I hate that your posts are always vids. I read the forum at work so I can't sit down and watch them. Bummer, because I'm usually interested in your thread topics. : (

I'll post some text going forward. Sometimes its just faster to put up the vid, but I understand :)

there were some pictures of the current, old, malekith model on the new WD cover....

And here i thought we'd get a dragon rider caledor/malekith/someone else kit ala mortarchs

Apparently there are no new models to accompany the khaine book, if you want the avatar your stuck with the GW one or forge worlds. Can anyone clarify if the preorder is this Friday?

I can just see it now. Nagash is going to be defeated again and everything will return to normal.

Please don't let it be true.

All wizards loremaster? So vamps with forbidden lore can get exactly the spell they are looking for. I see this being a big thing.

Whilst I agree Forbidden Vamp definitely benefits from this, it makes wizards in low point games insanely powerful for their price.

I agree that the lack of stuff to buy sucks. They have just announced that they will be releasing a load of stuff in soft cover though. I guess this might not mean a new run of cards but at least we can all get copies of the books - hopefully cheaper too!

Every wizard being Loremaster is interesting. I don't think this will actually result in much change, since the ratio of power to dispell dice should remain similar, so a similar number of spells should be getting off. It makes magic more consistent, which can only be a good thing, but at the same time it means a roll from the end of the bell curve can result in a truly devastating magic phase. Since our army relies so much on magic, this can only be a good thing for us. More dice means a move average distribution, and loremaster means we have access to any and all spells we need. Multiple VHDM's per turn? Yes please! We're much less likely to get screwed by a bad magic phase with these changes.

Frankly, I think this will result in more lower level wizards. Paying an extra 135 points for +3 to cast seems a bit too expensive for me, especially when you don't need extra spell slots to try and get the spell you want.

But he does have to lose otherwise the whole world would be undead...

I rather suspect that Nagash will be elevated, perhaps against his will, into the role of the god of undeath.

Has anyone confirmed if this will be a game-wide change like the Lord and Hero allowances, or is it restricted to End Times games only? And what's the definition of an End Times game?

+3 to cast is the same as rolling average on another die, when your casting up to 4 spells with it that is roughly equal to adding 4 dice to your dice pool.

on that note. Even with lore master the low level wizards get less casts per turn. Which is fine if you have a silly number of wizards to make up for it.

I think a level four and a level 2 will still be the average number of wizards used. It just means not bringing the 4 won't kill you.

This is true. But previously you were paying 35 points per level, and each level gave you another spell and a further +1 to cast and dispell. Now you still pay 35 points per level and you only get the +1. It makes those extra magic levels less valuable.

How do you figure? There's no limit on the number of spells a wizard can cast. A level one Loremaster can still cast seven spells a turn if he has enough dice.

It made sense in my head but you are right, there is no limit.

So yes I suppose +1 to cast just became a little more expensive. Yet still worth it in my opinion. Previously the magic levels were so worth it you NEEDED a level 4 in 8th to be competitive, so making the levels less worth it in theory is GW's way of fixing that.

a) This makes the Mortis Engine Blasphemous Tome infantry centre supported by ~3 lvl1 Necromancers a much powerful prospect. Essentially x3 Lvl3s ALL with Loremaster. Potentially 3x bubble Vanhels, 24" across the board in one turn! Not to mention the absurd healing level of x3 Invocations.

b) x2 (reasonably, on 4d6 dice, a third one would be pushing it) Curse of Years? I believe it stacks yes? First magic phase, killing on 5+, second magic phase killing on 3+, requires TWO dispells to get rid of both of them. Enemy hordes certainly look a lot more manageable now we KNOW we can count on having them in our playbook with Loremaster.

c) Also makes the Forbidden Vamp much more sexy. Loremaster Light anybody?

d) With multiple Necros and Vamps having Vanhels, Black Book of Arkhan is now no longer necessary leaving 25pts to be spent on something else. Cursed Book isn't necessary as you can guarantee all spells with a Death Necro and Shadow Vamp. 35pts to spend on something else. 25+35pts? Oh look, that's 60pts, practically ANOTHER naked necro you could field.

e) With the amount of Vanhels going on, does this now make the Corpse Cart more viable? With the amount of magic now flying around, does the Balefire upgrade become more of a necessity?

f) Supermagic Vamp build (Master of the Dark Arts, Black Periapt) just became much more viable/powerful/useful as well I think (especially with 50% lords, you could now afford to field a supermagic Vamp AND a blender). Alternatively, you might say less important as with 4d6, having a reroll on your powerdice isn't as necessary.

g) This also makes Heinrich and Count Mannfred less impressive for the Loremaster skill.

h) HOWEVER... does this mean that ACTUALLY, the new Mortarchs are kind of getting screwed over? With Lvl4, Mannfred can choose four spells in any combination from Death, Vampire and Shadow... I assume he DOESN'T get loremaster in EACH of those disciplines? If he did, you would assume the same would apply for Nagash, which makes his Nine Books item completely irrelevant...

That's a good question. How does Loremaster work with wizards that can select spells from multiple lores? Having Loremaster Death, Undeath, Vampire and Nehekara would be pretty sweet.

From my limited understanding of the third (End Times) book, the changes to the magic system / phase ONLY apply to the specific campaign missions which are focused on the battles taking place on Ulthuan, not every game of WHFB.

It does not seem to be a general game-wide change like the adjustment of the percentages for Lords / Heroes, or the availability of the Lore of Undeath to any wizard able to select BRB lores.

But we'll know for sure in a week or so ...

IF these changes really affect WHFB in its entirety, I'll be switching back to 40k, like I switched to Fantasy four / five years ago ...
'cause then they'd have messed up WHFB for sure.
