here are the first few pics of my Undead horde!


I am going to try to do regular updates on a army for once. Mostly to keep me focused on the task and second so I have a log to look back at by the end.

I will be creating a list that will be around 2700 to 3000pts. This is also a huge change for me as normally I start army's when I have a specific list in mind from the start and build from there. This time however I just cant make up my mind and there are a ton of super cool models I really want to paint for the Vampire range.

I have been planing on starting a vampire army for years. When there last book first came out I jumped at the chance to play them but just never had the funds and people in my area were playing too much 40k for me to really invest in a second Fantasy army as I would not have vary many opponents.

Now However I run a game store and have built a fairly large community of fantasy players to the point that more games of fantasy are played at my store then anything else MUWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

So I am finally going to build this army. And I hope to have most if not all done by the end of April. ( its good to set lofty goals = P )

Do you mean the movement tray?

The white Movement tray is made be me out of Evergreen plastic card. These trays fit the models better then Games workshop ones and cost about 80% less.

You can go into any hobby store. ( for me because I run a Hobby Town its pretty simple to get ) And pick this stuff up.

Just grab a Sheet of plain white card I use 9030 and 9040 for the base and then grab some of the square rod to form the ridges. this will cost you like 3.45 for the card and like 2 bucks for the rods.

Normally I lay down one strip un cut length wise on one side then do one along the with to create a right angle on the card. Then I put all my bases in the formation I want lining them up to the right angle and when they are in place ill glue in the other two sides.

I hope that is what you were asking. If this is something that people are interested in Im happy to take step by step pics with the next unit I build.

Got these built today.

Going to work on the hex wraiths next hopefully make some head way on them.

Tomorrow I am going to glue sand on the bases of the skeletons and maybe if it sets get them primed. But that may happen on Tuesday will have to see how much time I have.


O and Thanks the avatar is the same one I use on every forums I have been using Tank Girl from the time I was 19 lol.

This is not a April fools but a real update.


So I got a lot of work knocked out and got some paint on some of the models. Just because you all were yelling at me for some. I have more work to go yet on everything but am happy with the progress.

I am going to let the skeletons sit for the rest of the week as I want to finish building what I have. Also I think I want to finish the Varghiests up first. Mostly because I want to work on them while I have a clear picture of what I want in my head.

I also got a friend to give me some chaos horses so I am going to build up some mounted lords and the rest of my army should be coming into the store this week so I should be able to finish buying the rest of it. I over bought as I figure I will try and paint as much vampire counts stuff as I can while I am working on my army. This way I can can change the list up freely with painted models. The only thing I think I will want other then the stuff I already have is a Black Coach and grave guard and maybe some Varghulf's. going in that order for what ill buy if I have some extra dollars.


I also managed to get a game in today with my Empire. As I had to send my list in for the up coming GT I will not be taking the Vampire counts = (. So I am trying to practice with them as much as possible before the event and I have a few models left to paint for them before im ready. Even so I fully intend to get all of my vampires built and a good half of them painted before the end of the month. So far im off to a good start I think.

Was able to get half way done with the models last night. Still have a bunch of highlighting to do on them. Going to try and finish that tonight. And then If I do Ill finish flocking the base with the sorta graveyard moss grass that I bought for this army on Friday.

The vargheists looked plenty strange before, but now I see they are going in a right direction I like the gradients and the bluesh scheme, I want to see them finished Good work with the skeletons BTW

Yeah I wanted them to have a stark contrast to what you normally see and to the army as a hole. So that they will draw attention and become sort of center piece's. My goal is to make every unit interesting to look at and something people will really enjoy having across the table from them also to make them stop and notice the army when they are walking around at the events I plan to attend.

Although they are not my center piece they are well on there way to being pretty awesome models that will make people take notice of the overall army.


I am buying the zombies and the rest of my black knights today. So all that I have left for this army to buy is the Wolves. Hopefully they will arrive at some point because they are a fairly important part of my list and one of the models I most wanted to paint.

Finished just need to do a little more basing. I'll take some close ups tomorrow when I head into work and have a better light source.

Also got the last box of black knights I needed and 40 zombies. So I will be on a building binge for the week end as id like to get the rest of my models built.

Aw crap, another plog that gets an army done in a week and makes me feel bad about my decades long attempts to finish my undead. I'll try to be supportive, lol!

How did you do the blue on the vargheists? Looks like spray paint to me, but it's very well-controlled if that's the case. Looks great!

I was just looking at the statue and crypts from the Garden set and thinking "They could make cool unit fillers, I wonder what they would look like?" and then I saw your first pic and realised that they can look pretty awesome!!

Those Vargs are absolutely amazing as well

To do the blue and purple base coats I used my airbrush. And thanks for the feed back im quite happy with the army so far. I just hope I can reach my goal of finishing it this month and making evvery unit interesting to look at.

Finished building my zombies there movement tray and my necromancer.

Still have 3 boxes of hex wraiths / black knights and a terrorghiest to build and my zombie dogs have yet to arrive =\

Ill start basing and painting the zombies this week. and hopefully Ill finish all three unit fillers this week as well.

Necromancer on a 40x40 base? Interesting! Also, clever stuff with those steps and a little bit of scenery there. Also, I agree with Carpe Jugulum about the fillers - cool stuff with them. I think it is funny with them that zombies will be dragging a chapel with them, but it looks awesome nontheless

Sorry for the blurry pics I just grabbed a few shots really fast so I could do a update. I wanted to be done with all the base coats today but I still have a few more to go. Like the basing the warts and muscles and intestines all need to get hit before I can move on. And the eyes I have to decide how I want to do the eyes. But yeah the zombies were the unit I was least excited to do so I am trying to get them finished before doing anything else with the army.

( also the hex wraiths are such a pain in the ass to build that I am stalling and procrastinating finishing them off = P )

I hope to have them finished this week and the Hex wraiths through all the beginning stages as well. will see I want to finish building the hole army first an I have 10 black knights and a terrorghiest left to fully assemble.

And with that the rest of my list is built and playable. I am going to be attempting a game tomorrow to try out my list. Also going to be demoing a game for a beginner at about 1000 pts. So I will get to see vamps at 2500 and at 1000 respectively I am really excited.

I am also going to be finishing the beginning basing on the models I got built this weekend and hopefully priming them if I can find a good batch of white primer. Unfortunately the stuff that was sent to my store by GW was bad so i would have to wait for a week to get it in and I want to get started on these models.

So I am going to more then likely buy some Tamiya primer in the interm. There primer is better but it costs a hell of a lot more and I normally do not like to use it if I can avoid it. But as i do not want to wait I do not have vary many options. I hope to have more painted stuff by the end of the week!
