  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Welcome to the next instance of Turning the World to Darkness competition!

In the Turning the World to Darkness we pick a different theme each time, and the goal is to represent the theme or find ways to turn it to the ways of undead!

The theme of this competition, as chosen by Oxymandias, the winner of the March/April competition, is “IT…IS…ALIVE!⚡

Think flesh golems and other failed experiments. Find the Frankenstein within and bring some twisted creations to...un-life!
You are also encouraged to use models or parts from whatever army you feel like, not restricted to undead only. It could be a single model or a whole unit of them, of all scales and sizes.

Original models (sculpts) and conversions are allowed.

The Prize: The winner earns the glory and a place in the Hall of Infamy thread and a forum medal once they are available. The winner also gets to select the theme of the next painting challenge (note that the winner only has a weekend to present the decision, so please be prepared and available).

The Rules:
  • All models entered should not have been painted more than a year ago from the date the entry thread is closed. This will not be enforced but violators will politely be asked to retract their entry.
  • All miniatures presented must have been painted by the entrant.
  • Max one entry per person.
  • Max 3 images per entry (including pictures in collages), of reasonable size.
  • No voting for your own entry.
  • No model can be entered into several challenges.
  • Open entries and open voting. Everyone can see who painted what.
  • Models can be of any manufacturer and conversion but must fulfill all the criteria of the given theme.
  • If no decision on the next theme is made within a week of the winner announcement, the decision falls to the competition organizer.

The Schedule:

Week 1, Tuesday: Theme announcement and entry thread created
Week 6, Monday: Entry thread closed. Voting thread opened.
Week 8, Sunday: Voting thread closed. Result announced. Winner asked about next theme.

This thread is now open for people to post their entries. Please state a name of the entry along with the pictures. The thread closes on the 6th of June 2022 at (roughly) 23:59 CET (but we are not in a hurry, we can easily extend it if someone needs to finish their entry). You can also comment and discuss in this thread, it is not restricted exclusively for entries.

One of the things I miss when living away from my hometown is the ability to access the full potential of my accumulated bits-box and brainstorm on the spot for stuff like these.

Hopefully I'll be able to snatch some useful bits to create something abominable, next time I'm visiting. 🙂

I managed to dig something useful out of the ol' box o' bits. This is where I'm headed.

I didn't have any legs for this, so smushed some greenstuff over the wires I used to connect the feet to the torso. Next is some rubble on the base and then a blast of primer. I'll be back with the painted thing once he (it) is ready to enter the competition! Might be a few weekends...

I bought Deintalos in the hopes that I would get the time to paint him for this competition but I just have so little time these days and the little time I do have for hobby I spend on writing the Nighthaunt handbook with Unas. Would love to have the time, but I think it is unrealistic.

MAYBE i have something.
What's the new deadline? it's this weekend or it's fine as long as we don't extend it too much?

(not that i need a long time... i already have almost everything, i must only collect the pieces and assemble a diorama)

We're not in a big of a rush, so it's not a set deadline. I'd rather have more entries than cut it short. 😉

Sad to hear your hobby time is so limited these days, but it's understandable, we've all been through such cycles. I'm sure Deintalos will be viable in some of the future competitions as well. 🙂
