out, unless they have a champion with a magic weapon. Blender vampire lord that can kill them before they can attack.

Wait, what? Minotaurs should be way down the list of threats Beastmen can present VC with. The Ramhorn Doombull would be a much scarier thing, as it's one of the few things capable of killing a Vampire Lord in combat and not biting the dust himself. A Horde of Beast Bannered Gors or Bestigors aren't exactly a picnic either.

Biggest threat to our army?
5 things come to mind
Greater Daemons (we have no real answer to it, then again who does?)
Mournfang (Unless you have T-Bats)
Kdaii (See greater Daemon)
Big Grail Lance on Charge
Witch Elves.

This are things I fear. Other than that I am fine iwth most things

When you say Kdaii, do you mean the monstrous infantry or the ridiculously overpowered piece of crap from forgeworld that ate my army twice until I got my HE and blatantly list tailored to beat them both?

As a vampire I fear swordmasters, phoenix guard, white lions, black guard and dwarf gunlines (actually everyone fears them). My least favorites, though, are Book of Hoeth archmages/Teclis and dark elf sorceresses with the sac dagger if they have PSoX/PoS. As a vampire, the only thing I fear worse than the words "initiative test or die" are the words "the badr brigades are coming up again. Time to arm the kurds and get out of here."

PS - Some *&$*$#& brought a 3k list with 3 of those monsters, and then I killed him and burned fireborn this into his face. Did you read about that in the newspaper?

Teclis.
Kdaii (who in their right mind created that thing? even worse, who did the "errata?").
Bloodthirster.

Devine I am just going say this once. High Elves have the best answer to Kdaii out there. No one else has a special choice that is M9 SS with Dragon Armor and 5+ wounds. They can hold and beat Kdaii all day every day.

Though the errated version is disgusting.... It is why I run one xD

The necrosphinx and warsphinx of the Tomb Kings. Hate them. Hate them. Hate them.

And bl@@dy wardancers! I just get a mental block wiyh them and the only tactic I have is to chuck zombies at them and IoN the unit so they keep the wardancers bogged down for battle.

Johnny, do you face Dragon Princes with Banner of Swiftness?

Whisky, wardancers give you trouble? They should die to step up.
If you get hit in the flank, send a character over to the side and take them out.

Send ghouls at the sphinxes, it's what I do. Spirit Leech on a 10 also helps, as does double banshee.
The most fun way to deal with them is to just charge a solo spirit host at them and hold the thing up all game, just watch out for flank charges and spells.

Doomwheel and Hell Pit. Can't really redirect the Doomwheel with small/ethereal things, that lightning just vaporizes them before anything and is ofcourse magical, it has high toughness and is basically a very anoying thing to have in your flank.
Hellpit, well, is just a Hellpit. I once put 50 zombies against it, and with in 1 turn it reduced them to, say, 8 or so. Ofcourse I rolled very poorly on my ION, and so the turn after they were gone.

Johnny - I know HE have the answer - that is why I used them instead of my DE/brets/vamps. That is so ridiculous. How did it get past playtesting? I so enjoyed kicking his butt. Scream the sphinxes - or if you have a shadow caster, use PoS. Wardancers hit hard, but die like flies to step up/torrents.

I really hate grey seers and their turn you to rats spell (is it the plague or 13th? Can't remember) But it is scarier versus elves and knight blocks than vamps.

Witch elves with the spell that gives them str 7 in the same turn they charge.

You don't know rage until you watch a unit of 40 Grave Guard disappear in one combat to those....:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

And now everyone knows why I agree with Johnny about NOT using Grave Guard.

Throw a large DEEEEEP unit of zombies at them and park two Terrogeist beside them scream scream scream !!!!!!
This works against the Warriors of chaos unit that is built like them to.

I think you're underselling the Warriors book a bit there, Johnny. They do run a killer MSU-MMU list, which can give a bunch of armies a ton of trouble (though it does make them rather vulnerable to Blender Lords and Screams, but that's just a bad matchup that doesn't speak to the quality of the army as a whole). The prevalence of ItP in the army also allows all of these units to operate more or less independently, which is more than what most MSU-MMU armies can say. And then there's that almost-unkillable Lord on a Disc running around either holding up units by himself or nuking people with virtually consequence-free IF's (go go Infernal Gateway and Treason of Tzeentch!). Warriors are definitely a solid army, with a couple of juicy tricks on the side in the Chosenstar and the Throgg Horde.

High Elf mages with Death Magic is shit scary

Bloodletters is a unit that also rly grind my gears. They're just equipped to deal with anything

O&G's

There isn't too much here I'm overly concerned about... on it's own. But a big block of black orcs or Grimgor aren't the nices things to see across the board from you.

I always have trouble with skaven and daemons. Partly because I have a large number of ethreal units, and they don't care about ethreals. My terrorgheists have been going to town against these armies until they are caught by bloodthirstier/ shot down by wlc

I play OnG on the reg, and they've got a couple tricky match ups. My local guy doesn't like warmachines except for Doom Divers, so he's taken to tooling up a Boss on Wyvern and flying straight at my Terrorgheist. Basically, they both go pop in that fight because his Boss is either dead or way vulnerable. He wants my beastie out of the fight by turn 2 and that's the best answer he's come up with. Maybe not the /worst/ threat from OnG, but it's pretty effective.

Other than that, Doom Divers are fairly accurate as far as warmachines go and you can bet those dudes will be flying straight at whatever high armor you've brought. If there's 2 or (in his case) 3 on the table, you can say goodbye to your Knights of either flavor pretty fast. Standard warmachine hunting makes it a race against the clock, so to speak.

Against Lizards Wraiths and Banshees are great fun at dealing with skinks and stegadons and salamanders
