I am new to this forum, new to Vampires and the 8th edition.
I've played on and off for just about 7 years and here I am, back again.
As you most likely understand I'm adding Vampire Counts to the collection
and wondering what to pick up. I read your Overview, but I thought a more
personal response would help me out alot better and help me build the army
around what units I so far like. Just going to list what units I'd like to
build around and you can get back to me anytime.
Zombies (Ofcourse)
Skeletons (What are undead without them?)
Black Knights
Grave Guards (Liked them back in the 6th)
Terrorgheists
Blood Knights

With the terrorghiest GG and skeletons I would say you have a strong backbone on which to build off of. Add in a few vampires and a master necro for magical lifting and you should do fine. Our two main rare (Engine and Ghiest) are best run in pairs
Well the HE player uses mainly Swordmasters and Light mages... you can make one for 2000 pts if you prefer, we play mostly 1500-2000 pts. Usually a unit of Dragon Princes with a Noble aswell as archers for Core.
@Circus I would suggest picking up some Crypt Horrors, its one of our best units. I would not recommend using Blood Knights : /, Terrorgheists will rock your world though!

I haven't played Vampire Counts since the 7th edition rulebook, (both the big one and the Vampire Counts one).
And I was wondering, what is effective against Skaven? My opponent plays a dual Warp Lightning Cannon, with a big block of Plauge Monks pushing a plague furnance, supported by censers, and loads of giant rats. I also think that he will be using Warlock Engineers to snipe lone units.
Would appreciate any form of help, thanks in advance :ghost:

Anything that can chew through tons of rats in a hurry (Vampire Lords generally do this well, as do Terrorgheist screams), and anything that has armor against those Plague Monks and WLC's (Black Knights fit the bill here). All in all, I'd suggest a Cavalry-centric force.
Rats can't deal with armor in combat. Definitely BK bus. There's descent odds the WLCs will blow themselves up anyway.

Let me run this one by you. The other night my empire playing buddy charged my blunderguard with 2 detachments of archers. There were 2 left from one of the units after the ensuing combat. He then informs me that they are steadfast as they share that rule with their parent unit. Had the halberdiers been in combat, I would buy it. But they weren't, so how could they be steadfast? I let it ride because it was a friendly game. We discussed it further after the match agreeing that the rule was pretty vague.
Opinion?

Anyway, I have another question, back on the topic of a mobile VC army. Assuming I am running another core option with VDM to keep one to two units of M 4 up with the main host, can you then conceive of a way to make a speedy VC list competitive, or at least decent in friendly? I'd assume you'd be choosing Ghouls as the hordes.

Dear Johnny, I will fight my HE enemy this saturday and it will be a 1000 pt game. He will be using: 14 Swordmasters, 20 archers, 1 Eagle, 1 Chariot (dont know which), 5 DPs and a Mage. Numbers may vary and its not all but those I know for a fact.

I've had a lot of success running two small 20-strong units of Slaves. They act a lot like rat darts, and keeping them on the outside of two Clanrat units let me Weapon Team into the Slaves' combat. Warpfire Throwers ftw. I think these big 80+ Slave units are a points dump, especially from an army that doesn't exactly hurt for tarpits/redirectors/march blockers/etc.
