Greetings!

Pretty simple really; which 40K armies float Carpe Noctem's boat(s) and why? It's always interesting to see who likes what, even if they don't necessarily play Warhammer 40,000.

Personally, I have two particular favourites, the first of which is the Chaos Space Marines; specifically the Word Bearers. I remember reading the White Dwarf issue which had their original Index Astartes article in about eight-or-so years ago now; I'm still as captivated with their ideologies, history and sheer awesomeness as I was all that time ago. They seem to have had something of a revival as of late; I've really enjoyed checking out what people have come up with for them over on the B&C, and of course Anthony Reynolds' books are just excellent. :vampire3:

My other favourite army is the Orks. I just think they're brilliant; they add some light-heartedness and violent fun to the otherwise very sensible world of 40K. Modelling wise they're a converter's dream; anything goes with them (although red is preferable)! Ghazghkull Thraka is easily one of my all-time favourite GW minis, and has been for a long time.

So.... go!

My personal favorite is Dark Angels. They are the first and greatest of the space marines. Their Primarch never lost a battle, the only person with more victories was Horus. The Lion should have been the Warmaster. However, I digress, they are full of character and I love the schemes of them and their successors. There hunt for the fallen makes for great stories and of course the dress/robes are awesome and add flavor.

Dark Angels are schizophrenic psychos, and their primarch is a dick >.>. My personal favorite is a bit of a tie. I love the Death Guard, Nurgle is my favorite chaos god, and Mortarion is just so win. However, I also love the Blood Ravens. Its amazing how far they've come from being a made up chapter in a video game to actually being in the space marine codex, and I've even heard rumors of a Blood Raven codex. Gabriel Angelos is also one of the best characters of all time.

Dark Eldar. Their lore is just so tragic and terrible at once. A once godlike civilasation, now fallen, defiant and completely lost. They probably do not realise the pain and suffering they inflict, not in the same sense we do but it a nessecary sensation of emotion. Soul-consuming is also something they must do. So one have to ask oneself, would members of a such an ancient and powerful civilisation regard themselves as evil when killing "lesser" lifeforms? Probably not.

That being said, they are lost, completely lost. Their mind and greatness a shadow of its former self. That being said, in their present state I am sure alot of the DE population have fallen further and actually enjoy their wicked nature. To many "the wickedness" probably isnt anything special. Like for those who of us who eat meat care little for the suffering of animals we eat(even though we dont like it, we dont particularly care either). I would guess their relationship is much the same... but again, many many Dark Eldar minds are unhinged to say the least as well.

...Furthermore, I love their playstyle. Fast and furious! I even like the models, some are terrible I really like the incubi, raiders/ravagers, reavers, hellions and given abit of extra attention the warriors as well. Needless to say I am awaiting the re-release of Dark Eldar with great anticipation, please GW, give us a new codex! Bring us new models! We're waited for so long!

Yeah, I love Dark Eldar too. I think Asdrubael Vect is one of the best models, if not the best model GW has ever made.

My favorite?
Tyranids!
Why?
Because they're gonna win! ...someday...
There's a lot more of them than there are of you, and they keep coming, and coming and coming and coming and... what's that? You're out of bullets? Well, you can't shoot yourselves now, can you? Tell you what, you just sit there and die all by yourself and we'll be a long shortly to reuse your parts. Sound good? Reduce reuse recycle, that's our motto!
xD

I'm a hardcore Emperor's Children fan and eagerly awaiting the next Codex because I want my sonic weapons on Dreadnoughts, Rhinos and you name it back!
I also love Dark Eldar because...well they are spiky, evil and have female slaves; what's not to like?!:devil2:

Needless to say I haven't been playing 40K a lot since I dislike the new bland Chaos 'dex and am (hopelessly?) waiting for new DE.

I have always been drawn to the nids, mainly because they reminded me of the Alien films. However I am just about to start a Tau army, so I'll have to wait and see whether they can sway my affections..............I do also for some reason like the idea of the Dark Angels.

DoN you could always do a Genestealer infestation force in witch case the Genstealers would be trying to impregnate as many of a Host species as possible. seems quite in your character

Eldar from Craftworld Iyanden (also my second 40k army) overall (love their refusal to give up even when almost annihilated, though they are grim warriors with not much hope left which makes them even more hardcore as they're still fighting as hard as ever) and Blood Angels second only because of their Primarch Sanguinius. His fights with the Lord of the Bloodthirsters and Horus himself almost straight afterwards are damn epic. I'd love to see some sort of clip or movie about Sanguinius doing those things as they wuld be perfect for them.

Chaos is third with Thousand Sons and my reception to my Slaaneshi Warriors of Mayhem is warming up too. Thousand Sons would've stopped the Heresy if only the Emperor listened to Magnus's warnings. With that I feel kinda sorry for them, as they were only trying to help, albeit with unconvential methods. They also value knowledge over just about all else which is similar to my own opinion.

Silly Emperor he really shouldnt have said that the man who phsycic message breached the most secure palace in the Imperium which had never been breached before was a threat...

Heretic! You dare besmirch the name of our holy emperor!?
His wrath shall rain upon you as a thousand tanks rumble forth and ten million lasguns spew forth his holy fury, as the screaming valkyries rain death upon your world, and the mighty Imperial Guard Steamrolls you into oblivion!
(Yes, I am a guard lover, who else gets to field 9 of the best tank in the game, and then put a huge gattling cannon onto those tanks?)
(That said, I only have 3 Leman russes to far and have never won a game with guard)
(But I have more fun losing with guard than I had winning with Blood Angels.)
I like guard coz they are truly the most courageous guys out there. Yes, Space Marines are brave. But you would be brave too if you was 8 foot tall, able to walk through solid walls as if they were paper, had muscles so big that Arnie wets himself and wore freakishly good super armour.
But the Imperial guardsman, he faces all the terrors of the galaxy, armed with nothing but a flashlight and some armour produced out of paper mache. Go the Dog Faced footslogger!

I'm a Dark Angels fan, though I am partial to the Guardians of the Covenant offshoot myself. I think because they have the least amount of pregenerated fluff to them. It gives me more leeway on what I can do with them. At the very least, I don't ever use MoR on Jetbike, because the Guardians are a newer chapter and does not have access to Jetbikes.

The Necrons take my vote for favourite 40k army on the account of being unliving machines - I've got a thing for artificial intelligences and the way they go about killing stuff. :vampire2:

The Chaos Daemons are also high on my list due to their random in-game nature and individual power.

I love the Eldar for their models, they are amazingly stylish. I also like their play-style, fats and accurate. I would love to have an army of aspect warriors, but damn the money tree isn't working.
Then I like Daemon hunters for 3 reasons:
1) Grey Knights - need I say more.
2) Vindicare assassins - best shots in the game. Plus I love snipers.
3) Inquisitors - well, their dark, brooding, gothic, and have a tendancy to kill everyone nearby. Awesome :)

My primary army, Biel Tan Eldar!! Excellent model range, quite flexible game-wise.

The Emperor's Children have been my primary 40k army for almost 10 years, I loves 'em, so much to explore... so many to do, so little time!

That's my only "MEQ" army... they are fun to play too... too bad that 4th kinda wrecked the abilty to do a "full" EC list...

Dark Eldar all the way.

My first and only army in 40K. Moreover, DE is the army that has pushed me to start with 40K back in the nineties, after I got hooked up with Necromunda.

And about the codex? Well, that's like waiting for Goddot.

Yours
B

I've thought about writing a replacement army list but so far not had the energy to put pen to Word, I was pretty gutted about losing my 4-gun blastmaster squads but not so gutted they got a significant power increase. I still haven't done my EC Noise-Obliterators I promised myself either.

Incidentally, I've always been a big fan of the themes, imagery & (scant) background of the Dark Eldar too, if they ever get some good models (aside from the Incubi & one or two others) they may pull level with the Ribena-berry Legion.

Most of the DE range needs a a lot of work!! I have 3 Archon/Dracon models... and only half of one started as a DE model. The other 2 are based off Harlequin models. Yeah, the Incubi are nice. The vehicles aren't bad (I suppose). Wyches are absolutely horrible (mine are converted Fantasy Witch Elves).

I suppose that the Apoc list for EC is usable in a friendly environment. I too missed my 4 BM Havoc squads, sonic vehicles, and mostly... my sonic Terminators :D
