Hi there! I'm Maya, and I'm pretty new to the site. I've mostly just been creeping and reading and debating how and when to participate! ^-^;

I'm primarily a modeller and painter rather than a player. Most of the local groups are a bit too hardcore for me, and when I attempted to play I got soundly whupped and met some discouraging remarks. Ah well, I like the painting more anyway.

The armies I've started so far are Chaos (Fantasy and 40K) and Tyranids. I like to focus on Warband sized groups for Fantasy since that lets me add more character to the miniatures. I've been pretty addicted to the idea of a proper undead horde for a long time now, so since I'm finally able to get new miniatures I'm starting to focus on the Vampire Counts. Mildly in love with the 6th edition Army Book and the idea of Swains. Hopefully I'll have something started pretty quick here!

Did I do that right? I hope I did that right... Ah well, if anyone dislikes my introduction I'll just consume your soul and move along. :3 <3

Hello there, long time listener, first time caller here.

My name is Jacob, and along time ago in a galaxy far far away I use to play both Fantasy and 40K religiously. Life became too hectic and I sold off my armies.

Now some friends convinced me to get back into the game, specifically Fantasy, and I decided to start back in with Vampire Counts.

I love the new models and the general feel of the army.
I like both casual and competitive play, as well as the modeling/painting aspects of the game.

Looking forward to diving back into the game!

The influx of new members is still strong on Carpe Noctem. I guess we must've done something right after all, eh? :)

Welcome, all of you. I'm sure you'll find anything that you need to solve your issues or quench your thirst. For blood, obviously. If you have any questions about the forum or pretty much anything else, feel free to contact me or another member of staff!

The difference between the two is quite large: With spears you are attacking in an extra rank, and with a Hand Weapon (HW) you will be able to use the 'Parry' special rule (Due to having shields as well), allowing you a 6+ "Parry Save" which is taken in place of Ward/Regen saves. Except that Skeletons don't have wards or regen, so it's just a benefit for them. (Also this is all found on page 88 of the BRB, aka Big Rule Book) Also I have seen it related by a certain forum goer that Spears are unequivocally worse than HWs always, with the math to support such claims. So if you believe in math that strongly, I guess HWs are the way to go..

Oh, and btw, it's a good idea to get acquainted with the other forums, you'll see more replies/traffic in the respective sub-forums. So ask about tactics in the Teachings of Aborash somewhere.

Hi Everybody! I hope you're all well. I'm a long-time chaos warrior who picked up the new 8th ed vampire book and the 7th ed battalion. I've got 20 zombies, 20 skeletons (as yet unmodeled; can't decide on spears or shields), 10 ghouls and 1 corpse cart. I also picked up the cool new necromancer w/skull in hand. Plans are to use Inv of Neh to bulk up zombies to bog units down while flanking with ghouls and skels. Never really played vampires before. Same shooting phase as chaos I guess. Any suggestions?

Salutations,

I am totally new to Warhammer battle, but familiar to the world having played WFRPG a lot. My friends asked me "money aside which army would I want to play." I not, being a great fool, chose VC. They showed up the next day with the book and the box both 8th edition and said happy birth day.

I have so many questions about the game, and this form that I hope none of you will want to pound a stake through me. My friends have experience playing and I have none so I guess I better find the right place to ask all these questions.

Have a great night,

DM

@turtlezombieclown;
We do have ONE up in the shooting phase; the Banshee. She's a lot of fun, and her range makes Mariah Carey look like an amateur. ;) Zombies are always great tarpits, just keep in mind that you have to have enough on hand to raise above and beyond your starting amount, so unit fillers are KEY!

@Dominus Mortem;
Those are some great friends you have there. I'll be sure to send them my address! xD Ask away (just try and use the forum search to see if the questions you have have been asked/answered before) and I'm sure any one of the hundreds here will happily help you out. I spend most of my time in the Dark Arts areas, discussing painting & modeling, however there are plenty that stick to the rules forums and play theoryhammer all day long. You can get advise on your lists, better compositions for your units, and even tips on how to beat your friends armies!

Welcome, both of you, and enjoy your stay here on the night-side.

Just saying hi. I just recently started my Vampire Counts army. I mostly played Warhammer 40K before, but a long time ago I used to own a High Elf army so I am not completely unfamiliar with Warhammer Fantasy as a whole.

Hi VC was my first army 10 years back have been meaning to register here for eons but now with some time to myself (a rarity) I've successfully signed up. Have been at the Blood Keep but its a little quiet over there at times. Hope to get some tips and give some out.
Have fun guys 'n' gals!

Hi there.

I've recently joined the ranks of the living dead after much consideration. I've wanted to create an undead Bretonnia themed army for awhile now, ever since I saw a white dwarf article about elves and orcs as undead counts-as. However, my brother plays Vampires, so I've tried to avoid having a mirror match-up situation until now.

Hopefully I'll come up with something decent looking at least.

Nice to meet you all!

Greetings,

I have been playing Vampire Counts for a little less than a year and my army consists of the Vampires of Hunger Wood, descendants of Emmanuelle, attempting to restore Templehof to its former glory.

Howdy Rivet! Welcome to CN:thumbsup:

Sounds like a very interesting army. Be sure to post it up in the Unholy Masterpieces forum if it's all up and painted. If it's not then get painting and put up a plog in The Dead Shall Walk;)

It is mostly finished, paint-wise, it still needs the majority of its basing done. I recently took a hiatus from gaming and have only recently returned. To facilitate returning in an interesting way I am doing a sort of escalation league type return. Starting with 500 point games and building myself back up to the 2500 points that my army used to be (I still have all my miniatures and such, just gaining a better understanding on my army at all point levels, not just 2500) and I posted the list for that. I have also posted some preliminary fluff I have written for the army.

Greeting myself here.

My name is Meldon and i´d like refer to myself as Great, cause nomen-omen. Ive been into Warhammer legends (as you call fluff) and mostly 40k a long time. But I hadnt convinced myself to actually start playing for many reasons. Till unforcinately one of my mate went into green skins and persuade one other chap to buy wood elfes and otherone to dust off his Empire. Still i just deny his pressure to buy something. I only response that "nevar" and "if, so Vampires are attracting me". Day after my uncanny open statement, suddenly out of nowhere e-bay auction with incredible low cost half done vampire army (probalby 2300pt but with missings). So this day I was blood-kissed. Other good old boyz dont let yourself away from this new nerdism in our ghetto and go to dwarf and darkelfs. Sooooo Ive just signed myself to money abbys. Hopefully it will entretain mysekf at least :)

PS: Im going to add soda glue snow to my painted models and to my unpainted models i mean include paintingand theming in the winter/ice way.

G'day folks, i'm Spedlord. Used to collect Lizardmen, but found that the drain on my money to build an army was too great. Now i'm a wee bit older with a job that pays, i've decided to start collecting again. After one too many games of Vampire: The Masquerade, I have decided to hand myself over to the forces of darkness, because frankly, using your badass powers to control an army of the dead while you sit in a throne supping on blood sounds badass.

Howdy. I recently returned to tabletop gaming after a friend bought some Wood Elves. I'm a veteran Imperial Guard 40k player and it's going to be interesting playing an army that has one of the weakest shooting phases on the field!

Greetings
I am hooferinsane, collected mainly Bretonnians, painting them rather than playing. Just turning my attention now to the VC battalion box that I have had for a few years. I know Avatars of War do alternative VC models to GW at a similar scale, but can anyone else suggest any other figure manufacturers for VC at the same scale?

Hey all,
I'm Valinash. I'm a new convert to the Vamps. I've been in the hobby for about 8 years, seriously into in since late 7th edition. I've previously been playing High Elves, and on the Ulthuan forum I go by the name of Cython.

I've always been toying with the idea of collecting Vampires as a second army, and now I've finally succumbed!!! :vampire3:

Love the smileys you guys have here, btw. :)

Of course you do, the similes are the actual reason for the forum's existence. What we talk about isn't important, as long as you follow it up with a :tongue:
