How I wish I had read this thread before my last game against WOC! It was a nasty shock to meet up with a monster that was better in combat than my vampire Lord...,so could anyone offer up an uncomped 2400 point list that would be competitive against a WOC army that includes a Demon Prince?,Two Terrorghiests yes,but what else??

The lord build discussed earlier, death magic and lots of hexwraiths... But the tbat will always be the best tool. I would use the list I normally go with but exchange my mortis engine for a second tbat. In short, you would have two tbats shooting and imagine this... 2 x 8 HW riding through him. If just one of them succeed riding through him he will face 8 hits that wound on 4+ no AS, meaning he only have his 5++ to save him. That in it self can kill him, but assisted by 2 tbats you are certain to get a scream off that will finish the job... Dead DP.

WoC is a though army to beat face to face because.. they are so much better in hand to hand combat!

The common WoC lists I face go a little bit like this:

1 solid group of Warriors, with a Hero as backup. Some go Nurgle here, others go Khorne. Watch out for Khorne because a group of 25 will chew on anything!
1-2 Chariots, Mark of Nurgle (because.. everyone llikes Nurgle now, specially against VC)
1-2 Units of 3 Skullcrushers of Khorne. Nasty Nasty stuff, immune to Ethereals
1-2 Manticores. Evil stuff.
1 Kited out Daemon Prince with everything mentioned above
1 Chaos Sorcerer, Lv 2 most of the time, but the Daemon Prince is enough to do heavy casting
1 Unit of 5 Chaos Knights, and maybe Character support. Magical Attacks everywhere!

So... there are a lot of things you can field:

1 maxed out blender Vampire Lord. May or may not be Lv 4
2 Necromancers, with Dispel Scroll and maybe Cursed Book / Forbidden Rod / Scroll of Shielding (not so important against WoC).
2 Hero Vampires, kited to taste: Fear-bombing Warriors of Nurgle is why people should not bring non-ITP models against Vampires!, or 2 Mini-Blender Vampires with Red Fury. Alternatively, 1 Vampire and 1 Wight King BSB, with Nightshroud to add to the flavor.
2 Terrorgheists
1 Unit of 10 - 13 Black Knights to carry the Vampire Lord. He sould never be on foot if he is going to engage the Daemon Prince.
??? Units of Zombies. Lots and Lots of Zombies. No need for Ghouls here, nor Skeletons. None will fare any better than zombies here. Lots of High-Str attacks against them.
2-4 Units of Dire Wolves. Redirect those Khorne warriors all day long!
1-2 Units of hexwraiths. Because of Manticores, Chariots, Skullcrushers (Spectral Hunters on these ones, never engage in close combat) and Chaos Knights. Keep them close to the Black Knights, as a body guard maybe.

If you have points to spare here, squeeze some Extra Magic levels on characters, to get better spells off.

This.. OR

1 Strigoi Ghoul King with Scabscrath, Dragonbane gem, Other Trickster's Shard, Aura of Dark Majesty on a Terrorgheist.

2 Extra Terrorgheists

Anything else you want... just get a BSB on a Hellsteed so that the Ghoul King doesn't fail his Frenzy check. No WoC Army can deal with so many screams (except maybe the immortal Chaos Lord of Tzeentch, but anyways).

There, 2 ideas for you Wolf Child! :D

Ahh right,Thanks for the advice guys, you have given me loads of options and encouragement there.I'm glad you mentioned Hexwraiths as I have been wanting to try some for a while now and I also was starting to think I'd be better of fielding loads of zombies for core rather than ghouls or skelys, and yes good idea to have the vampires or vampire/WK in with some black knights I haven't used cavalry for some time now...so yeah I'm kinda looking forward to my next game against WOC rather than dreading it! (Valle and Demian-thanks for the help and advice.)

I had a success with strigoi king, red fury, fencer's blades, pot of strenght, beguile, db gem. Even with nurgle mark i catch him with 4++ repeatable.. str8 reduce his AS to 6+. I was lucky...
Maybe with obsidian blade and ots... what do you think? :)

Against 1+ AS without Str 8+?

yep, those are better odds for wounding him. OTS is a very nice and necesary bonus to ensure more wounds.

This is specially true, since I kinda kit my V Lord with the Obsidian Blade against humans from now and then, instead of the Ogre Blade.

But that's only because my mate always brings 2 cannons + STank against my Terrorgheists D:

Dragon Bane Gem

Ahh, true... Allot of people will run that if they are smart, so yes, if they do HW wont work. That said I cant really stress enough how good HW are. There is talk here about how tough WoC are. Well their juggernauts dont like getting intimate with the hexies thats for sure, same goes for any knight unit out there. Just be carefull with WoC that they cant be charged, because their knight and juggies have magical attacks. The thing is, people pay allot of point for high AS, so you get a huge return. Well, I have derailed the thread enough, so better stop there.

On a side note of Hexwraiths:

You must be very very wise while using them against dudes with magical attacks, since Spectral Hunters is the only thing they can do against them... which won't work once the target unit is in combat.

Other Cavalry can march freely, while Hexwraiths need the General nearby. So... your best shot at catching them with a single march move is when they are coming to you (or there is impassable terrain to your advantage). Because once they are side to side with the wraiths, it'll be very difficult to catch them, march or no march, and they can always go charge something to be safe from the Hexwraiths.

This is the same with a Daemon Prince, but much harder, since he can move without the need to wheel.
