I guess it's my turn...

I'm completely new to the Warhammer universe, and am coming over from playing Flames of War (a WWII miniature wargame). Several friends of mine and I have banded together to form our own small WFB group here in Minnesota. I picked up the VC rulebook and have started painting my first regiment of skeletons (after all, what's a VC army without the mindless horde..).

Any thoughts or tips for a beginner would be appreciated!

An admin of the forum here. (woosh, this will be one of my few posts on the forum this week o_o)

Hi all folks!!!

I´m Loekhi, from Spain (I know my nickname isn´t spanish at all, don´t worry, I´m used to)

I collect vampires since 2003 (more or less) first I took dwarves for years, but I hated seeing my troops dying in the battlefield because of my bad tactics and lack of morale (I haven´t passed a Ld 10 test for ages), so I chose the Dark Side.

I want to be the dagger between the ribs of a certain well-favoured human nation which believes that has been chosen by gods only because they have whirlwinds and tanks... I want to be the avenger of my brothers in arms, fallen because everytime they tried to rebel against "the good ones" dictatorship, there was a stupid imperial, bretonnian or elvish prat on their path...

I have the eternity to reach my obejctives, so...

Hi Loehki, welcome to the forum! I have to admit Loehki is pretty funny name. I have to say that morale doesn't exist in the VC army. :)

From Spain eh? Come habla espagnol?!? (Did that make any sense? :O) I admit, too, that you're the first Spanish member I've seen on both Carpe Noctems (there is one before).

Welcome umoarsman... I guess VC are a good army to begin with. Important to realise is that this army is predominantly playing around Fear. Zombies are not there for killing, but rather for swarming and then auto-breaking the opponent. We tend to call this 'static combat resolution', or short static CR (standard + outnumber + 3 ranks of zombies behind the first). CR is explained in the Rulebook (if you haven't read it yet).

I often hear people say that Zombies are utter useless because they can't kill a thing. That's why I told you about the static CR. :)

Magic is also important. The spell 'Invocation of Nehek' is proclaimed holy in all regards of Necromancy spells. :P It's the first spell on the list so any Wizard (ahem, Necromancy practicer :P) can take the spell. It's of great tactical usage, which will be shown when you read the spell's describtion.

I guess those are the main pointers. I always tend to take a standard bearer on each rank and file unit for the static CR. There are some useful Magic Items, such as Black Periapt, Book of Arkhan, Rod of Flaming Death (not always that useful), and some others.

Ghouls are pretty useful for screening or as some sort of 'hardish' flanker... especially against Ogre sized units (with more than 1 Wound). Dire Wolves are perfect for screening and/or flank charges (they're ranked so if they flank with Unit Strength 5 or greater they cancel enemy rank CR).

That'll be it. If you have more questions or want pointers, be sure to ask them in Tactics. It can be useful to read some Battle Reports too, the BR section is crawling with them and they are very good (we good some pretty fanatic BR posters :))

Salutations.

The Handle is from DakkaDakka. VC is my 'first' army from 5th ed days. I live on Asrai.org mostly at the moment, but fondly await the new VC book and will re-tool my army accordingly.

Welcome! I remember your name on Asrai and Lost Glade (?). To be honest, your username quite fits the magic role VC seems to portray at the moment. ;)

What do you think the new VC will bring?

The new book is coming, many players have VC as second army, The Inspector pointed me here, the site has been revised. These are all very good reasons for lots of new members.

Thank you for the welcome Count Guillaume. Bonjour and ca va? It looks like a great site.

ArchMagosAlchemys Lavoisier is one of the minor characters, mentioned in passing, from my Inquisitor Roberto Brake mystery stories and was the General for my Adeptus Mechanicus army. I suppose I could 'reform' him into an Alchemist/Necromancer providing useful support for Baron Krumlauf. The VC army was my first in WHFB and I did not develop any great fluff for him and his army. Baron Krumlauf is a professional vampire Tomb Raider who searches the Old and New World for the barrows of great warriors to add to his throng and for the items of power buried with them. His fortress in Tilea is as dark and gloomy as expected, but not without a certain charm and an outpost of civilization and learning.

Baron Krumlauf, Master of the Barrows is the Arch-enemy of Airmeith, Healer of the Twisted Glade. I loaned him and his undead horde out to one of my ex-students for Nemesis, and mostly soundly thrashed him. I wrote a little vampire fluff for the Asrai Council of Kindreds thread which I also helped co-ordinate from the Asrai side.

The Inspector pointed me here
I am most glad to see you here :)

I think AMA pretty much summed up why CN is enjoying so many new members at the moment - with the first tantalizing whiffs of a new VC book on the winds, alot of players are on the look out for a Vampire Count forum to sign up at.

Welcome to the other new members also.

My turn! *waves and jumps slightly up and down*

I'm Angelica, and have played VC for maybe 8 months soon. Although I paint in slow-motion, so I just have 1000-1500 points right now.. But I'm working on it. I've been into WHFB for two years, roughly, when I bought my first Dark Elf Warriors. I feel so sorry for them.. I've painted the unit at least two times in different colours and converted them with new weapons all the time. They are so ruined now, and I still have three or four to paint.

The thing that got me into the game was actually the LOTR models.. Which I bought a few and painted for fun. But as everyone knows, LOTR is bad and WHFB is good, so one thing led to another. Wiie!

I really like to paint Purple Ink on my hand and lick it up. Mmmmm.

I play Von Carstein by the way, I'm such a Dracula-wannabe.

Purr. *waves goodbye and hides under something*

Welcome Angelica. Something tells me you are on here for a longer time than the other newcomers. :)

That got me thinking. How does it taste? I ate paper once but paint :?:

Are you sure? You aren't a Lahmian under von Carstein disguise by any chance?

Well.. It taste bittersweet and plastic. It thrills me though, I don't know why really. *licks on her hand*

Let's say I'm a Von Carstein with a really Lahmian mind. Or just a Lahmia in a Dracula-cloak.

I guess you'll be pretty happy when there is a generic Bloodline Power list to choose from, no?

Hey,
hey everyone!I've been a long time vampire counts fan, ever since i joined the hobby about 5 years ago.I joined this site because i may be starting a vampire counts army,i'm just not sure whether i should start now or when the re-release happens.

My favourite blood lines are blood dragons and the strigoi.
cheers

Oh yes, it'll be very lovely. See, I want my Von Lahmia to be skilled in magic as well. A thing with me is that I always want the best out of everything, heh. ;)

Well in that case Angelica, you should have gone with Lahmia in the first place!! Everyone knows that Lahmians are the best, the rulers, the top of the food chain, the place of where it is all at!! CG will back me on that, won't you CG? ;)

But I understand the Drac appeal as well... Bela Lugosi, Dracula, Universal Pictures 1931. Doesn't get much better than that..

Love the sig by the way..

Welcome mate. I back Fat Olaf up with buying miniatures. It has been said that Skeletons are becoming smaller than the current ones. Grave Guard are getting redone for certain (we've seen the pictures).

I'd place my bet on buying some Zombies. Other than that, there really is no certainty. We all hope for a total new range though.

Sigh, when do I not? Your voted for the Blood Dragons is still remembered, though. ;)

Hey,
smaller skellies!Yeah ive seen the grave guard(well only one) and i wouldn't buy the blisters anyhow because they are too expensive!
I think i'll pick up a box of zombies,to convert and paint untill the new models are released.
cheers

I thought about using the Lahmia at first, but my Dracula obsession simply got the overhand. Bela Lugosi <3.
