i have just read "runefang" and in it is an undead host called the legion of zahaak, led by zahaak the worm, a black lord of nagash, basically a wight king in form. i was wondering if it would be legal and competitive (for friendly games mind you) to use a wight king as your general, and then have a legion of skeletons and wights as troops.

Obviously the legion of skeletons and wights is doable! But unfortunately you're not allowed to take a Wight for a general - it's only vampires now.

Having said that, I don't think there'd be nothing wrong with having a wight model with the vampire rules, if it's for the sake of characterisation. So long as your opponent knows he's the general!

What was "Runefang" like? I read a blurb for it and it sounded a bit cheesy - magical sword to save the fairy kingdom, sort of thing.

Well it was a little deeper than that, although it tried a bit much at being Lord of the Rings, I think. But dark chaarcters a-plenty, unlike LotR. Not a great read, but good fun.

I think the author couldn't decide whether to style Zahaak's legion as Tomb Kings or Vampire Counts though, with Scorpions and light archer cavalry in one battle, Black Knights and Banshees in others. Personally if you want to recreate it, then you might as well have a pop at creating your own characters. Here's how I would represent Zahaak:
Wight King
von Carstein Ring
So only a slight deviation, really.
Then as the army use Wight Kings and Necromancers (liches) for characters. No Vampires or Ghouls in the army, but replace the 6" march thing as being for Wight Kings instead. With little magic it'll be a complete grindfest, but should be fun. You could even make a campaign of it, starting off only with Skeletons and Grave Guard, then the army becoming more "fresh" as the games continue...

Vamp Lord with Accursed Armour should be fine to count as a Wight 'Lord'. Making an undead army witi no magic or magic defence is going to leave you with very little chance of winning (we're paying for the ability to come back and without magic can't use it).

Well I don't know if a Vampire army without magic is that weak, really, everything is still really powerful. But yeah, a Vampire Lord with Accused Armour will do the trick nicely if you don't want to make up new rules. Though I'd still prefer the Carstein Ring as it's "fluffier" for the fella.

i ewas also pondering using a whight king as the black lord and then having "necromancers" be skelie mages that are like his vassals or something.
