RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 1/25/09

Okay, it's time I got around to finishing this army.

Since my last update, I've detailed my grave guard and maybe some skeletons. I made up the kiteman as my third batswarm and threw a little paint on that unit. I also made up a third vampire so I could toughen up the army for some of the meaner tournament scenes around here.

In a month I have a very friendly tournament to take this to, though, so I want this army to shine! I only have a few models to paint from primer (kids from the Corpse Cart -slash- Puppet Master) and a whole lot of detailing to do. I want to add a lot more to the bases: discarded wine bottles, strands of beads, coins, streamers, masks, etc. All the stuff that you'd find on the ground at Mardis Gras.

Wish me luck!

Good Luck!

I was really hoping you would come back to complete this, so get those extra models done and pics up!
PM sent.

RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 1/25/09

I'll try to get some table-shots of this army at the tournament today. It will be inside a game store, though, so I'm not sure how the lighting is going to turn out.

Meanwhile, here is the newest addition to the army. My Death Jester. I add him in when I want to power the army up a bit. (Of course, I have to power down some of the rest of the army to get this guy in, so I'm now sure how well that actually works. :))

Looks like I never got around to posting my finished BSB, either. I need some decals to put the street names in, and I might flood her base with beads, but otherwise I don't imagine I'll do anything else to her.

And one more picture: my finished Grave Guard. You can compare this to the picture farther up in the army shot to see a bit of how the detailing turned out on this. No one is purely purple any more! (Well, except for the purple guy, but, you know, that's his thing. :))

Spirit Hosts

Finally working on some Spirit Host models. Very exciting, I like how they're coming along.

In keeping with the army's theme, I'm doing a "Wall of Remembrance" where the names of fallen heroes are inscribed for all to be remembered. On this night, the power of those wishes and prayers has been corrupted by the dark forces attacking town, and the spirits of those who have fallen are summoned forth.

I'll get pictures up soon!

As ever, a fantastic update. I'd love to party with these guys - especially the minxy BSB lady. Hubba hubba.

Army Shots

I took a few pictures of my army set out on a table (no game-in-progress shots, though). Most of them turned out pretty bad. Here's what was left.

Looks wonderful. The tidal wave of colours is almost dazzling! :D

=O I'm going to like, take pictures of your army for inspiration. They're on my computer now.

Update 5/30/09: Spirit Hosts

So these are my Spirit Host WIP. There's nothing new here, per se -- it's spirits coming out of a wall. The printed wall carvings are going to be decals, but the printouts show you what will be there.

I'm going to try to paint these today or tomorrow.

To remind you, the whole purpose of this festival is in rememberance of those who have fallen in the line of duty. On this night, all of the thoughts and wishes of those who have prayed at this wall has been answered -- thanks to a little black magic! :)

I can't say anything that I haven't already. Superb. Brilliant. Astounding.....I could go on.

The colour of this army makes it a pleasure to look at, and the conversions are so well thought out. The hosts coming our of the wall is another great example of that.

What I like the best, is that I can look at your army once, and then look at again and find something new I missed last time. It's got so much detail that you can keep on looking and looking..............I would hate playing you because I would be too distracted admiring your models. Maybe my Ellie can do with a bit of colour xd

RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 5/23/09

I have to second DoN. Every time I look at your models I see something I missed before. o.o

Whenever I get my stuff in..*growl* I'm gonna be using a lot of your work as inspiration/motivation as to how good people can get when they put their mind to it. Hopefully my army looks half as good as yours, neh?

RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 5/23/09

Your Ellie has made me jealous, Disciple -- I want one of my own! Not in this army, of course, but maybe for some later project.

I'll be keeping a eye on you, Onikaigo. Can't wait to see what you do!

I love watching all of the logs that are active right now. Keep up the good work, guys!

New update here tomorrow! I'm waiting for some work on my Spirit Hosts to dry before I complete the basing. I'm almost done with my Bat Swarms, too. Fun!

I'm really excited about some of these final pieces.

RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 5/23/09

Can't wait to see your latest works, Devo! :thumb: Love all your stuff here, though I'm really eager to see more Cthulhu stuff as well :vampire2:

So yeah, get those pics up! xD

RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 5/23/09

So, it's been a while since I updated this. Looks like there's a few things I've finished since I last posted. But you don't get to see those tonight.

This post is for my Spirit Hosts and Bat Swarms.

Bat Swarms
Let's start with the Swarms. The first idea for these guys came from Raindog on another forum -- a fact that I appreciate, as I was sort of stumped on how to put these in my army.

Pictures!

Raindog suggested the guy selling baloons. He's the least finished of these, but I need to wrap up my day to head out for the weekend and I wanted these posted before I left.

To work these into my theme, then, I have peddlers selling evil puppets, evil kites, and evil baloons. Oh, those evil baloons.

Anyway, I had to freehand the bats on those baloons, which is not my strong point.

Puppets!

Spirit Hosts:
I can't say that this is a novel idea, but it fits so well into the theme that I had to do it. And I like how it turned out.

Strangely, this fits into the the army visibly worse than any other single piece, but it fits the background better than any other piece. (The Carnivale, if you remember, is a celebration honoring the fallen dead.)

Too much talk! Pictures!

The backs of the walls:
SpiritHost_done3.jpg

After painting up the spirits, I went back and highlighted their skulls, including darkening the skull holes -- eyes, nose, mouth. I'm not sure I like it as they have a dark nose standing out of their face. But I'll keep it for now.

These all need dirtying up: I want to put wreaths, scrolls, bottles, coins, etc at the base of the walls. Tokens of remembrence from those who have survived. We'll see if that gets done before my tournament at the end of June.

RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 6/11/09

This really is one of my favorite painting logs to follow. The idea is incredibly imaginative and the painting really is top notch. Besides your many very well done conversions it is your attention to the small details that really makes it stand out. I hope you make an equally extravagant display tray for them, because they really deserve it.

Also, I like the way your spirit host faces look, not quite a skull not quite a face - reminds me of the way the Army of the damned looked in Return of the King.

RE: Carnivale de los Muerte: Updated 6/11/09

good to see that Carnivale de Los Muerte rolls on to another stage with more great work!

keep this up man good to see this is still going
