Hello ppl. I don't have an army yet, but as the thread suggests I'm planning a Necrarchs army in the near future. But since they are more or less a "no go" in the new armybook, I wanted to ask your advice on the subject.
My prob is what the army should consist of. Here is what I think, and I would like your feedback on it preferably before I start building my army.

Any vampires are simple, just go for as much extra magic stuff in the bloodlines bit, perhaps on top of a zombie dragon. That I can do easily. They don't trust other vampires easily, so the rest of the heroes will have to be made from wight's and the odd necromancer, as well as some wraith's.

So I'm thinking zombies, zombies, zombies, zombies. Backed up by one unit of skeletons/graveguard, the first for the estetiks of it (zombies only look so good on the table) and the other for the sheer punch of it.
Some corps charts perhaps as support, and it will go whit the fluff of the Necrarchs as well, collecting corpses both for research and to swell the undead ranks.
Some direwolfs perhaps??

And as many Eterial units I can get into it after that. I have easier to see ghost and wraith's fallowing the Necrarchs then any form of ghouls or some such.
A Mortis engine would be nice as well thou, and I think is something the Necrarchs would use.

So any ideas you have on what should and what should not be in the army? And just to say it I'm going for the fluff first hand here and performance as a close second.
Want to make a 1600pts army (1600 cause its the new 1500pts around here since 8th edition).
Thanks for your feedback :D

So I made a list, not perfect, but I think I would enjoy playing it and still keeping it in theme. So here it is, and my thoughts behind the units.

Vampire thrall: 200pts
Level 2, Masterstrike and Talisman of Preservation.
So the level 2 and the talis is obvious why I took. And the Masterstrike ability is a nice way to sybolise the Necrarchs ability to whitter all they touch by there knowledge of the dark lores. And a nice "reenactment" of the old spell Hand of dust.

Necromancers: 200pts
Two level 2 necromancers to help keep those zombies moving forward.

Zombies: 270pts
Three units of 3*30 whit a frontage of five. Tarpit units, and I get to use some models from other ranges as fillers as well. Nice for converting and doing something other then zombies.

Skeletons: 255pts
One big unit of 40 skeletons, whit full command, spears and the Screaming Banner. A hulk busting unit, and it will look good on the table besides the zombies.

Spirit Host's: 135pts
Three units of spirit hosts to harass the enemy, and hopefully keeping any enemy magic away from me raising more zombies.

Cairn Wraith's: 300pts
6 of em, whit the same mission as the spirit hosts, but more so. And perhaps to stall my opponents big plans for a while. (just wish they still had the scout special rule)

That leaves me whit 40 points I have to spare, maybe some more zombies or...I dont know. You tell me.
Any ideas?

Hello

My hat is off to you for going with a bloodline themed army.

I would drop one spirit host and squeeze in a WK to give your army some more attack power. I'd drop one necro and the level upgrade on the other to get a dispel scroll.
I like the fluff you are using for Master Strike, it's very fitting.

Make it sounds like a Bloodline themed army is rare, I find em commonly around here.

Mind taking a look at this as well?:

So to be different then, I want my Strigoi to be a you-better-deal-whit-him-or-he-will-fuck-you-up type of character. Not the army general, and not something that I expect to win on. Just something to give my opponent and myself a bit of a gamble in the game as it where. I want something that makes me think, "well next time I show you" or to giggle away like a maniac when it works. And I do like the more odd builds then the standard ones.
So heres my build that I would like to try out, keep in mind hes not a close combat character hunter, but is supposed to pose a threat to any smaller units on the board. Such as skirmishers, bow/gun units, fast cavalry and so on:

Strigoi vampire:
Red fury
Flying Horror
Fencers Blades
Talisman of Preservation
Potion of strength

And heres why:
Red Fury: well I want him to be able to do allot of hits against smaller units, and elected red fury over lets say Sword of Bloodshed, as I wanted another weapon.

Flying Horror: Who don't like the ability to fly, be honest. Making him able to move as he pleases over the field, and hopefully take on anyone that I feel/want must die. Sides its fun flying.

Fencers Blades: So heres why, whit units like elves, assassins, or anything that might hit him first (or later as a enemy usually have the audacity to fight back) the extra Weapon Skill of 10, will cause most rank and file models to have to roll a 6, and many chars to by the way. And whit the Talisman, he will survive it. And it gives me an extra attack as well them being paired weapons.

Talisman of Preservation: I expect all to go "Why you idiot, its so bad" perhaps, but as you might suggest I should go whit the Dragonbane Gem. BUT it only gives me a 2+ ward save against flaming attacks, and how many times is that useful??? Not much if you ask my opinion. And YES it do take away my 5+ regen save, but I gain a constant 4+ ward save, and any wounds I loose I can get back by the hunger rule or the Lore of the Vampires magic attribute.

Potion of Strength: For that moment when you do come across a enemy char that just have to die or that Anvil of Doom that keeps messing up your magic (blasted things) or any monstrosities that might be in your way.

So what do you think?

Rank and file would need 5's to hit, actually, not 6's on the SGK.

The build is interesting and I'm a fan of trying different things. You may encounter some trouble with armies that can bestow ward saves on their units (high elves, empire, etc.) so the other trickster's shard might be something you'd be interested in trying.

Hm did not think of the wardsave of others, but in my small experience not many core troops have one less they make one whit magic. So I don't think that will be a problem.
Well....unless they go whit the hand weapon shield combo that is. But thats mostly rank and file units, not the target for my vampire.

I have always loved the necraches and i am trying to make a list that is competative and necrach. i think you can pretty much use anything provided you convert for it. Seen as they love experiments and monsters you can make substitutes. i converted zombie orgres to be crypt horrors. any weird looking monster can be a vargulf.
I even have ghouls (tho you may think thats cheating) by doing arm/leg/head swaps to make them look more experimented on. Been trying to think of a monster conversion for the terrorgheist, using a zombie dragon maybe?
anyway good luck

I may have an idea for your Terrorgheist~
Cut and file down both assembled head and stick them together to make a double headed Terrorgheistdragonthing.
I trust the idea might sound a little weird to begin with, and might have trouble fitting it right and proper, but as far as I imagine it in my head, it could look pretty good~
Anyway, thought I might contribute to your Necrarchs and their Experiments theme. :3
