Gregor Hearthwell removed his mask, some sort of metallic helmet face, as he stared at the floor.
"Burning the house down would not necessarily kill all the vampires. On average one in five people survive a house fire, and the probability that a well armoured and insulated person does so is one in two."
"Of course the main problem with that solution is that it gives a very high proportion of innocent deaths. Might I suggest instead that we do some quick calculations that might illuminate our chances given different methods?"
He took a crumpled piece of paper from a pocket in his tweed jacket, checked a small amulet, then began scribbling equations on the paper.

Anita had been listening for a while, and finally she deigned to answer a earlier question,

"Firstly you will address my as Lady Jacqueoff. Those who do not will find themselves flogged once these fiasco has been concluded, assuming your are alive of course." The stony glare of her gaze made it clear this was no jest.

"As for how I know that it was not one of my servants...." she gestured at one of the soldiers who pulled up the right arm of his tunic to reveal a smokey grey tattoo, "an enchanted sigil that all those in my employ must take. It has many purposes, one being that no creature of the night may become one of my staff.

Sadly the process takes too long and certain ingredients I currently do not have, hence the necessary situation."

Sigmund sheathed his blade and sneered at Lucien "Vampire's are inhuman, not stupid, I doubt they would appear before us covered in blood."

The knight give a cursory glance at the guests who removed their masks, he himself not having one. Walking over to the nearby table he lifted the wine glass he had been drinking from beforehand and threw the remainder of his wine into a flower pot.

"I can't see what drinking will solve, except to slow our reactions if the beast strikes again." the knight said.

A thoughtful expression crossed the knight's face.
"Lady Jacqueoff, do you have any holy symbols of faith? Such things could help reveal the vampire's existence. Pure silver or any blessed items you may have could be helpful too."

Mihael suppressed a sigh.

"The Tattoo proves nothing sadly Lady Jaqueoff, you could just be lying after all. However I stand by the point that, if you or your staff were vampiric, then why not slaughter us all now? No reason to keep us alive, petentially able to kill you after all. Merely the fact this has never happened to you before proves the person who is our enemy is new to this house. If he were acquainted with it, he would find a much more discreet place to dispose of people."

He glanced irritably at those speaking to him while he chucked another morsel into his mouth, sitting cross legged.

"Yes I'm young, but I'm confident I can survive this all we need is.." he snapped a large portion of chocolate off and studied it. "Evidence..."

"The boy is of course right." Sigmund said with a shake of his head "I highly doubt the Lady or her staff are vampires."

He shrugged "There would be easier ways for them to feed that to get locked up with all of us. Only one of us, the guests, would not have known about her protective spells."

Rosa perked up a little, despite the fact she was now practically swimming in alcohol. From what she could make out, people were getting all serious about something. Even in the depths of her drunken stupor, Rosa could at least realise something was awry, especially when Serethia tried to prise the whiskey bottle out of Rosa's hands.

"You'll *hic* fill her up for me?" she burbled, "Well, aren't you just a lovely... donkey," managed Rosa, leaning forward and giving the shoulder of the other woman's red dress a slobbery, impassioned kiss. "Tastes like carrots too!" cried out Rosa, rocking backward before struggling to her feet.

She tottered towards the grim-faced Sir Muller. She thrust out an arm, aiming for the man's shoulder, but unfortunately instead finding her way around the other side of his waist. "So whas all... the fuss abou', fuss-man?" she began, leaning heavily as the floor became all wobbly. Rosa noticed Anita on the staircase, and the crossbow standing to beside her. "Hey, loo' at them..." giggled Rosa, "They's got... big... wooden... rabbits..." What had previously been heavily leaning soon converted into a full collapse, and unless the knight acted Rosa would fall bodily to the floor at his feet.

Mihael held his face is in his hands, still stubbornly not moving from his spot on the table surrounded by his miniature pile of delicacies.

"And if this was some trick of a monster then she would need to test all her tricks and cover up stories worked before putting so much trust in them that every single one of us would believe this story she tells us?

Yet again, I repeat, the simple fact nothing of the sort has never happened in this household at any time proves so. Vampires always leave a trail of "accidental deaths" with them, no one has died here other than old age and illness in decades. No vampire can last that long."

Mihael rolled his eyes exasperatingly. "Are we all clear now so we can focus on the task at hand? Or will I have to work alone."

He chewed irritably on a morsel, studying the reactions of those before him, hunched over.

And I would also like to point out to you that Vladimir von Carstein deceived the noble houses for years. He did not merely take over Sylvania and launch a premature attack on our beloved Empire!
"And our beloved host, Anita. If you have been so foolish as to allow a vampire into your ball or staff, I would think that a flogging is the least of our worries. Having said that, try it on me and you will be ousted from Court and lose everything you own. As I'm sure you know, the Venziia family is well thought of in Altdorf; we have a lot of power!"

With a sigh, the nobleman sunk even deeper into his chair, clearly wishing he was somewhere else.

"Templar of Myrmidia, Order of the Blazing Sun my Lady." he said with a slight bow to the host in response as he reached up to his collar and pulled out the Amulet of the war Goddess that is hanging around his neck.

Turning his attention to Seretia. "Perhaps, but I would expect the cowardly undead to be too concerned with their own existence to play such a dangerous game."

Sigmund stared in what appeared to be disgust, leaning away from Rosa, but he still caught the woman when she appeared to fall.

Holding the woman upright easily he frowned "Is there anywhere we can put the...unsteady lady here until she feels better?" he asked with a sigh.

"I thought about that ages ago, everyone here has an exposed neck, and no one here has any puncture marks, neither does anyone look ill or faint. So either we have a master vampire or someone who has taken a decade or so for their swains to appear healthy. Not only is that extremely unlikely but if it is the case then we're all dead anyway and there is nothing we can do.

So.. as I said, lets work off the assumption that it is a guest that is a vampire, any other possibility is either impossible, implausible or has no escape from and therefore we need not dwell on it."

Halfway through a mouthful of chocolate, Michael spoke half unintelligibly.

"You could always stick her on the table, its plenty big enough."

Obadiah had made no movements as the drama unfolded before him, but had moved away from the accusations being flung around, mainly at the host, removed his mask and had started looking anew at the faces of people around him with a more searching expression.

If our host is lying about the enchanted sigil, then there is very low chance any of us will survive, and not much point trying to. We have to assume it is one of us. As I expect we all value our own lives, our best course of action is working together and efficiently to discover the vampire. They must have some signs about them - do they bleed like normal men? He pulled out a blade. If not, there is a simple test...

"Stick her in the privy through there; at least then if she does decide to ... Reproduce what she has consumed, she'll have somewhere to put it ..." He turned his head and cocked it to look at Obadiah around the wingback chair he was in, eyebrow still raised.

"Please, do not tell me that you mean to go around cutting all of us? We, in the Empire, are not quite so barbaric. After all, look at my own flawless skin! I would much rather hold the Amulet possessed by the good Ser Knight as a way to prove my innocence in this ... Ghastly matter. There is nothing to say that they bleed any different than us, especially once they have fed!" He looked pointedly at the dead man still on the floor. "When will the body be removed?"

Mihael brushed his hair out of the way to reveal the left half of his face being covered in scar tissue.

"Scars are memories and reminders of our frailty, there is nothing wrong about them in the slightest." he muttered with a dark tone.

Lightening up immediately he chuckled at the absurd suggestion.

"Most likely vampires still bleed, or they'd be terrible at blending into society wouldn't they?"

Gregor finished his rough calculations.
"Dammit, there are too many unknown variables. How many guests, the number of vampires, the co-operation between them, external factors..." he muttered, before putting the paper in his pocket.

He got up from the table and called out to the host.
"Might I suggest a statistically probable method of vampiric elimination? I confess that calculus is not my strong point, but I believe that given a voting system, the vampires might be eliminated on the condition that the ratio of innocents to vampires is weighted considerably. It is less than a satisfactory method resulting in a number of innocent casualties, but unless you have any other methods of detection the observation and long-term analysis of the situation by your ladyship may prove to be the deciding factor."

He turned to look at the academic, tweed-encased human as he walked. "I would like to know why you presume there is more than creature amongst us; the evidence so far only points to there being one. Is it merely an assumption there is but one of them, or indicative you know more than you should?" Antonio's eyes narrowed slightly, now suspicious, although he kept to his pacing, his cane tap, tap, tapping in a steady rhythm.

Sigmund nodded at Antonio and strode off to the privy with Rosa before returning alone.

"I'm sure she'll be fine in there although our lovely hostess might want to have a few guards bring her to a room when...if we retire for the night."

Turning to Antonio he shrugged "Coincidental? I'm afraid I do not understand your meaning your Lord."

He smiled sadly "I regret to say that, whilst I have faced the undead in battle with my brethren it is not our speciality. We are masters of battlefield tactics often acting as military advisers."

Flynn felt a chill as he listened to the rather bookish looking man give his view on the situation.

"You can't...seriously be suggesting we just kill near randomly and hope we kill a vampire. I don't need your calculus to know that a fair number of us will probably die that way. I came here to have a good time and I'm not going to die because some people panicked and started stabbing eachother with wooden stakes."
