Hi!

I’m Tom - a prolific ‘gamer’ of sorts. I love games; be it Chess, Soul Calibur, Gears of War, Magic the Gathering, Rugby, Cricket—you get the idea – I love games. I used to play Warhammer 40K about 10 years ago. I had long lost interest in the game due to the expense and trouble carting everything about, as my nearest club wasn’t very close. I started playing Magic the gathering at that point as it was easier to transport.

Fast forward a few years, I went to university gained a degree, had a baby and have a fairly decent job. Then it happened…

.. games workshop opened a store in my town. Crap.

It was only a matter of time before I was browsing in the window, then browsing in the store, and then buying packs. I bought the means to paint some figures I liked the look of; a box of Grave Guard and Vlad Von Carstien (the former I have since found out was a fair buy, the latter – not so much).

So here I am, saying hello! I plan to build a fairly competitive army, If a little different from the normal setup (if possible). Without prior knowledge of matchups / painting tips / what to buy, I thought I best get some advice from the experts.

Hey everyone. I am new to this game so don't mind my ignorance.

I look forward to reading all the great posts on this forum.

Thanks.

Hi everyone i'm redtosoon. im new to fantasy and want to start playing VC. i currently do not have an army but would love tips on construction. i'm going to be playing againts range dwarves, and orcs. (sorry if im preaching on the wrong forum):)

Hey all,

I go by Axel, and I am very new to WFB (havn't played or even bought models) but am definatly going VC. I have been doing some research alot of which led to lurking on this site =P , so it seemed time to just join ^.^ I aiming to go straight to a 2000k list with my roomate and a couple other friends. I look forward to interacting with you all!

Greetings my dark brotheren. I have been a VC player for about 3 years now. I started off with 40K in 2008 when I introduced the line in my game store. I started with my Ultramarines, followed by Necrons and Chaos Marines. As interest in fantasy started to grow in the store, I joined in. I looked at the armies and knew the Undead were the only choice for me and let's face it, vampires and zombies are cooler then just dusty old bones so VC it was. My undead first saw the field Halloween 2008 at the first fantasy game played at the store. We did a 2 v 2 game, pairing me up with Tomb Kings. I'm happy to say the undead were victorious (come on...the owner of a game store has to win sometimes). We closed 2 months later, but my hobby came with me. Since then I've started an Empire army, but I keep coming back to the Vamps. I haven't done so well with them in 8th yet, though I personally don't see why there's so much 8th ed hate out there...fantasy is currently FAR more balanced of a game then 40k at the moment. I discovered this place and hope to learn a few tricks to bring my lifeless army back to the glory it once had.

Oh and I occasionally post updates, rants, and general insanity on my blog: The Jersey General. Go check it out if you're bored and looking for self-opinionated madness.

Andy, I live in australia too, and have gotten around the price issue by buying of off bits selling websites/ebay.

Hooray for the land of Oz!

I've been told that eBay is the way to go for not-so-horrifically-priced miniatures, have you any experience with Mantic figures? I've seen a few posts on this site about them but from what I've found people either love them or hate them o.o
You ever bought from them before? If so, how was the shipping time?

Thanks, Andy :)

Also, everyone please check out my current army lists! I'm still a Warhammer n00b so any advice is paramount to me at the moment! Cheers

Welcome everyone!
Andy, personally I vehemently dislike mantic minis, as they look too silly for my liking. I feel that people who say they like them are being biased more by their wallets than they will admit, but thats just my opinion which isn't worth much.

If you like games workshop minis style but have trouble with the price, keep an eye out, as im gunna be doing a virtual shopping trip soon, comparing 3 things- buying a 2000 pts vc army direct from Games Workshop, Buying a 2000 pts vc army from mantic, and Buying a 2000 pts vc army made of games workshop minis from ebay/bitz websites, to see what the real price differences are, and hopefully at least help some people save some money.

I've bought from Mantic on a few occasions and the shipping time has been nothing out of the ordinary, though I assume that they run all of their business through their headquarters in the UK, which would mean that transport to Australia will take a little bit longer than a shipment to me in Sweden.

I really like their Skeletons, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for an alternative outside of GW's own figures. I actually retired the 50-or-so GW skeletons I had in favour of replacing them with Mantic skeletons - I've currently got 100 of them, 50 with spears and 50 with hand weapons - which, as a little result on the side, gives my army of 5,000+ points the running of theme of not having a single unit represented by the original Games Workshop miniatures they are supposed to be.

Anyway, you're all welcome to the site and to enjoy the contents of it. :)

Thank you both for your info (and view, lol) on Mantic games :)
I think, mainly because it will be for my first ever army, I'll buy into Mantic games for most of my figures. I'm a uni student and I work casually at the local supermarket, so my bank account never looks very healthy, especially since I drive a very thirsty car

Sanai, where will we be able to acces this virtual shopping trip? I presume it will have it's own thread, but in what section of the forum? I'm yet to explore every corner of this place

Just a quick question about mantic/GW bases... Are mantic figures mountable upon GW bases? Coz if there's one thing I don't like about their miniatures, it's the damn bases

Hi y'all,

Singlemalt checking in.xD I used to play BoC in the 7th ed, and quit the game just before the eighth ed. Been playing WOW since then, but have decided that I want to play WHF again.
I'm a hobbyist mostly, tried to start up with either Ogres or Beastmen, but couldn't stay motivated for those armies. Looked around and my eyes fell on VC, great miniature line, nice modelling opportunities not so much work painting. I'll be posting in the armyblog section mostly, hopefully it won't take me too long before I start posting elsewhere as well.

Thanks,
Sascha

Hey all, New member to the forums here but not new to the game of warhammer.

I have also played Skaves and Dwarfs but sold them two armys of to focus more on my first and biggest army...the Vampire Counts.
I have not played that much 8th edition as i am one of them that ain't that big a fan of them rules or how our beloved Vampires work there. I do looking forward to a new army book for the vampire counts to start new so to say.

New player looking for advice

Hello everyone, wanted to introduce myself and ask some advice. Brand new to warhammer and am looking to play with my son. Anything that doesn't involve him on his xbox has got to be good:) I have narrowed down my choices to vampire counts and warriors of chaos. Looking for advice on which would be more appropriate for a beginner who is both learning the game and learning how to collect and paint. Not looking to play in tournaments, just for fun with my son. Thanks for any pointers and am loooking forward to getting my first army started!!

Hi all; I'm Sildrad.

I've played Hordes of Chaos (now three armies), Dwarfs, Skaven, and All the Elves since I was about 13 (early 2003ish). I only Started Vampire Counts early last year, but this is all as a hint of things to come, for I've gotten tired of all the mess and the upkeep and the unfinished armies etc. etc. etc.(and I like VC the best). Long story short, I'm making Vamps my main army and everything else will be the fodder which keeps popping up on my side of the field. So there's that.

As to myself:
-I'm pretty easy-going.
-I like to party.
-I'm an engineer.
-I write.
-I make lists.

Thanks for the membership. Now I'm off to fix up my profile.
Sildrad

Hello all! Welcome to CN. Nice poem Sildrad, I'll try not to pinch it. xD

Oh, I don't know, xbox isn't that bad... :clown: Warhammer is a much better hobby, however, and that's great that you're playing with your son. As for a beginner army, I'm probably biased to Vampire Counts, but even so I might suggest Warriors of Chaos. They don't require as many models as Vampire Counts do, they don't rely as heavily on the magic phase/certain tactical combos, and they are also a very interesting army. Plenty of nice background, some really nice models, and they are also quite a strong army too. Put it this way; when Games Workshop ran the small starter sets, Warriors of Chaos used to be the models you got in a fantasy set.

My name is Beastie-gor and I have been a Beastmen player for a few years. The other day I encountered a stranger and my Beastmen instances were to slaughter this person without hesitation. I moved in for he kill but the stranger moved faster than I. He bit me but for some strange reason he didn't eat me like I would have done to him. Rather he left me for dead. Since being bit, I have the weird sensation to collect skeleton and zombi warhammer figures. :suck:

I have about 20 skellies and 20 zombies. I also have some hero/lord figures, 15 grave guard and some metal bat models. My intent in coming here is decide if the vampire army is the right army for me.

Hello, I'm Raizi and I've been an on-off Warhammer hobbyist for almost 15 years now. My first miniatures were Bretonnian, that came with a core set along with some Lizardmen. After that I started collecting some Undead (as they were called at that time) and when the first VC Army Book hit the store, I was hooked.

My figures have been in hibernation for most of the last 5 years, but now I'm starting to sort them out and building/painting/modeling a new army out of the scraps. I will post pictures here whenever I finish a unit and that's the main reason I decided to join here.

I want to give myself a boost and finally paint and assemble all my VC figures and get some table time with a fully painted army.

Jean Jacques Rosseau, John Locke and James Madison all share a common theme that government was formed to regulate and protect the rights and lifves of the common citizens who give it power and authority to make laws in order to govern the country.
Rousssue’s main belief that private property was a negative things, generally the opposite to Kocke’s own beliefs. Rossou asserted that inevitiably society was divided into two sections. One that consisted of the rick powerful elite and that of the lesser, pooer common citizendry. Roussu affirmed that the elite were essentially wrong in their exitiance as they derived their power and wealth from exploitation of lesser citizendry.
Government, as he asserts, was at first formed by the rich elite in order to maintain their rule. Prior to that Roussou believed that human beings could naturally come together htrough common relation and need and form a community based on common traits. As long as men were strictly equal all was good for Rousssou.
The great evil, in Roussoou’s mind, became private property. As soon as men had more than his beigbor ambtions and greed formed in the hearts of men and the current system as he aseerted began it’s evolution in order to police and regulate the distureition of wealth.
In Roussou’s mind the rich elite had to maintain control through some means. They lacked the numbers to compete with the lesser poor and thius had to resort to bribery, trickery and subterfuge in order to maintain domianince. They set up a government and imposed their will on others. Represtitive democracy, in Roussoou’s mind was a product of the elite’s attempt tp control the poor by making it seem like they had an option. That is not to say that all government is ba din Rousssou’s opinion, he was a pioneer of the social contract, but Roussoou clearlty has his deifniaitons on hwat was fia rna dnot fair.
Locke by contrast, adopted the view that each man had the right to build and conduc this own private property as he saw fit as long as it did nto interfere with the bussiisus of his beigbor. In other words as long as it harmed no one a person could do as he saw fit. Rousoou saw Private property as the great evil while Locke saw it as the god-given right of men. Locke saw humans has having god-given rights and Rousoou saw rights and being handed out by the state elite in order to control the masses.
Locke’s government is aimed saorund protecting the life, liberty and prpopety of the individual. IT is to regulate laws so that an idnviidual can be free to persue as far as they want in terms of idnidual economic advancement. IF a gvoerment did not accomplish that task, then people had a right o rebell and put a better government in place. Hwoever if the government did respect that then they had to follow the government.
Madison argues tha tit is the govermnts job to regulate wealth because the individual man cannot be entirely trusted to remain ubiased himself.

Hey! I'm Vodh and I'm just coming back to WFB (and to the tabletop games for that matter). I used to play during the 6th edition, although 'play' is a bit of an overstatement because the best I've ever fielded was some 1k points Lizardmen (before that it was a brief rommance with Dark Elves and a bit longer one with Orcs and Goblins). I just sort of jumped from an army to another, never really having one i would commit to hard enough to get a respectable force.

Now a couple of years later, working a part time job on my way to graduating from a uni, I decided to come back and start collecting the army that appealed to me the most out of all those i haven't tried. This time I'm commited to collecting a force that will allow me to actually play all those 2k-2.5k games. And then build up on that ;)

So here I am, hope I'll find my place here ;)

I'm Kubikajir, I've always been on and off with warhammer/40k. Just depends on how many friends I have around that decide to start playing again. I've always been more into converting and painting the models than playing. I'm starting up VC again. I'll be starting a painting log in the next few days.

Hi guys! Crafty here, been playing Undead since I started Warhammer way back when with the Unified Undead book. Haven't played much since 6th edition but I'm getting back into the hobby now. Still fielding my beloved Nechrarch and Lahmian Vampire Counts list. Also working on a new Lahmian Vampire army built around a Khemrian theme.
