oh you mean this fellow? shamelessly stolen idea from some other brilliant hobbyist here, cant remember the name though

his wingspan is wide enough for a terrorgheist/zombiedragon base but the giant base could also work, however it just about covers the part of his body covering the ground, and with that huge wingspan it looks rather silly.. two hydra bases could do the trick however

That's the chap. I saw him in that other plog as well and immediately knew I had found my Abyssal Terror conversion. (I run a Necrarch theme, and that monster /screams/ "built in a tower by a mad wizard" to me). Since he'll be an Abyssal, I want him on the smallest base I can get away with--the official AT base being 50mm I believe--so I don't want to hurt myself with a big whopping base. Basically I want the bits of the Nid body that are actually on the ground to be touching the base. Not worried about the raised tail bit hanging over, and obviously the wings are gunna be way out there.

Would it be too much trouble if I asked for some millimeter measurements of the left to right and front to back for the flat part on the bottom? I'd super appreciate it.

greenstuff night #2

finished up the transitions and gaps on the cairn wraith character, smooth i may say ;)
gonna basecoat this bastard in the weekend and hopefully start painting him shortly thereafter.

any ideas on what colouration to go for? darkish purple tones on the cape? perhaps turquise hints in the hightlight from a black base?

or just plain old and boring gray of different hues on a black cape xD

Thanks a million! Exactly what I needed to know. And keep up the killer work, man. I love scoping out your new conversions.

As for Grim's cloak, how do you have the other cloth in your army painted? One of the things I've had to give a lot of thought is how to make my VC look like a cohesive army. There's lots of bones and dead skin, but not much of any one material is present in every unit. I know it's not a suggestion for scheme, but maybe it'll help to stand a couple feet from the table and look at how the whole army looks together to give you an idea of how to do him.

sure it counts, i can pose a vampire next to it, then it counts right :perv:

nothing fancy really just a head i painted up out of boredom while i was waiting for a package to arrive
tried out some luftwaffe uniform - gray with hints of blue from vallejo on him, gonna use a similar scheme for the strigoi and ghouls, based on that luftwaffe colour

anyways, this weekend a good friend of mine and commission buddy is coming over so hopefully ill have stuff to show off after the weekend;)

and here's my latest addition, the monstrous, hideous.. Über-ghoul (counts as varghulf - will have two of 'em!xD)

"in a handful of cases, some crypt horrors actually manage to complete their grotesque transformation without their bodies consuming them in the process. in such cases a new terror is born, the daytime watchers over the ghoul kings, the terrible creatures known as Über-ghouls. Towering over even the hulking crypt horrors, these monstrosities are slaughter incarnate, the apex of the Strigoi vampires arsenal - terrible shock troops capable of going toe to toe with a ogre tyrant or wrestling with a Vyvern.
It is well that they are so very rare."

'posing here with a few of his friends:thumbsup:

Don't spoil the surprise on my account. I'll just have to check back in on this plog often.

Who am I kidding, that won't be any different than what I already do. Keep up the good work!

quick update, converted a lord (i.e Lady) and a sorcress for my GF and her Dark elves,
gonna greenstuff their necks later tonight so she can start priming them

also have a little something i need help with, cant decide whether to go all out with spider-theme on my strigoi army or to move to the more.. grotesque horror-type of way o.o

as the story goes sofar ill have my strigoi overlord ride on a arachnarok instead of terrorgheist/dragon. also having crypt spiders (mounts from spider rider goblins) as dire wolves
and spiderling swarms instead of batswarms. this would fit well with having a spiderling monstrosity, either way my 'counts as' Vargheist will be long limbed and skulking, no wings just long spindly arms and either a spider head or some other monstrous facial feature.

so here it is, a quick snapfit later, decide between the two!
(in case of the spider, the head will mount directly onto the torso, so the neck goes clean off, but if im going with the other head i cant cut the neck off so had to glue it outside.
the horror head will need alot of greenstuffing around the back of the chin and neck, but alas might be worth it

so what say you?

I think I agree with Johnny - I rather like the first one, but not as a VC character or troop - unless you were actually going to make a Necrach's army! For the Strigoi I would stay with version two myself, he's lord of the beasts and spiders, not strictly part of them if that makes sense? Hope so - best of luck, and I like the dark elf ladies above xD

It reminds me of a d&d monster, the Ettercap:

I actually like the spider head guy.
